Yeah I read that. Thanks. I still am very weary. The gunsmith I talked to today even pointed out spots where you could tell it was brittle. Scope mount holes top thread is visibly almost chipping off, and it just looks brittle. Ill take a picture. Hard to see since the camera sucks on micro, but it looks like I could just break the piece off with a screw driver or something... not encouraging...

Just stopped by Brocks, very nice guys... but figured out I just have a wall ornament. They even have a sign that says "we will no work on any 1903's before 850,000"!!! He said I might be able to get away with it but he highly reccomended not firing it. Well Im going to try and get into contact with the guy that sold it to me. A friend of mine, was sitting with a friend of his in the booth next to the guy that sold me the gun. Hopefully Ill somehow get phone number/address so I can pay him a visit. :fmad: Might get to fire it once....... (just kidding, maybe, sort of)

Well he cut out the rear flooring for the 9in so he replaced it with aluminum. Sweet car! More pics please.

Well I would love a real 1903 military rifle but I hear theyre kind of spendy.. I think this will be fine for me for now to get better with my larger caliber shooting techniques.

Yeah Big Five has had the $79 specials for a long time. They say their "collectors rifles" rather than old, worn out russian surplus rifle. But if it works... Ill buy one!

Are they the "Sportorized" ones or the military style. I like the military style and actually bought the top wooden handguard but I think finding a lower stock will be expensive. I also need to get one of the pop up rear sights along with a front sight.

Sadly I went to the gun show and ended up making some money and then spending some... and as suspected more than I had made. Picked up a 1915 Springfield 1903 30-06. I got it relatively cheap since I did a partial trade for my 22, and honestly didnt know alot about the gun but I made a call based on what I saw and got it. Ive been doing some research over the last day and found out about the reciever issues the early (<800,000) had and since mine is a 618,787 it would fall into that category. Turns out that 1915 was one of the better years for the "brittle" recievers, so Im not to concerned of just having a rifle to sit in my room. Im going to get it checked out anyways see if theres any issues to watch for and get a yes/no for firing it. Anyone have a 1903? Seems like it was a GREAT gun in its time and Im looking forward to bruising my shoulder! Ill upload a few pics soon. Next to my 870 express. The features I would like them to have. :)

Whats the likeliness of actual oil coming out of the spark plug holes rather than it being burnt in the combustion chamber? (except if there was a TON of oil) It also seems as was mentioned it would only come out if the spark plugs werent tight. Seems kind of backwards....

My personal opinion is 1) Stop spending money, 2) Learn about cars in general 3) Learn specifics on 280zx's 4) Continue to not spend money 5) Learn more 6) Still keep your cash 7) Learn a little more 8) Start spending cash based on what you find best from your research. A good example of this plan not being followed and the affects showing.... buying a 2.5k sound system. The second you had it installed the value of the system went down. Most people wont pay 2.5k over the cars normal value if a 2.5k system is installed. Your possibly going to sell the car and that money is all gone.

Well you obviously couldnt tell that a small zg flare wont cover a large molded flare. How does he know youll be concerned about the drivetrain/brakes/suspension? With the given information it was a pretty valid response.

Anyone thought of making some members could print off? Ive seen alot of Z's but no owners, I could just put one under the wipers or something. Or give one to a Zer you happen to meet. Maybe a little space to write your own screen name. I know there are a few graphic designers here that could make something up.

No muffler... Sounds cool but I havent had to drive it for more than a few minutes.
