  1. I welded my 240Z tank up with no problems...though I was a bit nervous about it. I called the radiator shop up and asked them if they would boil it out and then i would weld it up and take it back to boil it again. they said that that wasnt really necessary and I could easily wash it out myself. so i did. I drained the tank first, and the let it sit under my back porch for a week, then I filled it with dish washing soap and sloshed it around, drained and repeated a couple of times. after that I drianed it again and let it sit out for another week. I was still a little leary about cutting and welding on it, but I st6ill have all my fingers and hair....so I guess it turned out alright.
  2. thats funny, Im always making the yipyip sounds at work when i get busy or bored (usually both at the same time.) only a few people get it....but its cool to see the pictures again....yipyipyipyip....nopenopenope... didnt those things also like nectarines?
  3. oh no... My favorite band of all time...I grew up listening to bitchen camero, plum dumb, tiny town...the entire big lizard album. That really bums me out, I was just listening to metaphysical graffiti last night.... So sad, I never got to see them play. Speechless. so many memories related to DM.
  4. Ive had more than my fair share of cool driving experiences...so its hard to chose just one. the shop that I worked at was one of only handful of authorized Shelby dealers and builders, so we got to have some fun in the CSX series 427 shelbys...as much as I hated assembling those POS, they did have some grunt. We also had a bunch of vintage race cars in the shop that we maintained. one of my favs was a 67 mini cooper S that had a log book a mile long...including Monte Carlo rallies! car was updated just a little....RHD, 13-1 compression, straight exhaust with a megaphone tip sticking out the back...car was never street legal, but because we did work for the local cops on occasion....hauling ass downtown was sometimes (most of the time) permitted. the same family that owned the mini had a vintage LHD 356© (i think) that was also a blast...but was constantly mangling valves. (not our fault) it was quick...but his sons mini S would drive circles around it all day long. We were also the only US distributor for WestField cars. Including the o-so yummy MegaBusa 8! Six forward speeds, six reverse speeds. Incredibly light, all carbon fiber, no roof, no doors. That car was by far the fastest thing I have ever driven. We never got it to the track, but apparently it runs mid 11's. What a damn crazy machine that was. I used to take my lunch break sitting inside different race cars. formula fords, vintage F1, Can-am cars...you name it, and I’ve probably eaten my lunch in it. woot!
  5. hey this is interesting news, I was wondering what I was going to with that spare early 240Z bellhousing....now I know. Zweet!!!!!! Mike, let me know what you find out if he e-mails you back.
  6. Hey Tim, I had no idea that was your field of choice. cool. Well the paper is going to focus on the air quality control side of pollution credits. I suppose I am seeking some general information about how they work, do certain industries get a specific amount, or does it very from company to company? Do they use the pollutant history of a company to base amount of credits received? is company A allowed to sell unused credits to company B, thereby allowing Company B to pollute beyond their allotted tonnage? Is there limits? Is there a regulatory body that oversees trading and selling? Is there still a program that allows companies to crush older cars in order to earn credits? What’s the car/credit ratio, or is there a report or website I can read in order to find out all the details I need. What are your thoughts/co-workers thoughts on the impact of credits, and or credit trading? is it felt that the system is merely a band aid fix to air pollution...is it generally thought to be unfair? Anything else you would like to add would be great, I’m looking to write a fair unbiased paper that extensively examines the pros/cons of the pollution credit system, while giving a rough outline of how it works/why it doesn’t work. Thanks in advance for any info or source of info you can provide. Im also looking for the opinions of people invloved in the classic car/ hotrod hobby. anybody care to comment? -S
  7. ...and tell me your thoughts on them. Im writing a small paper on pollution credits and would like to hear everyones opinions on them. good or bad. if you have some good sources or like to keep updated on this topic please post links if you have them. thanks in advance. it seems the more I dig into this, the more conflicting information I get. hmmm.. -S
  8. just started having this problem, it sucks to type out a huge post, only to lose it when you go to post. I am logging in every time I look at another post, or try to reply.. que es el dealio?
  9. hey Dan, LOVE the bimmer. you are right about the purist attitude of the BMW snobs, its funny though how the Beemer guys (cycle) are so much nicer. I once had a 2002 and was a member of the BMWCCA, there was only a couple of times I felt welcomed at a meeting or road rally, and it was usually by the classic '02 guys, or the 3.0CS guys. funny how you can be a member of a "club", and then act like an ass to anybody that doesnt own and e36 M3. strange. anywho, if my life and business plan go as I wish, then the bimmer purists are really going to hate me. my mind is too big, and my notebook even bigger though, for me to keep my wants and desires hidden. its gonna be tough. my all time fav bimmers are: M5 (first gen) only sold in black on black! kicks as sleeper! M6/6 series....so nice M3 E30/E30 318IS/IX my next car. modded of course 8 series...although pigish, still a nice looking machine 2002tii lots of glass....like a green house on wheels 160s touring 1600 convertable 3.0CSL/CSI 83 323I euro spec. E36 M3 E46 330Ci anywho...thats not much of a list at all. -S
  10. Yeah I was bummed out about that one, I was finally reaching 500 posts and was so ready to be the hybridZ master...now, only a few posts away from my current short term goal, the end is snatched from my greasy POR-15 stained hands.... so sad.
