  1. I forgot to mention that it lost power and stopped running over the course of a week, that is why he decided to sell. It should be fun to play with
  2. A guy I work with owns this, it is one owner, 130K. I worked on it last year and put on a new turbo and ported exhaust manifold. It is in really nice shape. The guy is older and not really interested in it. $900, it seemed like it would be fun to tinker with
  3. I am becoming a little verclempt, talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic: over-excited body kit youngsters vs. classic mustangs with RB engines, same mentality?. Discuss. Sorry, I couldn't resist bringing two worthless threads together. Maybe this thread will explode.
  4. I used the fan on v2.2 board, I would also expect it to work the same on v3, let us know.
  5. That is true, but you can have a small cam with forced induction and I have to play with a supercharger some time. It will also be a difference of making 500hp at 4500 rpm with blower versus NA making 500hp at maybe 5800.
  6. I installed the small NPR like you show. I got it for $60, that is why I went with it, oppurtunity. I ran it at 14psi boost and was very happy with the power I made. Gtech showed 250whp. You pretty much have to cut the radiator support to use that IC.
  7. I agree with that statement, and what made me choose roots on big block for my rod is 3 things: 1. turbos on 454 would have been too much power for my goal(500 goal) 2. BBC with blower looks awesome, like you all say 3. torque from 1500 to 4500 will be a lot of fun on the street and 454 will live a long life seeing only low revs And if I don't like turbos can go on as it will be fuel injected and computer controlled spark. And also because I want to play with a computer controlled roots setup, I would never do it if I had to run carbs,
  8. I was able to get a garrett T3/T4 off ebay new rebuilt for $400, but I made sure it was the real deal before bidding.
  9. I'll be another one to put the 454 with roots on the dyno. Expecting 500whp. I built this engine for low rev,4500rpm. I am expecting 650tq all across the board. I think it goes without saying that all kinds of people don't put down what they expect because there cars aren't tuned right. That is what all guys say that aren't running a big block, heh heh somebody has to raz you guys
  10. Some radiator systems hold 17 pounds of pressure. Even a low pressure system holds 7 pounds. I like that better than the home depot toilet couplers. Hot rodding is about trying out cheap stuff and being broke down on the side of the road if it doesn't work, thats the fun.
  11. I put the saab 9000 on for a few months until I came across an NPR for $60. Do it right the first time doesn't always work with the pocket book The saab 9000 was really easy to install because it lines up with the holes, so it wasn't like I was spending tons of fabricating time that would have to be re-done once I got a better IC. But if the cheap IC you pick up requires a lot of fabricating to install, then I would think twice like Yasin says.
  12. ok, you have to tell us what it was so the next guy with the same sympton that reads this thread has a chance.
  13. The 82 and 83 zxt distributors use an optical unit to trigger the ECU, so use the "hall/opto" setup option. Ready through the sticky, even if it is old information it answers a lot of basic questions like this. Good luck.
  14. It shouldn't be too much of a problem to use your NA disributor. Just make sure that you have an amplifier on the input side of megasquirt because the trigger signal from your NA dizzy (variable reluctor) will be a small amplitude. This is where you can use a 4 pin GM HEI module to amplify the signal so megasquirt gets a reliable trigger. I am assuming that your NA dizzy is not a points setup I haven't worked with anything but the turbo dizzies so I am not knowledgable about the NA versions(points vs. electronic) Then as the others said weld up you dizzy so there is no more mechanical advance mechanism. Rotor and shaft are solid. The last piece is to phase the rotor to the cap posts correctly so it doesn't get too far away through the entire advance range. On a turbo dizzy this end of the rotor is physically wider to make this phasing easier to accomplish. Some of this may not make sense right now, but it will as soon as you start through the process. There are some really good posts I have dug up on msefi.com that show with pictures how to get the cap and rotor phased correctly when welding up the mechanical advance. Let me know if you run into problems there, maybe I can find them again.
  15. When I first installed megasquirt on the 350 engine with TPI we had a problem like this and it was caused by the spark jumping posts in distributor when timing would get advanced revving the engine. it would run pretty good and then advance would reach a certain point and pop, pop, pop. This was fixed by phasing the ditributor. Could it be that something has slipped on the dizzy drive shaft or in the top part at the rotor causing a rotor phgasing problem like the one we had?
  16. I second what Timz says. I have done that on 2 different MS installs now. Fouled the plugs getting idle and priming pulses set up correctly.
  17. The notes are good, the more people that add a writeup like this, the more unique installs we can cover. I just had one question in relation to this sentence: If you are using the 83zxt distributor it will be using an optical sensor. At first that led me to believe you had set up your own crank sensor with a hall sensor (magnet glued on flywheel or damper). Just curious what you are doing for the trigger input.
  18. the first thing to catch my attention on that site: http://www.dragtimes.com/Datsun-1200-Timeslip-7484.html
  19. MSII would work fine with a chevy V8. I know any wideband will hook into MSnS_Extra (which does not use MSII, it uses MSI version 2.2 or 3.0 board). Maybe someone else knows if widebands hook into MSII?
  20. I didn't realize that you were talking about the tach in dash. Dumb me, I automatically thought you meant the tach in Megatune. oops
  21. which version of the extra code did you try? Be carefule to re-check all settings in the extra code after loading it.
  22. And I thought this would be a MegaSquirt thread....
  23. wait until F&F3 comes out, this thread will really take off. Did you see how fast that mustang was with the RB in it....
