  1. OK, I got a video. What is the best way to post it up. youtube? It is only 5.5Mb should I just put it in the download section here on hybridz? You guys tell me, I am new to video stuff, and BTW you have to make the video pretty small or it looks grainy, but hey its a video so its better than nothing
  2. Sounds like megasquirt never turns on the pump. Check the voltage at the relay board to make sure megasquirt is not sending a signal. Then you have to roll back figure out why megasquirt doesn't start up correctly. It should run the fuel pump for a second or two then stop until a timing event occurs (cranking engine, running engine).
  3. its going in my 34 pontiac. I am trying to get the chassis and drivetrain finished. Got to install the four link rear suspension and ford 9 inch rear end, rebuild the manual transmission, fab the engine/tranny mounts and get a driveshaft made. Sounds like a lot, but I have all the parts and my plan is finally worked out so it shouldn't take but a few weeks. The 9 inch rear has disc brakes and I have mustang-II front end, so I will end up with disc brakes all the way around.
  4. I don't mind the ads. I noticed it yeasterday when I brought up hydridz and wasn't logged in. I use all the other car forums out there that have tons of ads and it has never bothered me, the information is there and is easily accessible. just my 2 cents
  5. Yeah, it the old B&M superjection setup. The throttle body is bored out to about 1000cfm. It has port type injectors (150lb/hr) Basically autonomics sells the throttle bodies and fuel rails now. My intake manifold supports port injection, but I was scared to run the supercharger dry.
  6. King of redkneck engine test stands maybe I have a box fan setting on a bucket of oil to cool the radiator and a bungee cord holding the alternator to tension the belt No breather so when the engine is cranking before it gets a good vacuum fuel is popping out the top of the throttle body, yeah my wife was a little scared to stand next to it. I had her crank it over with the pushbutton while I operated the throttle. She had to stay while I ran it so she could cut the ignition toggle switch if anything went wrong. After I shut it down she walked out of the garage with her hands over her ears.
  7. On the test stand it works awesome, but we will see when it actually goes in the car. I am sure that running with the supercharger is going to alter the characteristics of MAP based AE on this engine. VIDEO?? It looks like my friend will be over Saturday morning to shoot some video of it running. Oh, and you guys probably noticed that the engine is not running EDIS yet. Yeah, I thought I better take two steps and get fuel only running first. This turned out to be a very good call since I couldn't get a tach signal at first and found the backwards opto.
  8. After I noticed that I installed my opto isolator backwards everyhting fired right up. I am running with no TPS, it is connected but just sets at no throttle position. I turned on MAP based accel. Notice Megasquirt is just tossed on top of the engine. How does it run, I can't even describe it (open headers, supercharger, EFI, instant throttle response). I was running around like a little kid, my wife thinks I've lost it I am trying to borrow a video camera for tonight and I will post some video of it running. EDIT: low quality video link
  9. I added the link to this thread in the must read/useful links sticky so it will be easy to find
  10. just to follow up on wideband sensors: AFAIK the only thing slated that will just use the wideband sensor directly is Ultra Mega Squirt which uses the precision wideband controller from Bowling and Grippo. As stated a controlled is always needed with a wideband sensor for the heater and pump. Follow the link: http://www.megamanual.com/PWC/
  11. Something that has bothered me for a long time now is that when I wrote the install sticky guide MSnS_Extra code didn't even exist, neither did the v3.0 board or MSII. I have kind of been hoping that someone would do a better writeup maybe just cutting and pasting a few sections from my original stuff and then we could trash the old writeup. Maybe some people worry about stepping on toes or something else, but I am here to tell you that I am all about helping out and it doesn't bother me one bit if we replace that original install guide. No hard feelings or any of that, the problem is that I can't really do it justice because I have not used a V3.0 board, I don't even have a z car anymore, I haven't used MSII at all. So, anyone that wants to put together a better writeup feel free to use any part of the original in any manner you want, even if it is to say this is a bad way to do things.
  12. Yeah, it was a longggg day. Prox had a non turbo engine at the time that was turbo'd so we ran into a couple problems. Not having the CHTS was one, so we had to add a GM coolant temp sensor. The other was swapping over from NA dizzy to Turbo dizzy. That was interesting, swapping shafts, timing correctly, dropping oil pump, removing dizzy spacer, etc etc. On my talon I made a conversion connector and just plugged MS straight into the factory harness. That install only took a few hours, and all of that time was spent trying to get the CAS timing set and finding out that I forget to set MS for my injector size. Why won't it start and run correctly?? Oh yeah, injector sizing is off by 200%, oops.
  13. That is really a tough question, but I would say 2 weeks should be plenty of time to get it installed if you work like I do (only a couple nights a week and then weekends). A couple weeks allows for a lot of research and dealing with a few problems.
  14. yes there was an addition from Tony D. Just look through, it is highlighted in a quote box.
  15. did you check the map sharing sticky above for a similar setup?
  16. my friend bought a rebuild kit from http://www.gpopshop.com/rebuilding.html It was terribly difficult to get the turbo apart, specifically the turbine bolts. Then he ended up breaking the new carbon seal. It safe to say that I will not be rebuilding any of my turbos. But it has been interesting to watch him try.
  17. yeah, I bet that doesn't have overheating problems on the street
  18. I have put megaquirt on turbo engines (L28et, 4g63) and V8 chevy engines. How hard it will be is not an answerable question. If you are good at following instructions and troubleshooting and are familiar with the basic components of a fuel injection system then it shouldn't be hard.
  19. wow, this is an old thread. Four years later the only update I would make to this is that I really like the turbo swap because I want a daily driver car and the turbo is great for that. Allows stock driveability, good mileage and still have the power on tap. I am afraid a built V8 will toss mileage to the wind. But it is what makes you happy that is important.
  20. You would think I would know this by now, but I don't. It says starting in 87 the 305 and 350 got the roller cam and also center bolt valve covers. So is it safe to assume that all TPI engine with center bolt valve covers have the roller cam? I searched around to see if anyone made that claim but didn't find it.
  21. Well, the wife has had me busy doing construction for the last few months. I haven't been able to do any car work, so what I did was sell off a whole bunch of stuff not car related (street bike, arcade machines, kids etc etc) and used the dollars to pick up a couple more projects. That way when the construction work is finished in the next month I will have plenty to work on. Anyone is the area have an LS1 or Lt1 for sale?
  22. Excellent, thanks for the reply Matt. Its good to see someone running that way. I think I will use your idea to set the TPS voltage constant with a resistor and try to run without TPS just on this big block setup.
