  1. Ron, BTW...did you ever receive the package? Tim
  2. Very cool man! Hey I have a heater knob if you are missing one Tim
  3. LSZee, Sorry, I haven't finnished it completely yet. I will be posting pictures when I have. No rewiring is necessary because I am using the stock lights (at least for now.) Tim
  4. Although it is far from complete....have a look at what I did, it's a completely new rear panel. Pics on my site. Uses (for now), the stock lights Tim
  5. Danno, Yeah I just picked it up from the newstand because of the articles. I was a bit dissapointed in the Malibu swap one though, very brief. But the other FI articles are very good. The list/comparo of all the top aftermarket FI kits was good. Tim
  6. Don't forget the sound laws. Most places set it at 90 decibells (sp). Tim
  7. If it's truely just the shell, you and a buddy caould just pick it up and put it on the trailer. The shell is very light with everything removed. Tim
  8. S&W has a kit for 8 and 12 point cages. Do a quick search on the topic and you will find tons of info. This has been discussed at length. Sorry I can't remember the link to S&W and I'm not on my computer (out of town), but do a search and you will find it. I used the 8 point kit...have pictures on my site if you're interested. Many others here have used it too. Tim
  9. Greimann, That is my concern. I don't want to get sucked into getting smogged on a regular basis. If that is the case then I will just yank all the smog crap off this 94 LT1 and do the conversion without telling DMV. If it's a one time affair, then I will leave all the smog stuff on, get it certified, then yank it all off. My other concern is the fuel evaporative emissions check. I am running a fuel cell. I will most likely fabricate an aluminum 'tank' with activated carbon to vent the cell to, which will probably be adequate to pass smog, but I don't know if the filler opening on the fuel cell is going to be of the correct design to allow the Phase II vapor recovery system on the fuel dispenser to function correctly (read:capture 95% of the fugitive emissions during a fillup), which is the CARB standard for a phase II VRS. I think I may just go and talk to a couple of reputable smog testing stations to get the lowdown, failing any reliable info there, I will phone my contact at CARB for the final word. Worst comes to worst, I will just do the conversion and say to hell with the State. (only problem there is the fines that can be levied are as much as $1000 PER DAY of violation, and that's only the State...the Feds are worse!!) Sorry to ramble..... Tim
  10. Greimann, Thanks for the info. Did they only do a visual check of the engine bay, or did they also check the fuel tank (evaporative stuff). Also, I understand that since yours is a 79, you are required to have your car checked every two years anyway. What is of particular interest is if that requirement would carry over to the pre-74 vehicles after they are certified. Tim
  11. Greimann, Please expand...I've never had to smog any of my vehicles. What exactly did the process involve... details PLEEEEZE! Tim
  12. Just wanted to get an idea of how many of you guys (particularly CA residents with pre-74 car) have actually gone through the legal way of registering you hybrid (ie. told DMV about the engine swap and then gone to a referee station). Or are you guys just running around with the DMV (and CARB) thinking you still have a I-6). Tim
  13. Everything from behind the Cat rearward is not regulated by EPA, so you can do what you want to it, that's why 'Cat-Back' systems have become so popular. Tim
  14. Lots of heat!! If you don't have one, go to Home Depot and get a propane or MAPP gas bottle and nozzle and heat it up. That should break the rust. Tim
  15. Thanks for the info Danno! Next question (or actually a recommendation): What to do with the harness? Painless has a harness for $600 (ouch) (I think we need a graemlin showing it taking it up the _ _ _)!! or can get my existing factory harness 'rewired' to be stand alone for $395. Is there anyway that I can rewire the harness myself, it can't be that hard, although probable time consuming! Grumpy posted a link to a site (thanks a bunch for all the links Grumpy) that shows how to DIY a harness, but it only applies to pre-LT1 FI engines. . Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks, Tim
  16. I have a 5 speed in my daily driver with the original '73 console with no problems. Tim

    R230 Qs...

Mike, Here is a comparison pic between the R230 and the R180, hope it helps: Tim
  18. What can I do for pulley routing on the LT1 when I take off the power steering and AC pumps. All I will have is the crank Pulley diving the alternator. So what belt and routing system without spending a ton of $$$. Thanks, Tim
  19. Can any of you guys recommend a good book (or web site) that provides good basic and advanced information/tutorial on fuel injection/computer controls, particularly LT1 (OBD1) engines. I will be picking up such an engine on Saturday (as posted in the Chev V8 section), and will also probably be getting the LT1 Edit software. Idon't want to start 'jacking' with the computer without a good understanding of what I'm doing. I have always shyed away from fuel injected engines because of my lack of basic understanding, but now I'm jumping in with both feet. From what I understand, some reprogramming is necessay because of the 'deletion' of certain functions in the conversion which will confuse the computer. I also understand that I can either send the computer in or send the basic prgram to 'Andrew" electronically to be changed for a service fee, but I figure that it would be more effective to put that $$ towards buying the software so that I have flexibilty to make changes later. Thanks, Tim
  20. The lead will definitely foul the O2 sensor. You will have to get a bypass wiring harness to fool the computer into thinking that there is a sensor there. This is a major problem with 'grey market' imports of cars from the USA to countries with leaded gas. Tim
  21. Bet he was too busy soiling his undies to remember he had a 'chute!! Tim
  22. Gotta Be TT . $600 would be a bit pricey for me !, but maybe if there's enough interest the price can come down quite a bit? I'm definitely game....the smaller turbos are more available in the JYs too.....even if it's just for good cores. Tim BTW, I deleted the image cause it created a horizontal scroll which bugs the crap outta me!
  23. I bought one.It works as advertised. Well worth it. Just pop over to the parts store and pick up a tube, otherwise in a pinch, vaseline will work.Tim
