  1. thanks for that info wayne! thats my problem... i didnt shift through the gears... going to pickup a shifter monday and a new throttle cable assembly. by the way.. changed the distributor out because of the crack i told you about.. runs about the same i guess. but still it would have led to problems. i got the timing tape like you suggested, going to go see tyler tomorrow see if they have a timing light they can loan out.. dont know if they do that at that auto store or not. but thanks for your help! im getting pretty close to getting it. couldnt have done it without your help, and help from alot of other people on this board.
  2. thanks for the info. think maybe i should go down to a 160* thermostat? im running the JTR radiator. anyone with the jtr and a similar setup know what their temp runs avg?
  3. first question is.. can anyone suggest where to start my timing out at on 383 stroker SBC. stock heads w/2.02 intake 1.6 exhuast valves. keith black flattop pistons.. i believe its around 9.?.1 compression... 2nd question HOW do you hear when the engine is detonating with open headers? i hear what sounds a little like a tick or slap sound every couple seconds.. sounds like possible detonation... 3rd question i have a 180* thermostat and the engine (while breaking in) runs constant around 200* then drops down to maybe 185* and heats right back up is that normal for a 180* thermo?... 4th question if i put 8 quarts of fluid in a 700r4 rebuilt w/a new converter do i have to shift through the gears to get the fluid into the converter? for some reason the fluid ran up out of the stick... i DIDNT shift through gears though.. is that possibly why? thanks for any help in advance.. sorry so many questions
  4. I wouldnt' trust sanderson headers on THAT claim for SH*T! The set of Sandersons i ordered from JTR were by FAR the WORSE set of headers i have EVER ordered. I paid twice as much for them as an elcheapo ebay kinda and the ebay was better quality. They didnt clean them up for me at all.. still had metal shavings in them, burrs on the welds inside the flange, and the weld looked like SH*T. I'm highly upset with them considering i had to wait 1 1/2 months on them also. hell they should've been coated with PLATINUM and FLAWLESS for the time they took. Sorry for the rant, but i wouldnt trust that claim. I'd get felpro header gaskets that have the hook holes. if they blow you unbolt the header a little slide the gasket up.. slide a new one in. the holes are cut in half so they just slide down into place instead of taking the header all the way off... hope that helps.
  5. ok im back in town.. you're right about it not looking right in the front without the lip... and then the back doesnt look right if the front has the lip.. hmmm so now i have to add that lip in when i design my fenders.. kinda was wanting to get away w/o that. ah well.. this has been a GREAT ZX body design thread.. some really great ideas here. and some artistic work also. (you two know who you are)
  6. i was out of town this weekend as were you lol so havent messed with it..and as for the post about the return.. i've said like 3 times in this post i have a mallory 3 port (with return) fuel pressure regulator. so thats not the problem. and if you're free tyler as far as i know me and wayne are still up for this coming up weekend.. you're invited to come also if you're off.

  9. its the stock ZX tank and stock ZX pump that is mounted on the frame rail in the stock position. the fuel lines run stock all the way to just before the engine bay.. then i ran a line under the frame rail.. (out of the way of bottoming out and crushing of course) and then it goes up into the engine bay to my FPR then out of the FPR (mallory fuel pressure regulator) and into the fuel filter.. (glass see through kind designed for use with carbs) then out the filter into the pressure gauge.. then into the carb. ryan if we can get it right i bow to you the masta! lol. if you have a timing light that will help when you come too.. i was going to rent one but havent been able to get it running long enough and smooth enough to actually use one. also.. it STILL stinks bad and smokes bad smells of unburnt fuel.. possibly float is still stuck.. tried tapping the carb.. ah well.. im sure we can get it when you come over to help.. ill do the other small things that need to be done... (just to let you know i dont have a dash.. in the process of making a FG one)
  10. lol he already brings me tools... and also takes them and does what he wants with them... and now that i think about it..... my fuel gauge still isnt showing much pressure... when i pulled the zx engine l28 it was running a few secs then shutting off... maybe my problem is the fuel pump.. when i turn it on its not a steady stream... its more like continuous spurts. when i plug it off past the PSI gauge i can get a steady psi.. but while running to the engine i cant get a steady reading... i dont know... its aggravating... another thing my carb gasket was REALLY thin compared to what i call "normal" possibly it is thin enough that its allowing the carb to leak around the manifold
  11. there is the pickup filter... then there is the fuel pump.. then the Fuel pressure regulator... then the clear filter then the PSI gauge then the carb.. i may have to idle the carb up a bit.. thanks for the help though guys.. its appreciated.. i need to get a book on holleys i guess since this will be a regular driven car once it is running. i dont get to fool with the car as much as i want to. i could probably have the problem fixed right now... my 1 1/2 yr old is... lets just say not very cooperative lol wish he'd go to sleep now... wont leave my lap.. cant even put him down on the floor w/o crying.

