  1. Enamel based chrome is rubbish, it dulls with a bit of handling. Last stuff that worked for me was acrylic based, it was good, some clear acrylic would help preserve the finish although it dulls it a bit.
  2. VL NA Commodores have the type of box you want but I'm not sure about the ratios. The shifter is quite different, it self centers in the 3/4 plane, bolts to the top with six bolts, its a big improvement. I know the RB20 box is good, there are others. Does sound like you need a new gearbox man though.
  3. Theres a business for someone in the US, import RHD light commercial vehicles for mail runs. New or used, latter may be good from Japan.
  4. Don't think this has been covered before, I know there are torsen type centers available new but can't recall any mention of clutch type centers. A friend with a targa 240Z is asking, trying to get the weight down, a torsen type is not suitable for targa events because rear wheel lifting does happen quite often. Guess the Quaife torsen type with a preload device which is supposed to stop wheel lift spin is a possible option but it would be a bit of a gamble, gambling is not a good thing in a targa event. So anyone got any idea?
  5. It looks like a 'show car' so its not expected to be practical, but I have to say that switch panel is horrible. Speaking of good taste, just browse the Summit truck accessory catalogue, some of the stuff in there had me wondering although I'm sure no HybridZ person would be guilty of using same
  6. Now have the M&W six channel CDI unit and six Mercury coils, should have it all setup and on the dyno in the next week or two. Depending, we'll screw the boost up to ~25psi and see how we go. For those who don't know, the six channel unit allows one coil to serve one cylinder of a six cylinder engine, no waste spark or any of that rubbish. Its not a cheap exercise but the car is too good not to see it through
  7. Well done, custom plates are silly prices.
  8. Never had those problems myself although on the current Z I looped a breather tube like John suggests. I believe some oils foam more than others, that may be worth checking out.
  9. A NZ company that makes a kit for the 280ZX has been mentioned on this forum before. Aerotech? Something like that.
  10. Yeh have wondered that myself. The answer probably is because race cars are able to use a full cage and its with full cages that most of the design effort has been done. One area that is often neglected is the sills/rockers, its not hard to run square section tube underneath along the pinch welds and tie that in with a half cage and other structural parts. Good for jacking on too.
  11. Need a couple of fiberglass doors for the 280ZX shorty, can do Dave?
  12. Divide it into two parts, thats pretty common.
  13. 'Dot-sun' sounds almost so called upper class English eg "I say old chap, lets go for a spin in the Dotsun" Lets not get started on 'Nissan' you crazy Murricans he he, once again, how its spelt. 'Niss' as in piss, kiss 'an' as in can, ban, ran.........
  14. Only thing is the Miata/MX5 has double wishbone suspension, far superior to struts and particularly the S30's geometry. With mods the S30 can take a lot wider wheels which would negate that advantage to some degree but thats getting into outright race car territory.
  15. Thats an abbreviation Dave, so soon you forget.
  16. As its spelt, 'Dat' as in 'that' or 'rat', 'sun' as in 'son' or that big ball in the sky. In American road tests 'dart-sun' seems common.
  17. S30 generally and compared with a modern car. Advantages - light, 50/50 weight distribution, independant suspension all round, huge amount of tuning/upgrade info around. Disadvantages - aerodynamics, suspension/steering, flexible chassis.
  18. If you Americans called a 'trunk' a 'boot' like the rest of the civilised world does, then think of the possibilities with that word..................
  19. Yeh Dashboard Restorations did the 280ZX one, cost a bomb but what choice do you have for that original look? They do good work, only problem I've found is that the holes for the gauges, speedo and so on end up smaller due to the overlay of the covering material they use. That can't be helped I suppose, its part of the restoration process.
  20. Hop on a plane and I'll take you for a ride in mine, see what you think
  21. What I'm thinking of is one large rearwards facing flush vent in the middle of the bonnet. Basically a hole 250 x 80mm, 10 x 3" for the Imperialists Located just in front of where the V6 engine sits, which would be ~ half way along the bonnet. One suggestion is that because the car has a wide V engine air flow past it to the OE vents is restricted.
