  1. Cool thanks! I'm pretty sure I'm just going to get a stock OEM piece and return the solid front diff mount.
  2. Hey guys, I currently have a 1971 240z with an R180 differential. I had some pretty bad clunking coming from my rear end during shifts. So I removed the diff and found the stock front diff mount was a bit torn. So I ordered a billet front one from ArizonaZCar. I removed the stock one, installing the billet one with the offset screw toward the front of the car. Jacked up the rear diff and the front diff mount was completely mis-aligned with the crossmember. Ok, I just have to move the diff around right? After setting the diff down and jacking it back up(did this about 5 times) and I still had no luck. The diff simply sat too far forward, and it can't align with the crossmember. So I was thinking my memory might be wrong so I removed the diff mount and flipped it so the offset screw is toward the rear. At the time this seemed to be more logical. So I pushed the diff as forward as I can and had my brother jack up the diff. This time the diff seemed to be in a much more logical position. But it was still off by about half an inch, much closer than before. SO I called up Arizona Z Car and they told me that the offset screw is supposed to be toward the front of the car. OK, so I flipped it again, and tried getting the diff aligned about three more times. Still had no luck, the diff mount just sat too far forward. I made sure the top straps were not interferring with the diff alignment, and I studied all the books I had and had no luck. I'm very pissed, and have spent close to ten hours trying the re-install the diff. Can someone guide me to what I might be doing wrong? For those who have installed this diff mount, did it go smoothly or did you have to do something specific to get it to fit? I'm very clueless now and I'm beginning to think something might be bent. When I was originally removing the diff, I forgot to put a jack under the diff when I removed the front crossmember, and the diff swung down a bit and hit back of the diff hit the rear (don't know what you call it, I think dog legs?) thing that the back of the control arm attaches to. It wasn't a hard hit at all but would it cause something to go out of whack? Everything seems straight to the naked eye. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. -Armand
  3. Looking good dude! I'm wondering what your plans are for the car? Are you just getting it ready for the drag strip or you just want to have an insane daily driver.
  4. Thanks a bunch! That gets me a good idea on a couple things to check. Yes, I do have the Haynes Repair Manual along with "How to Restore a Datsun Z car" and a small blue booklet that fits in my glove box for basic repairs that came with my car. I tried studying the wiring diagrams but I couldn't really identify anything. I think my car might have been re-wired once in it's lifetime, but the original owner passed away and his brother-in-law I bought it from doesn't know squat about the car. I have TONS of wires under the dash that isn't connected to anywhere, can't be found in the wiring diagram, and to make it even worse all the wires are tightly bound together with heat shrink. Thanks for the help once again. I'll check out the relays and clean/check some more plugs tonight. If anyone else can chime in with some answers that would be awesome. Let's try and make this the ultimate turn signal/brake thread to help anyone with these problems.
  5. The 280 YZ's are very hard to beat. Runner up for me would be ZG flares. I just love black ZG flares, they add such a nice contrast to almost any colored Z.
  6. Hey guys, I recently had my dash lights, brake lights, and my turn signals go out in my 1971 240z. I know what your thinking, "Use the friggin' search button." Yes, I have and I read all the threads all about fixing brake lights. So here is a list of things I've already checked: 1.) Brake switch- I removed it, routed a 9v battery to it and checked the switch with my multimeter. Brake switch functions properly. 2.) All fuses in the fuse box have been replaced. 3.) The bulbs are perfectly fine, in both the dash and tail lights. Neither has filaments missing. Plus when I flip the emergency switch, the tail lights and lights in the dash come on so the bulbs are working for sure. 4.) I read in one of the threads about a plug with 16 wires on the steering column having corroded or bad connections. I couldn't find any plug with 16 wires but I disconnected all my plugs, checked them for corrosion or bad connections, and re-connected them. They are all perfectly fine. After doing this my dash lights started to work again. 5.) Someone mentioned to push the turn signal up and down with a little force and hold it there. I tried that and had no luck. I ended up blowing the turn signal mechanism's with an air compressor and cleaned everything thoroughly with no luck. Now in the other threads I have searched through, I always read "check your grounds." Can someone be more specific? Which grounds? Where? I also read a lot about checking the fusible links. I tried searching for ones that some people pointed out, but my wiring harness seems to be completely different from anyone else's, and couldn't find anything people were talking about. Can someone tell me how to test these fusible links, and which ones to check? Forgive me if I seem to be ignorant. I HATE dealing with electrical problems and I really really don't want to take it to my mechanic. I just bought my car a little more than a month ago and my parents always give me crap about how I won't be able to fix/install anything on it, and I would need to take it to the mechanic for every little thing.(I'm 16 years old) I already fixed every other thing in the car and don't want to hear any crap from my parents. So help me win. hahah Thanks in advance, -Armand
  7. Thanks for the info and pics guys. Greatly appreciate it. johnc, what was your opinion of the sound the M3 had with the end cap off?
