  1. Wondering what hp a good budget race L28 engine should put out and what would have to be done to get it. By 'budget' I mean an engine with basically stock internals except the pistons, by 'race' I refer to an engine with good mid range torque and reasonable durability. A list of mods and accessories would be useful, dyno sheets always welcome of course.
  2. The Diamond wheels look tough in a stockcar sort of way, those red centered ones Simmons? There is heaps of info around here on modding the body work to fit flares, should look great when its done.
  3. The common abbreviated way to describe a hybrid RB is to tag it according to the block/head combination. For example a RB30 block with a RB25DE head called a RB30/25DE. Just that I've seen some people go into full detail describing their hybrid when its simpler to do as above. Anyway, just thought it may help.
  4. VG30DE/TT flywheel bolts are M10 fine thread. I had to buy a set from Nissan, they are expensive and from memory, thats from more than a year ago, ~30mm long. Alternatively, what do Fidanza say?
  5. Sorry can't help but you don't need me to tell you that the fit and length of such bolts is critical. ARP may not do them anyway, the (Nissan) ones for the VG30DET looked to have a special fine thread.
  6. Yeh its quite obvious what has been done, which is a pity because otherwise it looks great. The transition between original and mod needs smoothing/blending out.
  7. Looks OK to me, certainly a big improvement over stock.
  8. Just look at the racing development of the S30 and you will see why I made that statement, keeping in mind that the early spoilers were quite modest by modern standards yet they worked. Autospeed does some good stuff but I'd be careful about any general conclusions, aero is very much about each individual cars body design and shape.
  9. One problem now is the value of the AU dollar, aka, pacific peso. Its down against most others eg not so long ago it was ~95c against the greenback, now its ~65c. Makes no sense to me but there it is, purchases from the US on hold
  10. There are a few people doing this sort of thing in AU for the local market, some of them sponsor a forum and in return get their own advertising sub site on the forum. Seems to work OK, I'm guessing some of the smarter ones do pretty well $ wise.
  11. When you catch other cars in the corners but they pull away from you on the straight bits then you know your car is a bit slow to accelerate
  12. Would PC rally driving be good training for real circuit/road course driving though? Particularly with an all wheel driver like that RB Rex when my real car is not. I guess it would sharpen the reflexes but I don't fancy throwing the real car sideways on tarmac at 200 kph
  13. In my experience the ECU is a very high priority for a car which is driven on the road and does sprints regularly, like mine. For very good reasons like fuel economy, reliability, driveability, engine preservation, tune integrity and so on. Mine has a MoTec M600, for the simple reason that in the long run it is worth it. It drives like it has a factory fitted ECU, its perfect. The worst part of course is the initial outlay but after a year or two you get over that Unfortunately for our North American friends MoTecs sell for 'high' prices there, not a cheap exercise in AU though. But there are cheaper options that are good although the right starting point is a locating good tuner and the then considering ECU's he uses and recommends. So, tuner first, then ECU.
  14. Just look at the suspension type. The S30 was very good in its day with struts all round making it fully independant. With the right dampers etc and setup it can still perform very well. But most sports cars today have double wishbone suspension or similar all round, which is a superior type of suspension to the S30's struts. Plus they have better built in geometry. Their bodies will be way more rigid than the S30's which helps keep suspension alignment under the stress of high speed cornering. With strut suspension camber change is directly proportional to body roll, not so with a well designed double wishbone suspension where camber change is much less. There is plenty more but...............
  15. Looks interesting, a friend of mine has improved his real lap times by practicing on a driving simulator so...........
  16. JeffP has a L28? No doubt the .82 works great, old mate's RB30ET is a good example. Have decided to optimise the custom cams (221* @ .05" lift) valve timing first, then go for a .82 if its still down on power. Funny thing is the car is great to drive with the 1.06, its just a bit slow to accelerate.
  17. I don't think you meant to say that On the under car stuff, for all the work involved the return would be awful small with a S30. By 'under car stuff' I mean anyhing from the gearbox back to the diff. Splitters, spoilers, airdams, wings, diffusers, undertrays......... They all can be used on the S30 as has been discussed many times.
  18. 'day Dave, problem is it boosts too late with the 1.06, apparently the .82 will spool up a lot quicker and is pretty much the standard for three liter manual Nissans. MoTec controls the boost fine with the 1.06, just concerned it can do the same with the .82, up to say 22psi. Hadn't thought about the make of housing, was thinking a 3" Vband would be good. Maybe ATP?
  19. GT35R on a single turbo VG30DET engine with MoTec M600 ECU. The present turbine housing is a internally gated 1.06 which works fine up to 15psi boost, only problem is it does not start to make significan boost until 4500rpm. So I want to replace the 1.06 with a .82 housing but am concerned about boost control using an internal gate with the .82. Seeing the engine has to be removed to work on the turbo it would be useful to get it right this time Fitting an externally gated setup would be extremely difficult due to layout and space constraints, but if it has to be done........... Opinions, experiences?
  20. Word is that a R35 can do its claimed acceleration figures without launch control. Keep in mind that LC is a driver aid, its not some piece of magic that improves performance, basically its for those who can't drive properly. With no LC there can be no warranty disputes about its use, I think its deletion is a sensible move, none of the official imports into AU will have it.
  21. The gold JDM one? Nah, don't like flared guards on a S130.
  22. There has been heaps of discussions with pics on this underbody aero thing
  23. Trying to persuade a friend of mine to import something like that. So all S30 IMSA gtu's are basically like that one?
