  1. What would make a neat 283 project is bore it 4" and offset grind the steel crank 3.1" from a 2" rod journal to a 1.88" honda journal. Get a set of used nascar honda journal carrillo's , they are usually 6.2" in length. Cut the deck to 9" and use a piston with a 1.25 ch. That would make a neat little 312 incher or 311.6 incher if you dont want to round up.
  2. BBC with big chief type heads go ahead with the 4 7 swap. SBC with convectional style heads save your money.
  3. With the solid axel and my little 414 my Z has run 1.15 60ft. On gas, one carb and no juice.
  4. The stock front suspension will work fine with your backhalf job. On my old backhalfed car I used the stock front suspension, steering, brakes ect. I put a home made strut brace across the front struts and that was it.
  5. Good job. Something to think about if you ever change out the rear end. Next time go with a shorter rear end housing. Use less backspacing on the rear wheels, makes the axels shorter and lighter. The real good thing about less backspacing other than the weight savings is it makes it much easier removing the rear tires. I used a 15 X 14 on my old back halfed Z and the wheel had a 6 1/2" backspacing, it was no fun removing them. The new Z has 3 1/2' backspacing and long travel shocks. Makes it a pleasure to remove the rears rather then a chore.
  6. They had both. Look at the seam. Wide, forged. Narrow, cast.
  7. There was none. at least not enough for the stock air cleaner. The 65 intakes were rather tall. The late model 72, 73, vetts had a flat intake that you could probably use a air cleaner with.
  8. Putting a BBC in a Z isn't that bad. I put a stock 396 and t-400 in a 71Z using the stock exhaust manifolds and not touching the firewall. A friend gave me a 65 wagon with the big block and 400 trans. I put it in just to see if it would fit. I used 65 truck mounts and 2 1/4" channel to bolt to the mount and set on the Datsun mount pad. It did look neat sitting in there but it wouldn't rpm like my small blocks. It only ran 12's at the track but it was a bone stock 396 station wagon motor.
  9. Use a early 327 small journal block and a small journal 283 crank. 4.00 bore with a 3.00 stroke makes a 302 or a 301.59 . If you have to bore the block .030 you wind up with a 306.
  10. With turbos and efi in the 800 to 1200 rwhp range you better be thinking about a purpose built race car with a tube frame. My car has a 95 inch wheel base up from 90 inch and things can get out of hand pretty quick with my suckie little small block. 8.40's in a short car is a ride. When the track is good it's a piece of cake but I have already had this car on the roof once. Don't feel like doing it again. One plus is that the new roof was 7 pounds lighter than the old roof. I run one carb and a glide so the power flow is pretty smooth but with a pair of turbos spooling up you may have your hands full. How fast are you wanting to go? There are new chassis certs below 8.50 now. ...Jon
  11. 71 240Z Scarab 327, 4 speed. 71 240Z Drag car 414 Donovan, glide. 03 Toyota Tundra 04 Toyota Corolla 53 Henry J, original.
  12. I run the headlight covers and the small rear deck spoiler on my Z . I also have a piece of lexan in the grill to help block off air flow there also. No front spoiler or air dam. Runs nice and smooth at 157 mph in the quarter.
  13. Lets kick that average back up. 49, 50 next month.

    Blew It Up!!!

Sorry you hurt the small block Ron. Time to put the Big Block back in it. With the twin 1050's it ought to shine. I just picked up a DaVinci dominator I am going to be trying it out at the Fuel and Gas finals November 1st & 2nd.
  15. Where is home sweet home ? You never know till you run it down the track. Is California your closest port ? If you are going to California I will be running in the Fuel and Gas finals at Famoso in my Z car in November.
  16. Ron is right. 15K won't get you close. If you want a fast drag Z car here it is. Z's are not like Camaros or Mustangs, they are for sale on every corner. I wish there was a nice Z car for sale like Rons when I built my car. Could have saved a lot of money.
  17. No need to crank it up in that GN. He needs to put it in a Z chassis that can handle it.
  18. Checked out the link. 8.50's . with a twin turbo motor. I could smoke his a$$ with my N.A. sbc Z car.
  19. Congrats. You know its all downhill from here.
  20. If you guys think a 4150 carb can flow 1040 I have a bridge in you may be interested in.
  21. A couple of tenths is kinda easy to get when you are only running 13's .
  22. Haven't heard from Ron Jones in a while. I hope he didnt sell his Z.
