Eww. I dont like the type 3 Cool pics though. Thanks

Im pretty sure everyone on this forum will agree when I say to leave it alone. The time and effort taken to make that car look the way it does is far to much to go disassembling it in hopes to make it look ordinary. There are lots of people that like the Gnose and a lot of people who dont. The problem is there are far more z cars that look normal then there are with a great looking version of the gnose. My personal opinion is if you found one of those people who lives for the Gnose look you could sell them this car and most likely make enough money to buy 2 Z cars that look normal. Normal Z cars are a dime a dozen... Gnoses are not. just my .02

Well first off the air dam is probably urethane not rubber. If you wanted to keep it the black color you might want to paint it black and after lightly sanding away the scuffs. It seems like if you just sanded away the scuffs, the sanded parts might not come out the same color as you intended. Now someone correct me if I'm wrong as I have not done this myself. Ben

anyone willing to fab bumper mounts for hbz?
COmputoman replied to COmputoman's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Well datsun spirit has the rears.. Who has the front? do you have a link six shooter? -
I really need some bumper mounts to adapt skinny front and rear bumpers onto my 260. I tried fabbing some for the front, but failed. here is a set for the rear http://store.datsunspirit.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=67 Problem is. I dont want to spend 80 buckers for 2 small pieces of metal with holes, not to mention the front ones don't exist;-). I understand that fabbing parts takes time, but im sure if someone did a batch of these we could get them for less. Unfortunately i dont have the expertise to create such a bracket. Which means im kind of at a loss until I can pay someone to make some. PS I know the subject of how to create these has already been covered. Just checking to see if someone could make these availble to us. Also if this needs to be in the group buys forum please move it. Thanks Ben

Timeline of a Crash Event
COmputoman replied to johnc's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
The time line for a z collision is probably a lot shorter. 1Ms Car touches z 4Ms z starts to crumple 15 Ms Z turns into tin can being stepped on 300 Ms Driver wishes he had welded a roll cage -
So here is the question six shooter. Can you use a 225mm flywheel on a setup that used to be 240mm? Also is there that much of a disadvantage if im not running a high HP application?

cygnusx1 Is the member who has the rubber alternative.
-
Well My old shifter was for a 280zx. Also the drive shaft from a auto should work for a 5 speed from a ZX? Oh well I guess I got an extra one then.
-
I'm actually in the middle of doing this swap for my 260z that is automatic. here are the parts I had to get for the swap 1. Drive shaft from a manual 280 2. Brake and clutch pedal from a 280 3. A 225 Mm flywheel (I think either 225 or 240 will work) 4. Transmission 5. Shifter with offset curve from 280 (to replace the 280zx shifter) 6. Clutch line from master cyl to salve cyl. 7. Clutch kit off the web. Can someone verify that I can use a 225mm flywheel if the setup used to be 240mm? I threw away the old flywheel thinking I would get a fidanza, but instead i took a 225 mm fly to the machine shop and had it resurfaced, lightened and balanced. (sorry not to thread jack but i think it might help the fellow who started the thread) Ben

It Is available but its expensive I hear. Someone else here on the forums came up with a cheap alternative. I cant remember the thread, but the member has a silver 280z with early bumpers. Check out some threads regarding early bumper to late model swaps; you might find it.

Well I guess that solves it! Im pretty sure while installing I would have noticed where the thing goes just by looking for the signs of a bolt biting down on it. Thanks for the clarification help though guys. Ben

In what direction are you speaking of? should that spacer be touching the crank? sorry if the thread is seeming to be redundant. Ben
-
I think I have found info explaining where the spacer is supposed to go. This site was explaining it for a 300zx. http://www.importpartspro.com/ni30oemauflp1.html

Something tells me i did it wrong :cry2: oh well. Ive been driving my car for about 4 or 5 months like that so far and the only issues are rattle and a flywheel grind a few times. Ben Edit: I am reading through the FSM off of xenons site. I cant find a section explaining mounting the flex plate, or anything about the spacer for that matter.
-
i did set it up the other way Engine>crank>Flexplate>Washer/spacer>Bolts>Torque converter>Tranny. I was talking to someone else and they had me under the impression it might be the way you were saying proxlamus. Is there anyone out there to confirm this? Thanks Ben

Well since I was mating the engine with an auto trans there was no shaft to hold that bushing in.
-
I swapped a engine from a manual 280zx 2+2 into my Auto late 260z a while back ago. After some time I now have started to get a rattle upon acceleration. I was thinking that it might be the flywheel bolts backing out and rattling with the circular washer that the flybolts go through before they enter the autoflywheel and then into the crank. After looking at a thread I noticed that manual trans Zs have a bushing in the end of the crank. Is it possible that because i never removed this before installing the flywheel it could have fallen loose and made noise? here is a picture of the back of the 280 engine before I bolted on the automatic flywheel. P.S. I will be installing the manual from the ZX pretty soon once I buy a clutch kit. If nothing comes out of this thread I will have to get to bottom of this the hard way .

Turbo L6. Duh! Check out some of the most clean L6 setups and do what they did. Its powerful, cheap and classy. Ben

John C is that also the same for an auto late 260? Ben

some good looking wheels
COmputoman replied to sorealsosurreal's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I like the way those wheels look. I wouldn't mind getting a pair. In fact I just might do that when i have the extra dough. Ben -
I think it was more of the "destroying" the stunning G-nose to make it look like an average Z that was causing the tension in that thread . P.s. I also dont really think that the gnose looks that great either. If I had dibs on one for really cheap, already assembled, something tells I would start to like it a little more. Its mostly the price that makes me hate em.
