  1. I love it when a product works well. Griffin 1-55202-x, Stant 16# cap, 100 F and running right in the middle of the guage. 1.25 dual row. I've never boiled over, but if you are really pushing it on a hot day, larger would be better.
  2. Running rich usually makes the plugs a sooty black. If they are just a little dark you are probably in the ballpark. Holley stock jetting are darn close at or around sea level. reduce 1 jet/ 2000' gain is the rule of thumb. Also, for every 35 degree drop in temp using 70 degree benchmark, jet up a number. So if you are running around 100 F, like we are in the summer you probably can go another jet leaner. (our track temps were 144 the other evening, bleh!) Nothing wrong with trying to jet a couple of numbers down on the primary side. When you feel the engine (lean) surging at part throttle cruise, then go up a number. Secondary side, about the only sure way is with a/f guage or best mph in 1/4. Track access is great for tuning, I picked up 2 mph with secondary jetting and 1 on the primary. Big difference in wheel hp. For a standard trans, a 6.5 is a great universal PV, thats why they come in so many dbl pumprs, Automatic with low stall require more tuning, but always a number or two lower than vacuum at idle in gear. You can seat of pants tune a Holley, to acceptable levels, but remeber rich carb might = fouled plug, but too lean might cost an engine.
  3. Yeah! 31 runs down the 1/4 and a few wheelie launches on the back roads.
  4. I'm curious, with 4000+ members how many miles annually do you drive your Hybrid Z? Daily transportation? Just track days? Shows? I usually add up about 500-1000 miles/year. I decided to get out more this year, car meets, holidays, drags etc. Gas prices have had an impact, but still consider it woth the expense. I expect around 2K by winter when it gets put away.
  5. Leave the Dynos for tuning. Unless your goal is to just have your Z sit on a dyno and spit out numbers that are hopefully higher than the next guy, don't make any comparisons after that. Many of the online calculators for basing whp from timeslip mph are also exagerated and vary by 25%. Too much emphasis on a hp number. Like what has been stated, a great way to compare what kind of power you are putting down is the mph from a timeslip.
  6. Here's a N/A LS I've been following from a CO board. This traction limited TA is running the same time as my nearly 1000 lb lighter 383 Z! I'd love to have it in my engine bay. 7. Wow, I would have expected the hp peak lower rpm with the 108 cam, but that's a lot of cfm to get moving. wow! Really cool to see that out of a 3.75 crank. Sign me up!
  8. SB, Where have you been all summer?? How's the TT coming? We need an upadate!
  9. You go to the Supra sites and there are only Supras in there data base, SY/Tys, Vettes, etc. ditto. I'm the last to cry purist, but we don't have a non-Z forum yet....Since we engineer our Zs for the purpose of performance improvement here, listing another make is irrelevant. Just thought a Z site should feature Zs. Sounds like a hell of a ride, but unless I'm reading it wrong an '85 uglystang is probably not referring to a Z. If the timeslip data base is open to any and all of our toys than that's cool and I'll get off my soap box.
  10. and unless you are single and wealthy, depends on work, understanding wives/ girlfriends, family...and you don't want to use the T5 out of a s-10, can't believe "search" didn't come up with the numerous posts about the s10's wrong gear ratios and low power levels.
  11. No offense to PnyPwr or any other members who indulge in other makes, but since this is Hybrid "Z", shouldn't we limit our slips to Zs only? There are plenty of other sites to brag about your Mustang, Camaro, Motorcycle etc. I'd like to see a column for the date of the run as well.
  12. Well stated, Bartman! My (old) HybridZ decal is also proudly displayed on the rear window. Too many opinions to do a single HybridZ sponsored car. autoX, drag, road? 8 seconds at a time or all day endurance? Personally, I would find little satisfaction in just hearing about the car in Florida or California and never laying a wrench to it or getting behind the wheel. This shouldn't stop a group of you from doing your own "team" car.
  13. Heads up racing better than pinks. Pinks doesn't give credit for your ability to build a high output motor. It doesn't matter if the car has a TT nitrous V8 or a 3 hp lawnmower motor, just if you are good at sandbagging, then negotiating lengths. Not even timers to prove your power. They all look pretty slow on TV. Bah!
  14. Good episode..it had a lot of heart and soul. Looking forward to finally letting these guys cut loose and hearing the whole story.
  15. Old fashioned is okay, but not for cars with 02 sensors, of course.
  16. Come on guys, quit relying on old links and info! Grumpy I see this posted all over the web...with the old prices. Using Toluene and Xylene at the current $13-15 gallon is NOT a bargin! Real race gas is a better buy and you don't have to risk your health and engine.
  17. Nothing compares to the first time Congratulations!
  18. I know what you're saying. 11 years ago, wife pregnant, my Z had to find a new temporary home due to the "Gas Smell" Usually the complaint came middle of the night, in the bedroom, upstairs far from the garage. Months later, finally found a small seepage by the pump, not enough to drip. How she could smell that through a garage wall, across the house is beyond me. When they drive the family car they can't smell the emergency brake, clutch, or tranny burning, but one molecule of hydrocarbon from the Z and look out! Good luck, in the meantime you might hang those little pine tree thingies all over the garage.
  19. Rotate the engine over a little by hand while pushing them together. Usually its just a little misalignment. Under the car I've even bumped it a couple of clicks with the starter and then had them slide together.
  20. ...anyone remember Ron Jone's friend with the 4.3 8 second Miata? I believe it was a spare race motor, bought at auction, 8000+ rpm. Got greedy w/ nitrous and couldn't find a replacement piston. My old 4.3 17" to radiator! 49/51:
  21. Sounds NNNNNNNNnasty! So much for sneaking home!!
  22. I've been using onlinemetals for a few years now...see avatar lol. Pricey, yes, but the service and materials so far have been great.
  23. Pete, it sounds like you've been through hell and back. Not giving enough pain medication is plain cruel. My wife works on a rehab floor where the belief and proof for years has been max pain managment promotes quicker healing. Hope this is the last you have to see of that place and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Take it easy.
  24. Better yet look at this. http://www.syty.net/forums/timeslips.php? Look at some of the weights of these lead bricks, then imagine that power in a lightweight Z. Sure you can go fast with a 4.3. If your wallet is dictating the build, the advice is sound from the other members. Buick is the way to go and having a member with experience like Scottie is priceless. If your heart is set on a Chevy then don't give a rat's *** what everyone says and go that way.