  11. ...A moose once bit my sister...
  12. Wow John, Your car is really coming along nicely. love the cell and battery mount! what do you plane to make your subframe connectors out of? and how are you going to install them? I would love to make some for my 72T, but I know for a fact that I will not be able to make very pretty welds while on my back on the garage floor I know that nobody else will see them, but I will know whats under there, and that drives me nuts. anywho... -S
  13. wow, this is my first time watching this show. i must say it really sucks, sorry if i wasted anyones time. the only thing that makes it better is the DosEquis in my hand.
  14. speed channel, not a Z, but its a nissan, might be interesting to see what they do. laterz -S
  15. Tahoe it is, We just found a cabin at heavenly for a grat price, turns out thats the start of the off season up there. cant wait to go, and unfortunatly, I wont be able to make it to the HybridZ meet, some time though, I still looking at moving out that way, but have some things that I need to clear up here first. thanks for the info everyone! -S
  16. well, as it is with most 240Z clocks, new or used, you have to set it every minute. try the knob that comes out of the center of the clock face.
  17. Hey Chris, What are you going to want for your old turbo and down pipe? just wondering! and PS! you need to bring that Z over for the next San antonio or Austin Show!
  18. yeah, anybody that bought and drives an aztec is without a doubt a complete ass. I run into those type of people all the time, I just put on my most sarcastic face and voice and say "whatever you say mister sir sir!" those people are close minded jackasses that spent far too much time being controlled by thier wife at home. farkem! and throw down 400HP sans bottle.
  19. In the Modern Mega-Corp there is no place for customer service. the supervisor is always available, but the company policy is to put the irrate pissed off customer on hold just long enough that they calm down or give up and never call again. how is it that and electronic device with little or no moving parts can only have a 90 day warranty, and yet a car can have 3 years or 30k miles? its because they want to make sure that we have to buy a new TV at some point in time...and it doesnt matter who we buy it from. just as long as we gobble up the newest technology time after time. your CD player doesnt play MP3s your screen is too convex your moniter is too deep your computer wont play this game 3.1 megapixels is soooo last year your phone doesnt take pictures your vacuum doesnt twirl dirt around in a clear chamber upgrade upgrade upgrade.
  20. I will be looking forward to that as well, looks like my standalone EMS money is going to the "girlfriend" fund. but i can still afford the Z31 stuff. ...just barely.... -S
  21. woh...666 posts nion. dont go to far from home today. anyway...that little bug sure is having fun. looks kinda goofy and herbie-ish though sliding around like that. still, I would much rather be drifting a bug in a round-a-bout right now than sitting in class.
  22. yup....I dont think the are BBS wheels. BBS is very proud of thier stuff, and usually have it cast into the wheel in several locations. also, they look to be of lesser quality than BBS wheels usually are, notice that the edges on the spokes are square, and not rounded off like every single BBS wheel Ive seen. probably early eagle or prime wheels.
  23. always start stock' date=' the biggest mistake you can make is to start modifying something before you get it all straight. start stock, then mod, that way when something goes wrong, you have a better idea what it might be. yes, it will all work just fine. the early NA computer will trigger the Turbo injectors...it may run a tad rich though. If you have all the 81 electronics already, I would seriously recomend that you go ahead and do the job right the first time..no sense in doing the work twice.
  24. well, she lives in monterey, and both of us have spent plenty of time there, so its time to go somewhere else. I have been to cali countless times and have been to just about every part, but she has only lived there 8 months, and has been limited to seeing LA, monetery and the local areas, and san francisco...so i just figured that we should go somewhere that she has never been. ...peronally...I would be fine with lounging in Monterey for the entire week, but shes wants to "getaway" from school... completetly understandable.
  25. thanks for the tips guys, Tahoe is making its way to the top of the list, but the first round of trying to find an affordable hotel has turned up close to nil. How has the pass been from Sac. to Tahoe? its been a while since Ive been up that way, and dont remeber if it was a harry ride or not. we might spend friday and saturday night in tahoe, then drive over to the wine country for a sunday night stay. who knows... thanks for the tips...hope to see more!
