  1. Yep, I was there too. It was a great turnout, only it would have been nice to have a bigger collection from the HybridZ stable, but I think that next year we will have a huge showing. A bunch of us met afterwards for a couple of drinks, an d all in all it was a nice day. I think that next year we need to have our (HybridZ) colective SH!T together so that we can have a formidable showing. Tim
  2. Dude, Hot Rods and girls go together like PB&J. I don't have any probs with it at all, but then again, I really don't give a hoot if anyone take me seriously....they will when I stand on the loud pedal!! BTW, this isn't really a topic for this section, this should be reserved for tech. stuff (please don't take this as preaching). Tim
  3. Good point, and Bowtie Overdrives has a conversion that uses a TV cable to operate the tranny which solves the computer problem.Tim
  4. Mate the 400 with the 350 and have a 383 baby. Tim
  5. Jim,when you can pick up a Camaro rad. with 2 fingers, and need both hands (with help from Arnold Swartzenegger) to pick up even a 2 core Z rad., the difference is mindblowing. Having all that weight hanging off the front of the car (in the worst possible place for decent weight distribution), the al. radiators make sense and unless you really have scrape up $$ for the conversion, is worth the expense. BTW, I picked up my Camaro radiator for 25 bucks!! Tim
  6. Dude I go through VV all the time on the way to Newberry Springs and points East. Tim
  7. In my opinion, I have nothing against the import crowd, but 'ricers' are a different story altogether! It does not follow that if you have an import car you're a ricer, but if you plaster it with 15lbs worth of stickers, 100lbs worth of fiberglass that has apparently no function, and drop the suspension to the ground and run the black steel 13inch rims......then you deserve to be made fun of. I for one, have driven and 'hotrodded' 4 cylinder front wheel drive cars, and for the record I have the utmost admiration for the guys who can get those little engines to run 13s and quicker, but lets be serious, a ricer (by the true definition), is not a true performance (speed or handling) enthusiast...let me stop ranting now, I'm sure you get my drift. Tim
  8. They got a bad rep. for overheating. If they are set up right and with the correct cooling system, they are fine. You can also drill and tap the block between the middle two cylinders on each side to cool the hot spots (plumb in extra coolant lines.) Also some of the bad press came from many people putting the heads from 350 on 400 blocks and not drilling the steam holes in the head/head gasket. Where in so cal are you? Tim
  9. Yup, Get the crank from the 400 ground to match the 350 journal size, use the 400 damper and flywheel (externally balanced:350 is internally balanced). Tim
  10. Speaking of 1G RX7, I've driven a 1000hp (FW) 4.3 liter V6 TT RX7(Lingenfelter)...lots O fun. Tim
  11. I also replaced my floors with thicker gauge sheetmetal and put in 1x3 rectangular tubing front to back. If nothing else, I can at least jack up the car without wondering if the jack is going to end up going through the floors . With the sub-frame connectors and the 8 point cage, the chassis is PLENTY stiff, I will wait to see if strut brace are even necessary later. Tim
  12. Yeah, Lone...pricey to be sure! With all the bells and whistles $2400!! , and I'm sure that with you boyish good looks and dashing personality, you would have no problems snatching up a movie star Tim
  13. Mike, not sure on the model, but do a search on the net for autospecialty. They are high performance brake manufacturers that Summit carries. I believe that they are wholesale (dealer) only, but the search will show some places that carry their parts. Tim
  14. Lone,When I originally put my V8 in for the first trial fit, I had mistakenly put the spacers on the wrong side. I make the motor sit at a wierd angle, so that the carb is not at all level, so I don't think that would work well. Tim
  15. Not an issue....just about any (even relatively low hp) V8 will kill the imports. The MPFI will meter the fuel more precisely. Tim
  16. That is a good idea. I recently picked up a LT1 and T56 for 1400 bucks. There are a miriad of things you can do (fairly inexpensively) to get them up to 400hp.Tim
  17. Check it out, the possibilities are endless. It is designed for stationary sources mainly I think, but it has the capability to datalog, so stick the sensors in your exhaust and drive to work, then drop the data on your desktop and see how the engine performed in real world driving!! ITX Tim
  18. Mike: Just a thought...why not bring the stuff with you to CA and have SCAT do the work for you. They are very close by to where you will be staying. Their work is excellent. Let me know if you need any help setting it up. Tim Others: Check out the latest issue of CarCraft. The cover story is a 500hp sbc for 4800 bucks (headers and othe misc. stuff not included). Might be worth a read. Tim
  19. Rewire the stereo on a completely different circuit. That should do it! Tim
  20. Depending on how deep you want to get into it, don't spend any money on the inline 6 if you want real, useable, reliable horsepower. Save your money and buy a LT1, T56 (or 4L60E). V8 is the way to go. I know many people have poured $$ into the OEM engine only to yank it for a 'real' monster. Tim
  21. Things to consider: Doing it yourself: Price of machining Price of individual parts Time/hassle of putting everything together Availability of appropriate tools *sense of accomplishment of building yourself *knowing it's done right (as long as you know what you're doing) *Choosing the parts yourself Crate engine: usually ends up cheaper comes with warrantee quicker (drop in, set timing and go) built correctly with proper tolerances (if from a reputable builder) *may not have the parts/build type you want exactly (compression/cam etc) *be careful to include the price of parts not included (headers, water pump, carb, distributor etc) HTH Tim BTW...I have always built my own V8s, but with the price of crate engines dropping all the time (kinda like new technology does), the next one I do will be a GMPP crate.
  22. Maybe a bad earth or short at the tail lights? Tim
  23. On the other hand, a big 4 pot caliper and fat a$$ vented rotor just looks plain COOL! Tim
