  1. I like aluminized steel pipe because I can weld it, therfore making any type of custom IC piping really cheap for me and it does not rust if left unpainted.
  2. That was posted on Feb 15th, so it looks like it is still 3 weeks out before everything is officially released. MSnS_Extra does everything I need for now.
  3. It was my take that widebands are for trying to avoid ping, if you want to tune by getting ping and then backing off you shouldn't need one. We'll be waiting for the pics of melted pistons, heh heh Seriously, they help with tuning all areas of engine load and give you some base to tune from, ping could also be your base. EGT could be the base, or all of them if you can afford more equipment. Ping seems to be the worst one to rely on because you may cause damage before you are dialed in. I am just trying to validate my thinking and the dollars I spent on wideband,
  4. It still died the first time this morning, went lean. ASE is set to 25% right now so I will start raising that in 5% increments, but leaving 30 seconds as the time. I have the soft and hard rev limiters set, but I have not tried lowering them so I could test it out. I am using the stock 280zxt bosch type air regulator for fast idle, it only requires a 12 volt signal when the key is turned on. My engine temp this morning when I tried the cold start was 39 deg F
  5. One of the last things I needed to work out was my cold starting. I had an issue when the car sets overnight it would always start up fine the next morning, but then die because ASE(after start enrichment) didn't last long enough. I think I have this fixed now, but will find out for sure tomorrow morning. In the MSnS_Extra code you can now change the ASE setting to use seconds instead of cycles. The problem was that you only had about 240 or so cycles you could use. I now set my ASE to last for 30 seconds after reading some posts about this on msefi. Yet another reason to use the Extra code.
  6. I was scared so I am running more like 11.5:1 under boost, 15.5:1 for cruise and around 13:1 for part throttle. Around 13:1 for idle also.
  7. That sounds like a good deal. I think its easier for most people to get a kit like that so you have the handful of components that are hard to find locally.
  8. Looks like the time has come. I am ready to order two megasquirt setups. One is for my supercharged 454 and the other is for a TPI small block. I am going to order and build both at the same time. I had entertained the idea of ordering and building units for people on the board that may be intimidated with the ordrering process and finding some parts such as nylon screws, enclosures, dropping resistors etc. The thing is that the pre-assembled units you can buy for $249 are very nicely priced. I could only offer to assemble the units for $200 (save you $50), but you will still have to: 1. cut the end plates of the enclosure 2. screw the two mosfets to the enclosure end plate 3. provide your own LED grommets if you want them 4. connect vacuum tube to the MAP sensor yourself (where the pre-assembled untis already have a bulk head connector for that) If anybody would be interested let me know, but I would suspect for the extra $50 you would probably go with the other pre-assembled units. A couple things I could offer is to load settings for my current setup and test the unit on my car. Not sure if that would benefit many people. My soldering skills are very good. The units would also be tested on the stimulator. This time I may try to stock up on dropping resistors so I can at least offer those to people on the board.
  9. That makes sense. I just wondered why it wouldn't fit if you were making a custom one.
  10. Just for reference my 2.5" dowpipe fits in my 73 240z with BW T5 tranny using 2 45 degree bends. I didn't have to grind fins.
  11. As far as I know with extra code you can have two maps in the ECU that you switch between based on some other input. For example, nitrous. When you activate nitrous the ecu switches itself to the second map that delivers more fuel. No reason you couldn't set up a button if you wanted that went to the computer and allowed you to switch between two maps, if you needed that. This is the kind of stuff that will get you into to unexplored territory, let us know how it works.
  12. The 4 pin HEI module controls dwell. 7 pin HEI does not. Nissan module???? MSnS code does not control dwell, so..... MSnS_Extra code can control dwell, but that function is experimental. My suggestion, use either code you like, use 4 pin HEI module and know that dwell is controlled, unless you like to experiment with this stuff
  13. 3. Yes, split the injectors into groups of 3 and use both output 1 and 2 like you say. 4. 5 to 6 ohm dropping resistors will work fine. Digi-Key sell 5.7 ohm 25 watt. 5. I don't think you can tune the spark section in megatune 2.25, you would either need to use megatuness which is a special megatune just for spark settings or use a newer megatune version like megatune225b331 which allows you to cahnge the ini file settings to tell megatune you are running MSnS then it will let you adjust spark. I may be wrong so check out the megatune forum on http://www.msefi.com
  14. 3973456N web didn't turn up anything, just one hit and no info on application. It is a large flywheel and the disc with it measures 11.875" It does not have a counterweight. Tried the local flywheel shop, but they couldn't help.
  15. I have no idea what that statement means. Once you have your fuel maps tuned close enough to the actual engines volumetric efficiency, then a wideband can be used so the ECU adjusts itself.
  16. I wish I would have noticed this post yesterday, I would have sold you mine really cheap. I listed it on ebay for $2 and 3.50 shipping. Maybe you can still get it cheap if you want a controller like Yasin posted. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=46096&item=7951550976 Also, when I changed to having my ECU control the fan I could not get the car to idle up to temp for the fan to come on (during this winter). I had to rev the engine for a few minutes to get the temp up to test the fan. In the cold weather it just doesn't warm up past the thermostat temp.
  17. Tony D. is using the 81 sensor with megasquirt. There is a quote from him that I added into the sticky about setting it up.
  18. I thought about this issue some more and this is weird because I sometimes leave my setup powered on with the engine not running while I change tons of settings and I have never had a problem. I am now running MSnS_Extra021u and having no problems.
  19. It is a known problem that MSnS will burn out HEI modules if the key is left on and the engine is not running. I think this is fixed in the MSnS_Extra code.
  20. Check this thread, I got started down two threads with the same question. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=98165 Also, I will be running megasquirt. It looks like I will go throttle body injection. But I also want the megasquirt to control ignition timing. I can't wait to get this running. Should fire up in March. The heads are in the machine shop now. It will start life in my truck because that is the only place to put it now, but who knows in the future. Maybe it wil end up in my 34 pontiac.
  21. I went ahead and ordered a throttle body with injector bosses so I can run four 80 pound injectors and I'll just plug the multi port injector bosses on the manifold. Then I don't have to worry about the cooling issue.
  22. I take it the eaton chargers must be built to be dry because they are used in port injected set ups. Apparently the holley/weiand/B&M stuff is not. That is directly from Holley that they recommend fuel through the charger even with the teflon strips in the 250 charger like I have.