  8. Hey guys, Before I say anything I want to let you guys know I searched the forums top to bottom and I couldn't find what I was looking for. I am considering getting a SuperTrapp muffler but I can't find any videos or sound clips of one on an L6. If anyone has a video it would be greatly appreciated. Pictures of it mounted would be really cool too. Also, can anyone identify what kind of exhaust this car is running? http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6465617191604514213&q=240z+turbo Is it just a straight pipe to the back? I would die to have my car sound like that. I don't care for the sound of the turbo, just the way it sounds when backing up. I don't mind it being loud, I only drive my car once in a while to school, and most of the time I drive in the canyons. My car is going to be made purely for canyons and some track days here and there. Thanks in advance, -Armand
  9. I'm pretty sure it's from MSA. Part number 50-1401. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7AD1/50-1401
  10. Awesome looking Z, very very different. BTW, you got a PM.
  11. I recently switched my original steering wheel to an aftermarket wheel. To me the smaller diameter made no difference, It actually felt easier when parked. The reason is the stock steering wheel is very thin and when you try to grasp it you can't do it tight because my fingers go around and touch the palm of my hand. The Grant wheel I got is smaller, but it's twice as thick, and it grips the palm of my hand much, much better, and my fingers don't go around and touch the palm of my hand.
  12. I don't know how you can even see whats in front of you with a cowl that ginormous.
  13. I just got my 1971 240z about a month ago for $5000. It's awesome! It's got a pretty new L28 motor w/ 5-speed tranny, plus the whole car was stripped down about 6 years ago, any rust found was patched up, and the entire body was painted. So it's in excellent body shape with a big dent in front, and for the most part mechanically sound. I think I got a good deal because anything that needs fixing isn't more than a couple hundred. Heres a pic:
  14. It's located about 15 minutes away from me. I think I'm going to go and test drive it for the hek of it. haha
  15. Why not just get the raceonusa hood? It's cheaper than a true carbon fiber/fiberglass hood, and it's basically a fiberglass hood with real carbon fiber around it. It's sorta like the best of both worlds.
  16. Wow that's freakin harsh man. That's just not right. I'm 16 years old and HAIRY as hell(had a beard when i was 12, and i currenty look like im 25) and have had my share of jokes, but DAMN, that's just messed up.
  17. The number/address is the same as the number/address on www.raceonusa.com. I talked with a raceonusa employee and he confirmed that that ad is theirs.
  18. I am also considering buying a carbon fiber hood, and I noticed this ad on craigslist.com for the raceonusa carbon fiber hoods. In this ad it shows the Datsun 240z cf hood listed for $349.99. I talked to raceonusa and they said when you order your hood, mention that ad and we will honor that price. So if you can save about $150. You should order it now before that ad expires. Btw, they are located in Ontario, so it's in the so cal area, and you will save that $150 shipping cost. Heres the link: http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pts/235639444.html Btw, they said when you make an order it will take about a week to make. You should also know this is not a 100% carbon fiber hood. It is a fiberglass frame with carbon fiber on it.
  19. olderthanme, it's going to be a dual purpose street/track car. Just focusing on handling handling and handling. I live in Calabasas, CA and there are some of hte best canyons in the nation 10 minutes away from me. Me and my buddies are always up there on the weekends versing WRX's, Mini's, Beemers, Porsches(always slow old people driving them, no offense old people ) Lotus's, bikes, and pretty much anything. What I really want to do is beat this guy I know, who will take on anyone in the canyons for $5,000. He just has a stripped 97 BMW 318 with some sticky tires. I just want to shut him up.
  20. I got a 240z, sort of. I'm 16 and the original plan was that I pay for the car/gas, parents take care of insurance. We'll they surprised me and payed for the car for Christmas. So more money to waste away on the 240! haha
  21. Awesome write up, just installed mine last weekend and it looks awesome.
  22. Many people use lawn edging on the bottom of their air dams. They hold it with screws and/or rivets.
