Oil Pan Removal L28ET - Please share tips!
slownrusty replied to slownrusty's topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
Well Afshin - I figured that might be the problem....SHAZIT! I looked at the tranny and how close it might be to the tunnel even with jacking up the motor and deep within my bowels I knew that there was still not enough room for the oil pan to slide out. I managed to get the oil pan loose and its dangling but after 21years and 145,000+ miles it was welded on to the bottom of the block and in prying it off, I bent one of the corners in....and I was hoping to remove the dang oil pan to straighten that corner out, plus sand it down, paint it and clean it. Now this little project has turned into a BIG pain... Boy if the tranny was not there.....that would make life easier...I wonder if I loosen the tranny and slide it back as far as it would go on the splines without removing it, if the pan might slide out then??? Cody - You must have read my mind....as I was thinking that is what I should do, adapt a fitting to the stock oil temp. sender but now I have this bent oil pan to deal with... Gosh guys I need some help! any ideas? Yasin -
Sounds like you went to Barrie? Yasin

Hi Gang - I am going to remove my oil pan as the gasket is starting to leak and I will use this opportunity to tap it for an Autometer mechanical oil temp gauge. Can I remove the oil pan completely without loosening the engine mounts and sliding it out over the X-member with the engine still in place? Can anyone share any tips and tricks before I tackle it. Thanks a bunch! This is on my ZXT BTW. Regards - Yasin

Check This Hybrid..500cu.in Caddy Motor in a Corvair..no 56k

Z-REX - Doug is keeping the entire FWD Caddy Eldorado set-up incl. the tranny which wraps around to the side of the engine. The drive shaft will only be a few feet long and the Currie diff is designed to rotate backwards of course. Doug wanted to push the envelope and I think he has successfuly done that, the car has so much trick stuff on it, its mind boggling to absorb it all in one sitting. Yes even though it will be just carb'd and have cast heads, this engine will make power that will be mind blowing and torque to pull an oil tanker. More to come! Regards - Yasin -
I will Chad direct as I am genuinely interested. Regards - Yasin

You guys will enjoy this.....a very close friend of mine has been working on this '67 Corvair for just over two years. Next year it will be done. It will be powered by 500cu.in Caddy Eldorado motor punched out to 509cu.in. Car was a east coast car with lots of cancer, so Doug (the ownerbuilder) drastically removed everything rotten and replaced it all with metal and then re-inforced the car extesively. There is an extensive amount of work done to the car, but I will let the pics speak for themselves. The car will be eventually twin turbocharged.....!!!! Take a look at the hand made side scoops, that will house one (Ron Davis) aluminum radiator per side. The box below will house the Wilwood pedal box and twin brake resevoirs and the frame that you see in the middle is for one of the THREE Ron Davis radiators. Check the tunnel to house all the electrical and radiator hoses, misc lines. Notice how the floor is moved up and forward to be more comfortable once the Corbeau racing seats are installed: Where the 20gallon fuel cell will be housed: Check out the breast plate infront of where the engine will sit and the truss re-inforcement: The 509cu.in beast, fuel cell and 17" Colorado Custom wheels (10" rear, 7" front, 285/40 front, 225/45 front!!) with offset Currie diff and rear discs: Serpentine Belt adapted and modified off a F150!. TH400 tranny, huge valves, ported cast heads, will have custom made headers, Edelbrock Performer intake, MSD distributor and igntion. Take a peak at the engine mounts too: Enjoy - Yasin

Who Makes The Most Reliable Car...You HAVE To see these PICS

Did you guys notice the perfect uncracked dash! Now that cracked me up! Glad you enjoyed the pics. Regards - Yasin -
Don't do it man....louvers definately not for me....YUK!!! My ZXT had them when I bought my car many moons ago and they were black aluminum and due to the extra weight of them, they would also kill the hatch struts prematurely.....did I mention they make the car look ugly! I took them off, threw them away and the hatch that has to be drilled (!!) and went to the scrap yard got a clean unmolested hatch and glass for $25 and tinted the entire car professionally. It camw out like this: I know you must be frustrated after your endeavours and it sucks when you try to save a buck and you end up spending two or three. Well good luck! Regards - Yasin

Wow....very original and smart! Props to the owner Yasin

I picked up just over 3wheel hp by installing an HKS adj. cam gear on the exhaust side of my twin cam Toyota 4AG 20valve. I would have installed one on the intake side, but it has a unique VVT gear that runs off oil pressure and advances the intake as the rpms go and oil pressure goes up. Yasin

Love it....wish I had the space for it! Nothing special under the hood just SU and the orig. 2.4L, but I love the look and stance. Clean, low and menacing! Reserve not met and sitting at $4500. Yasin

I have been using Amsoil synthetic 75W90 oil in my tranny and rear ends in various cars since 19961997 and love them - cannot recommend them enough! I have never used their engnes oils - not yet anyway. Yasin -
Beautiful.....speechless..... Yasin

I have the video of that SCC. If I remember the first engine is started and then a few seconds later the second engine is started and then engaged. The SCC video did not talk too much about the actual logistics of the set-up - unfortunately! They could have shot the entire video just on that car. Yasin

No one makes a set of bolt in coilovers for the 280ZX. Ross at Modern Motorsports sells a kit, but requires that you know (or know someone) welding. The fronts are relatively simple and will require that you run a weld bead around the strut tube as a holder for the threded collar. The rears are simply a pain in the azz. And you will have to cutom fab a holder for the threded collars and also grind down the OE spring perch (which is a little precarious as heat from the grinder and a gas filled sealed strut do not mix well). As far as I know I am the only person on this board that has coilovers on my ZX. It took me over two months to make my coilovers and I had lots of problems at first especially with the rears. It required several attempts before getting them right. I bought my kit from a "supposed reputable" vendor, who used to post on here regularly and has now disappeared. This vendor was quick to take my $400+ and then when I called for assistance said "well....I never have actually put coilovers on a ZX before...." and then used to give me attitude like he was too busy to take a minute out of his day to answer my questions. Needless to say that added to my frustration, but in the end I figured it out and the car handles great!! If I see that vendor, I have a spare coilover that I want compress upside his head! Anyway here are some pics of my set-up. I have been asked by several people, especially those that have stumbled across my website to build a coilover kit for the ZX, but I am just too swamped with work, family and other commitments...maybe in the future.... Front: Rear: Hope that helps - Regards - Yasin

I have had mine for about a year and have had zero problems. Yasin

The best street engine ever built... Could be!

Beautiful although I was too lazy to read the description! And can't wait to see the new M5 itself. Did not realize the oil pump is chain driven off the crank and also the paired cams are driven off each other too, not four independent cams. Still the sound of 500+ hp rolls off my tongue just lovely. Yasin
