deja If you can get a picture tonight of the balance / steering rack I would really appreciate it. Hard to tell with the radiator cross member right there. Thanks man for your help. I think I was looking at a member who has a zx with the LT1 in the setback position and the balancer is behind the rack, maybe I was hallucinating - I don't do drugs - an occasional beer but no drugs. Deja, Thanks, for the information on the Opti. I’m glad the hub does not have to come off, as that guy can be a real pain to pull off the end of the crank. Down the road, I will have to pull the hub to change the cam as I will be doing a complete topend. At this point I don’t know if I should bit-the-bullet and get the whole thing done right now. I’m going to have the heads port and polished by Lloyd Elliot in a couple of months so I guess I will wait to do everything at one time. Thanks for the information on the balancer that is one less thing to worry about. So I understand with the engine in the setback position (AKA JTR) the balancer is behind the steering rack, correct? Pop N Wood, So you let it go for $250? Not too bad at all. I would really like to ket that amount. Danno74Z

Forgive me if this is the wrong place for this question. I will be pulling my tired Datsun Z engine soon and was wondering if there is a need or demand for these old engines. What is the value for them? As most of these engines are now 30 years old most need a total rebuild. In my case, I have the downdraft dual Weber’s so I can perhaps get a few $ for them. Probably, just take it and tranny to a junk yard – any suggestions? What did some of you guy do with the old hunk of CI? Thanks Danno74Z

Deja, Going very nice! Congrats on getting the LT1 a new home - Looks sweet. You mentioned you had to work on the OPTI and I saw you removed it, what was wrong with it? Preventive maintenance? To pull the OPTI do you have to remove the crankshaft front hub? The unit the balancer bolts to. Also, if memory serves me right the front LT1 balancer is 7.5†in diameter. Are there any interference problems with the steering rack? Thanks, Danno74z

Hi Jody, From your pictures I have a pretty good idea on how to construct a similar a/c bracket like yours. Thanks again for all the input on this. Danno74Z
-
jbc3 Thanks again for fixing the pictures it was a big help. I really like your aluminum bracket setup. Very clean and costs a lot less then other commercially made units. It looks like you tapped into the existing Datsun A/C lines is that correct? Any chance I could bribe you for a copy of the bracket drawing to make one for myself? My email address is Dan_Laurizio@msn.com Thanks, Danno74z

jbc3, When you have a minute could you try reloading the pictures of you a/c lines. All I see are 3 boxes with a red x in the middle. Thanks, Danno74Z

JBC3, I have a couple of questions for you. In your first picture down below the A/C compressor next to the frame rail you have an adaptor with two lines going into it, what is this for? I'm guessing it is for the A/C in and out. In order to mount the compressor on to your bracket did you have to take it apart? Where are the lines to the evaporator and dryer? Lastly, what is this fitting inside the white rectangle? THANKS Danno74Z

that240guy, Thank you for the information on the cam. Z48LT-1, asked my next question was the rest of the engine totally stock? 338HP at the rear wheels with just a cam change is very impressive! That means you are close to 400HP at the crank. I have read in a lot of publications and on the web that this fellow does some very good work with the LT1 head. Those boy's from Texas surevknow how to make some good power! I am thinking about going this route. The most bang for the buck and it is a complete package. Lloyd Elliott 101 Ridge Crest Red Oak, Tx 75154 http://www.eportworks.com/ Here is just one item from his web page. Head/cam package will pull from 2,000 to 6,200 RPM and should make *370 – 390 RWHP with 30 lb. injectors, 52 MM T.B., 1 ¾ LT’s no cats, good tuning, etc. This will have an idle similar to the HotCam, CC 305, etc. but will make more HP & TQ than these cams with the same RPM range. The LE1 heads consist of: Stock Valves with Back Out CM 612 Spring Retainers & Locks 195 CC Intake Port Milling Cleaning Assembly Flow About 260/180 Ready To Bolt On *The HP#’s mentioned are typical for an F-body with 6 speed, stock rear and with ALL of the complimenting parts mentioned. LE1 Head/Cam Package - $1,200 plus shipping. $850 for Heads only.

