Sweet, just went out and checked the 3rd injectors plug and it just poped off with a push of my finger. I looked at the connector and its full of rust. Hopefully I can get a replacement or try to clean this one out, the plastic is broken. I dont know why I didnt check it before. Maybe since its the injectors thats hiding under a bunch of tubes and the fuel rail. Thanks Ferrariferg! Also, I hardly ever see the oil temp move. It seems to stay right at the left sometimes a few mm to the right. It has a oil cooler and it is cold outside, should I block the cooler with a piece of cardboard or something?

Ok a little update. Things I checked.. - I replaced the filter, no difference. - Put in a can of fuel injector cleaner, no difference - Checked all the spark plugs gaps and cleaned them even though they looked pretty nice. Didnt help at all. - Cleaned the afm, tps, and water temp sensors (one between 5/6 on the head) The tps had some green corrosion but it didnt make much difference. - Cleaned the points on the distributor, no difference. - Air filters good. - Didnt find any vacume leaks, I will check more later. - Wastegate isnt frozen, It moves freely. Problems.. - What I thought was the pop off valve is actually a back fire out the intake. Im going to upload a video where I you can here it. - Cylinder 3 is dead, I pulled the sparkplug wires and you could hear the engine slow down till you hit 3, no change at all. It is getting spark so Ill be checking the fuel injector. - Engine still stumbles and depending on how fast Im going will die. If Im going fast enough the car moving will bring the rpms back up till the engine regains power. - I got on a long stretch of road and gave it full throttle, it downshifts and goes up to 4000 and will hit a wall. Acceleration virtually vanishes and you have to let off so it will shift up and then you can accelerate again (drops back to the 3000 range). My ideas.. - Fuel starvation up top. - Timing - Bad injector - Bad AFM? - ??? My plan.. - Spark looks somewhat weak so Im going to look at a new coil and distributor cap. - Pull the fuel rail, clean injectors maybe go get them tested? - Try to find someone with a timing light so I can check timing. - Get a fuel pressure guage to see if Im getting enough fuel. EDIT- Heres the video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMA_nK-Ouy4 At the end you can here the pop. It is coming from the very front of the car, at the filter so I assume its a backfire. Also if you listen and watch the throttle, you can see it actually begins to die if you throttle it. It will bog for a second then rev up. Also included a bit showing the afm and throttle. When I pull the spark plug wires you can faintly hear the engine bogging or not doing anything (in number 3's case).

Well for me if I wasnt able to see it being faster, working on it wasnt much of a benefit. The only time you can tell its faster is when it will wheelie.

Well Ive got an extra fuel rail from a 280zxt so maybe Ill just switch it over and see what happens. Also Im guessing you dont really clean a fuel filter, you just replace it correct?

Little update. Drove it over to Idaho and back. Total of about 120 miles. Made it home in 2 pieces (t top trim fell off as I left ) It still was stumbling, any RPM. I would just be driving along and the RPM's will drop down and in some cases just stall the car. The engine will stay running since the car is moving, within a second the engine is fine and the RPMs go back up. I was driving along at 70 and it start to stumble so I put it in nuetral, the engine slowly ran down and then stalled.. When it didnt stumble it pulled nicely, would quickly get up to 85. Also, when you get on it it goes up to about 4500 rpm and then kind of stays there, the car wont shift up Im assuming the computer assumes its still accelerating? I also noticed when you rev it in place it will go up to about 3500 and then it starts to surge its way up to 5000 or so. Lastly when you step on it from a stop it has a hard time.. So far from what Im reading sometimes this is an issue dealing with the electrical connections and a matter of cleaning them up. Checking for condensation, any corrosion, etc. Either way Ill go through all the connections tomorrow, replace the plugs, check the fuel filter/injectors, cat, vacume leaks, timing, distributor, maybe pull the j pipe to check out the turbine. If Im able to get my hands on a pressure tester Ill check the compression as well. Hopefully one of these will be the solution, if theres anything else I might check let me know, it will be much appreciated. Also Marc, gave you a call, you must be out. Give me a call in the morning, Im setting aside tomorrow to work on the car.

Well I got it this morning. Its an 81 280zxt, new tires and battery, a little rust, runs and drives well, good brakes, T-tops... and TURBO! The car was impounded for having an unlicensed driver, car went to auction PO friend bought it then sold it to the PO. He bought it for a winter car instead of his Corvette... Not sure on the reasoning for buying another RWD sports car... He only had it for 2 months and sold it to me. I cannot believe how much different of a powerband this thing has compared to my RAV4. When you step on it it doesnt feel like its accelerating since the RPMs dont go way up but it sure is! Once you hit ~45-50 in 3rd it really takes off! There is something wrong with the engine, hopefully it just needs a tune up. Also a couple times when I got it up to 4000rpm I heard a pop. Im assuming this is the pop off valve. I didnt see the wastegate opening when I cracked the throttle with the hood open (throttling it manually) Im not sure if the car has to have a load on it to build boost so not sure if its a problem. Also it died on me a few times as I was coming to a stop light and as I was waiting for the light. It also seems to hesitate above 4k.. hopefully its all semi minor stuff. Anyways got the car for $550! Im going to be driving it for the next month or so instead of my RAV4, Ill get it running really nice then pull the motor for my 78 and part out the rest. Im really excited, for the last 7 years Ive been dumping money into a car I have yet to drive. This was much cheaper and I am able to go out a drive it! It will hold me off till I can get my brakes finished and tires mounted on my 78. Also it had a Z Specialties license plate rim, Im hoping they would have done some kind of work on the car in the recent past.

Id only use the engine. Then part out the rest and scrap the car. If you need any parts let me know. It might help me make a decision.

Hey Im looking at a 280zxt tomorrow and the owner mentioned the "sensor" light is on. He says it runs fine so he doesnt know what it is. So what is this sensor light and what imputs does it look at to determine if it turns on? Is he thinking the check engine light? Ive never really looked at a 280zxt dash so Im not sure what it means. Thanks BTW Im not trying to get a diagnosis for it, just want to know what kind of thing turns it on, I can then check to see if theres anything majorily wrong with that specific system.

I dont see any pictures so "better pics" would be better. Its hard to say what you can make off of a car. You never know who needs what. Though their are certain items that will sell its just a matter of time.