  13. thats it man... that is IT... that is what i was thinking of.. stock look just wider.. the stock look is square and boxy thats what i wanted to keep... there she is guys... my future dream z... mike you nailed it man.. now is that a sexy ZX or what?? lol im probably going to widen the front a little also just to make it blend in the middle better but man... its amazing what a PC can do.. i knew what i wanted just couldnt EXACTLY picture it... but that is IT! what my z will look like in like... 10 years LoL nah.. maybe 1-2
  14. i rerouted new fuel line from just under the cab under the frame.. around the brake line.. then back up again to my FPR.. that way the headers weren't as close to the fuel line. i never bled the line.. just for some reason didnt think about it. i dont think i got ALL the air out the first time as the fuel filter isnt TOTALLY full of gasoline... i cleaned the gas tank around a month ago.. pump is in the stock location. its weird but all the sudden i got it to running right.. i unplugged the brake booster also though from the carb so THAT too could be a factor in why its now running right.. i KNOW bleeding the fuel line helped though because now it starts w/o putting gas directly in the carb. also. i dont have my throttle cable connected... could that be a reason its dying? maybe not enough pressure on the linkage or does that matter? if its getting correct fuel what else would cause it to die? would the choke not being connected be a reason? my dad has electric choke.. and doesnt have it wired up.. his runs fine.. mine is manual any difference there?

  16. i bought these a while back.. with tests on my car (not driving tests.. just sitting still) the lights arent really that great or bright.. OR blue... the light looks kind of normal... even w/the blue bulb.

  18. love the gto look mike! and yes that scoop is right on the look! only mine will be a tad taller just mainly for the dragster look. and if you look on www.zfiberglass.com at the SQUARE imsa type flares.. thats kinda what i want on mine only cuz the ZX is already square lol. but i DO like the GTO look... rounds the car more and doesnt give it the choppy look P.S. im glad to see a thread like this on a ZX this shows that possibly one could make a ZX as rounded and sporty looking as a Z. The ZX is sporty looking also... only its 80's looking sporty 80's were rough on some cars... lol take the nova for example *GAG* **ALSO** 260DET in that pic of miss canada... she has a camel toe... a BIG one.. lol
  19. lol i kinda feel like a real jack azz right now...got a new CLEAR fuel filter and i got to looking at my fuel filter... was no gas in it.. so im like well dang... possibly my fuel pump isnt running right (have it wired on same fuse my electric fan is on w/a 30 amp fuse... thought maybe my fan is pulling some juice from my fuel pump.. is this possible??) wired it straight to ign and turned it on w/a bolt plugged in the end of the line... no gas still... so i thought hey... bleed the line jack azz... the fuel filter filled with gas.. and i stuck it back on the car... the car ACTUALLY FIRED UP W/O POURING GAS IN THE CARB!! lol.. and it actually ran for a while w/o hitting the throttle.. but finally died.. think the line needs to be bled a little more. AND one more thing... i have a manual choke... what do i have to do to hook it up properly? could that be why the car shuts off after like 10 seconds. also could the timing be a reason it shuts off? or do you think the line still has a little air in it... PSI is 6lbs... AND actually didnt REEK of unburnt fuel for some reason.... lol
  20. hey david... if you've already got a welder... you're looking at like.. 50 bucks in materials if you want to keep your rims... thats w/o lowering the car too though.. this car would look AWESOME in real life
  21. no mirror... ummm i guess no vent... and follow the same style as the stock cowl.. only make it come up a few more inches.. so it looks kinda like all those famous 80's model mustang cowls lol... really like this car.. and im trying to download photoshop now so i can play some with dif ideas. thanks for the work mike!
  22. mike seems the darker colors "duller aka brown red purple" dont look as nice w/the mods.. dont know why... just isnt as appealing to me. the green gold and that blue look NICE though. what about a 4" cowl scoop if you have time?
  23. true about the side shot and the flares... but blue.. *DROOL* lol not tryin to aggravate ya or keep ya busy... if i could find a cheap or free link to photoshop i'd download it myself...
  24. i bet you could NEVER find one of those factory child jumpseats COZY.. BUT if you have sum fabrication skills... and can do interior stitching and all... you could make a replica... shouldnt be TOO hard.
