  1. Perhaps the advantage of having the radiator opening low comes from superior air flow. With the low opening air is less likely to go under the car because their is an alternative flow path right there, through the radiator. With the opening blocked off high, the air can more easily flow around the sides of the car or, particularly, go over rather than go under. Just my theory.
  2. I've no experience but can see no reason why they should be different.
  3. I usually ignore tailgaters but if they are really intrusive for a length of time then I slow down gradually, until they get the message and move on. Most of them are either attention seekers or just bad drivers, the above seems to work most of the time. Brake checking is a too obvious reaction which can lead to an escalation of the situation, in my experience.
  4. Whittie, on the water getting in problem I've done nothing and do not intend to do anything. My car is basically a track car that gets driven to and from, a bit of water in is not going to do any harm anyway. On the other vent questions, I'm not up with the S30 bonnet area stuff but it has been discussed here before. On the mudguard vents, yes, do it, but those Torana vents are too small although they can be opened out.
  5. Any pics of the Unique 300ZX? It was at the sprints on Sunday and was the standout car for me. He has done a lot of work on the suspension, roll center suspension point relocation stuff etc., it goes well.
  6. The Shell oil I use is readily available in 20 liter drums so it works out cheap enough to encourage regular oil changes. Shell tech said it was good for a race engine if changed regularly, I hope they are right.
  7. Love my three liter turbo engine, three point seven would be even better
  8. Well the big central bonnet vent works, just keep in mind this is with a wide V6 engine, the vent is immediately in front of the engine. Doing laps on the race circuit today the temp was perfect, driving around the burbs the thermo fan hardly ever turns on now. Just goes to show that air exit from the radiator is just as important as air entry. pic
  9. Yeh I saw the lifter misalignment BRAAP, with the scuffing that would induce perhaps an old school oil would have done better. Anyway, its a side issue I guess
  10. With a correctly sized single BB turbo on a 3+ liter 4-500whp engine in a medium weight car you won't get lag worth talking about. Too much low speed torque and you spin wheels too easily, with the right turbo you can get moving without wheelspin and then break urban speed limits in a second or two.
  11. This is a great thread, love the attention to detail. On the question of the cam lobe failures, could be the oil. For emission compliance purposes modern oils have been stripped of a lot of their additives, which were originally used to protect cam lobes etc. In the VG30DET race engine I use a dual purpose diesel/petrol oil which has all the goodies in it still, Shell Rimula Super 10W40.
  12. The S13 suspension geometry is an improvement over the S30's so thats good, only thing is you may not be able to get the amount of caster a S13 usually has, up to 8 degrees for a road course car. It will still be good with less than that for a road car though. I haven't read all the posts thoroughly but it sounds like you have done an excellent job, perhaps this thread could be a sticky.
  13. I've had good results in bending f'glass and plastics as follows. Lay a sheet of iron on the ground in the sun. Support each end of the item so its just clear and above the iron. Put a weight in the middle of the item to bend it in the direction you want. Let the sun do its thing for a few hours. Keep a close eye on the process of course, it relies on heat soaking right through the item and the constant pressure of the weight. All advise given but no responsibility taken
  14. Here is the original source http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=763645
  15. If its plastic then a bit of heat and some bending will get a curve in them, not a problem.
  16. So you have a V6 RB motor, you Kiwis are just too clever
  17. They look good Jon, should be very effective. I've installed a big central vent on the 280ZX, should be going to the track next week so will report back then.
  18. Nothing to do with protectionism is it? No of course not, its............
  19. Does that include black Porsches?
  20. So you can get arrested for not paying traffic fines? In Oz you don't, which is probably why some rack up lots of fines. Then again if you do burnouts and similar, oh lord, the sky falls in
  21. Just noticed this, particularly the first paragraph, only a few years behind, oh dear. Anyway, without thinking too much about it I think you are are on the right track in theory. But I doubt that VG's will enhance boundary layer adhesion on the S130, given the gap created by the bump. So, unless you have a wing, I doubt that VG's will be of any benefit with the S130.