that240guy, Looking at your numbers on the cam swap in the new LT1 engine you made anywhere from a 63HP to a 103HP gain with a cam and good tuning on an otherwise stock LT1. (338HP - 235HP or 338HP - 275HP) Either way it tells me you can really wake up the LT1 engine with a cam swap. What is the model number on that cam you put in the 95 Camaro? It is a little bigger then the GM hotcam but not too much. How is the idle? I would never pay $1,700 for the Painless kit either but that is just me. Danno74Z

Bart, PW65205 - Painless "Perfect" Engine Management System -(Controller, Harness, Camshaft) - For Chevy LT1 Engines - 365 HP Upgrade Pace Price $1,705.97 "The new LT1 system produced 370 HP and 387 lbs/ft of torque. That’s a 45 HP gain over stock. No tinkering, no dialing, no calibrating. Just install the camshaft and plug the system in." From Painless This was part of my reason why I asked the question 4 days ago - What is the rated HP of the Camaro LT1 engine. The numbers just don't add-up. To my knowledge no LT1 engine made 325HP. 305 was the highest ever achieved on the base LT1. The LT4 made 330 HP but that was a different engine with some similarities to the LT1. Somebody is fibbing! My first question - Why does the ZZ4 make so much more HP (355) then the LT1 (285) when they are basically the same engine. These numbers don't add up either. The ZZ4 does have a bigger cam in it but it uses the old L98 heads which I read are inferior to the LT1's - I don't know? So how can a cam produce 70 more HP? Here are the cam and engine specs of both engines. I would sure like to know where all the ZZ4 HP comes from? ZZ4 camshaft and Head Specs. Thanks Wheelman. The engine is from a Camaro. I thought it would be higher than 285HP but it is what it is. How then does the ZZ4 hit 355HP? These two engines are basically the same beast. From what I can tell, the ZZ4 has slightly inferior heads to the LT1 but the cam is more aggressive, so I figured it was a wash between the two engines. Why the 70HP difference? Danno74Z
-
I have seen that HP number before but IMO I think it is low. Does anyone have actual dyno numbers for the 350 LT1 1995 engine. Danno74z

Does anyone know what the rated horsepower at the crankshaft is for the LT1 engine? 1995? Danno74Z

I guess this means a link below the members name to their photo album is not going to happen. No harm in asking! I thought it would be an easy upgrade but I guess not. Thanks. Danno74Z

I have a question to SuperDan or another member. Right now, when one wants to view a member’s picture album he or she has to go to the member list page and find that member the then click to the member’s album. Is this correct? If there is a faster way please let me know, if not I have a suggestion. On the left side of a thread there is the members name and if you click on it you have a few choices to make such as email, buddy list, etc. In this same menu selection why not have a link to the members photo album if they have one. There is a choice for members web page so why not their photo album too. Fast and convenient! Thanks!!!! Danno74Z

Has any member used 12" (vs the 10") free length coilovers (springs) on there Z's? I don't feel it's necessary to go the 10" route in my case but any suggestions would be great. Thanks. Danno74Z

2004 LS2 GTO.....OneFastCar!!!
Danno74Z replied to Danno74Z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
All, I was wrong with the year it was indeed a 2005 GTO w/the LS2 engine. I still can't believe how fast that car is at 3800 lbs. John, yes he runs at Bandimere but with his OTHER 1970 GT0 and his wife has a beautiful Chevelle with a 502 in it. He took out the 455 or 454 and made a 502 engine - this is my new boss mind you - all right. When I told him about my project with the LT1 he just smiled and said that will be a fast car. Danno74Z -
Yesterday, I got to ride in the fastest car I have ever been in. That LS2 engine is one SWEET Engine!!! Damn. Mods: Magna Charger with 6PSI boost Long tube headers 3" Duel Exhaust CB System Dyno Tunning That is it! I was told that the engine was putting out over 500 HP - No Bull. On a back flat country road we went from a stop to 142MPH before slowing her down!!!! I can't believe how fast we got up to 142. The braking was very impressive too. I was told the car would go to 155 before the acceleration would taper off. 142 was plenty fast for me and the car was so stable at that speed! Danno74Z
