  1. yeah, the install guide calls out to use the CHTS, however there isn't one on NA engines like Ryan had IIRC, so some people will be forced to use another sensor.
  2. Not saying I'm a good person, but I won't be leaving until I'm kicked out:) I know too many people here and this site still caters to all engine makes. Its too demoralizing to read other forums on the net with all the typical BS. And I haven't ruled out another z car from my future.
  3. I ran mine just before the TB in the IC pipe.
  4. I guess you could say that I switched cars, but I didn't plan it out that way. It started by selling the 240z when I didn't absolutely have to and now here I am with the Eagle Talon TSI. After the fact it makes a lot more sense to have the eagle. AC, PS, nice interior, AWD, lots of potential, 4 seats (this was important to my wife so we can all go into town), etc. I like to play with the turbo engine more than a V8 so this car fits better into my life. The turbo 240z was a lot of fun to build and drive though.
  5. use the oil pump from the NA. IIRC, the oil pump shaft just sets in there, easy to swap. Just timing it right or you have to move your spark plug wires around the cap to match what you end up with, then that just gets confusing the next time you work on it.
  6. I changed the sticky format and updated the must read thread links. That includes a link to this thread, so even though it isn't sticky, the link will always be around and easy to find. Let me know if that doesn't work for someone.
  7. Yes that will work, we did the same mod to Ryan's car. You have to get the oil pump shaft from the 83 also(has a star pattern instead of slot). Drop the oil pump change shafts(probably have to drop the sway bar), remove the aluminum spacer under the NA dizzy. That should be about it. Watch the intake valve on #1 to make sure you on the compression stroke. The rotor on the NA dizzy should line up at the #1 post and then you can swap and make the rotor on the 83 line up at the #1 post.
  8. Its going to be a couple weeks before it hits the road. The timing belt was loose and it slipped so the valves are bent. I got it pulled down to the belt tonight and confirmed, I can slip the belt around the crank gear by hand, its that loose. Rockers are also way loose on the intake so the valves are toast. If the pistons are good and the head can be rebuilt it will be back up in no time. I needed something to keep things from getting boring, ugh......
  9. the water from that area heads out to the turbo, I know because I helped set up that part and we made sure of it. We didn't want hot water from the turbo hitting the sensor first.
  10. At this point I just do what I want and talk to the sheriff when they get called by the neighbors. I've only been hauled into jail once so I guess its not too bad.
  11. If threads strike you as must read or sticky type please PM me and I will add them in here to consildate. I did this to keep from getting too many stickies because there are so many good posts. 12. I agree, no one at this point should be installing megasquirt without using MSnS to provide ignition control. It is a freebie for the spark part, it has been proven by many, many people and it is documented for installation.
  13. Also found out after I picked up the car that it has a palm pilot with datalogging software and data cable is installed. Fuel pressure gauge is also installed. Man, he gave up at the wrong time, he had everything ready to go. Pics
  14. You guys have it right on wasted spark. I really don't know on the 3RZ engine. Worst case look at a way to mount the EDIS wheel, but that can be a pain. I bet you can get it to work with the wheel decoder code.
  15. Bernard, that is cool. 20psi here I come I'll try to get some pics tonight, it is red so that already makes it faster than 90% of the cars out there. heh heh
  16. read through all the replies on this post it will answer your question http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=107106
  17. I'm picking it up today and then I can get busy figuring out why it isn't running.
  18. It sounds like you have a pretty good handle on MSnS. My question: are you buying a V2.2 or V3 MSI board, just curious to keep track of how many people are getting V3. I don't see a reason for anyone to by the 2.2 anymore, but tell me wahat you are thinking.
  19. You are just confused on the definitions, it is easy to do CAS = crank angle sensor or maybe cam angle sensor to some? VR = variable reluctor ( steel star magnet, look in the bottom of a GM HEI dizzy)This would be like a 77 or so 280z dizzy Optical = optical sensor like 82,83 280zx turbo (uses a wheel with slots that cuts the light beam) This is a very accurate trigger, the same mechanism is used in industrial robotics to postion robot arms. Hall sensor = Flying magnet (magnets glued on crank or somewhere, similar to VR) Correct me on the definitions because I haven't researched to give a good answer on Hall vs VR
  20. The biggest problem I see with running late model engines is that MSnS can't do more the 4 coils, so COP systems will not work with 8 coils. You might have to downgrade the ignition system a little to wasted spark. Other than that any engine should be doable. Its always a question of trigger source. Some engines have some funky trigger sources that may not be supported, but almost everything is supported nowadays.
  21. Was that just running with stock ECU and injectors? I haven't done any research yet to see where the stock parts run out of steam. Since it is a MAF system it should be pretty easy to up boost until injectors are the limit.
  22. MSnS is what I'm thinking around summer time. Get it running first and drive it a little. I didn't realize he had purchased all of this stuff and didn't install it. It comes with the following parts: already installed: EVO III 16G turbo EVO III exhaust manifold Walbro 255 fuel pump not installed yet: nice brand new 3" intercooler boost controller and install kit re-wire kit for fuel pump to boost voltage K&N filter and 3" intake kit boost gauge and pod mount ball bearing shifter kit K&N valve cover breather filter All the goodies to hit the pavement with 300hp I'm thinking.
