  1. Hey guys. We're stripping the old head and manifolds down, getting ready for the Rebello head, T3/T4, etc. Was hoping to use the stock WG actuator, but the different size of the compressor housing means the actuator won't work as is. I searched and didn't find anything and I am a real noob at this stuff, so be gentle. What are my options? 1) Modify the stock actuator? 2) Buy an internal actuator (I think that's what it's called) that is made for the T4 compressor? 3) Switch to an external WG? 4) Something I haven't thought of We hope to start putting things back together tomorrow (I know, not great planning on my part) and it's tough getting parts in Calgary. I'd probably have to get it shipped from the Excited States. Oh yeah, if anybody has an actuator or WG they want to sell that will fix my problem, and we can ship it FedEx and get it here asap, I'm open to that option. Markham
  2. And kudos to you for giving that guy some props. We have a similar law in Alberta and they are starting to hand out tickets if you don't obey it. If you stay in the lane next to the emergency vehicle you are supposed to slow to 60 kmh. Most people in my experience follow the rules. They had to do something, there have been a couple of cops killed because they were writing somebody up on the side of the road and some jackass hit and killed them. ...and I'm glad you think 20 mph over the limit is just "a little too fast." I've had an officer chew my butt for less than that. LOL
  3. I've been thinking of installing a high flow cat. Anybody have an opinion if this will be quieter? Or no effect at all?
  4. I've got a spare $20 I'll throw in.
  5. For anaybody who hasn't seen it, Bo (ktm) has a great set up. Definitely the model for me. And a beautiful engine bay! Bo, FYI, took the IC piping apart and found several leaky connections. After we're finished installing the head etc., we're welding up a steel pipe system...keep those d**n couplers to a minimum.
  6. *Engine: L28ET stock internals. Rebello prepped head with mild Iskey cam, bigger SS intake valves, full race port; Lonewolf ported intake manifold *Turbocharger System: Garrett T3/T04E 50 trim w/ .63 a/r housing (ceramic coated, ball bearings); downpipe (3 in.), stock wastegate, aluminum bar and plate IC, *Fuel Injection: Wolf V500 ECU, 450cc Supra injectors, Pallnet fuel rail, Walbro 255 lph pump; 60 mm TB *Exhaust System: 3" custom mandrel bent aluminized pipe, Dynamax muffler *Boost: 10 psi to start with. Won't go more than 15. *HP unknown at this time. Hoping to get around 300 hp at 10 psi. Next year (when new budget kicks in) looking at meth injection, maybe a more aggressive cam, coil packs and that's about it. This is my DD so it has to be dependable.
  7. I don't blame you for being upset/worried. May is a long time ago in terms of a sale where you've already sent him $$. I just contacted Paypal today about a guy that was supposed to send me 6 injectors and clips and it's now 3 weeks. I've talked to him once, but on his cell phone and it was like he answered without looking at caller ID and was sorry he did. Lied about receiving $$ etc. Whole things stinks. Sometimes you just know you've been ripped off, sometimes it's hard to tell. Hope you get your stuff....that's a lot of stuff and probably a lot of $$ to be out.
  8. Rafe, I thought the same thing. I specifically told the guy who did my 3" exhaust I wanted a bad ass sound...and I got what I asked for. I love driving it around town. But even a couple of hours on the highway and it's just too much. Prox's idea of a cutout is a perfect compromise. Loud when you want to be loud, quiet when you need it....like when the wife is in the car.
  9. Derek, Summit has an electric cut out valve I was thinking of using. I think it was around $240. I was thinking of doing the very same thing, glad you guys posted. Mama bear hates the noise and even though I love the rumble aroud town, a 3" exhaust REALLY wears a guy down after 15 hours on the interstate. Prox, if you get the second muffler installed, please post with the results. And what do you think will be the effect on performance?
  10. Rattmuff, check out my sig, that will be a good start. And kudos to you for being polite about the search button advice. My wife's family is Swedish, such nice people. Anyhoo...rule of thumb is you can get around 250+ hp with the stock ECU, injectors etc just by installing an intercooler and boost controller and running around 12 psi. After that it starts to get expensive. I've taken the route of trying to make the engine flow as much as possible: head work, ported intake mani etc. I'm hoping to make 300+ hp at just 10 psi. Then, as time goes on, I can tweak the system and slowly bring up the boost. Reading posts on this forum, it seems like folks want to make big hp as quickly as possible and sometimes they wind up breaking things, e.g. blowing head gaskets. I thought I'd try a more incremental approach since my car is my DD. It's worked for me so far and I'd recommend it. You get to drive your car a lot more instead of working on it all the time. Good luck with your build, keep us posted.
  11. Trevor, Calgary club show is included with a big car show (can't remember the name of it) toward the end of August (third or fourth weekend). C'mon down pardner!!
  12. Go Trevor!! Take pics and email some so I know what I missed!! LOL Hey Dave, I work in Long Beach all the time, quite a few customers and distributors there....I'll drop you a line for a coffee or beer next time I'm in town (late September).
  13. Thanks Dave, can't make it this weekend. Sorry you can't make it out this way, maybe Trevor can make use of them. Other guy to contact is Easyguy71 at www.zcar.com. Hope I'm not too late.
  14. What are you looking? Not what it sounds like I hope....LOL Was in Edmonton today, just got back. Do you need parts? Work on the car? PM me at markham@patch-marketing.com if it's urgent and I can help.
  15. Yeah, any idea for a delivery date? We start installing new head etc next week, I'll hold off on final assembly if I know the header is coming...otherwise it's the stock mani for me.
  16. Check out the mods in my sig. With the stock ECU I was making around 250 hp. Car had plenty of kick. Only mods were manual boost controller and intercooler and 3" exhaust. Easy to do, cost maybe $1,000.
  17. Just a quick update guys; got the intake manifold back from James. I have a 60m TB. Just waiting for the Supra injector clips...bought a set, guy is a week late getting them to me, starting to get nervous, we'll see. Should start installing next week. I'll post some pics and occasional update as we go. Hope to have the car ready to drive by August long weekend.
  18. Well, no one's chiming in, so I'll give it a whirl. The mods you mention won't increase the hp by much, if at all. You're going to be making about 150 at the wheels, give or take. The rule of thumb is 1 hp per injector cc. I think the NA injectors flow 168 cc...good to 168 hp approximately. Therefore, your stock injectors should be fine. Just to give you an idea...the stock turbo injectors flow 268 cc. My mostly stock set up probably puts out around 225, maybe 240 hp. So I was fine. In a couple of weeks I'm installing a high flowing Rebello head, T3/T4 turbo etc. I hope to make 350 hp. Now i need bigger injectors, so I'm going with the 440 cc Supra injectors. Hope this helps. This is the third or fourth thread in the past couple of weeks where guys want to increase injector size on NA motors without doing anything other mods. Is it something in the water?
  19. 280zcar, that is exactly what I was looking for and exactly the fenders I'm thinking of buying. Though I might opt for rectangular lights. Dragonfly, PMed you about your Camaro lights.
  20. The big issue for me is the small amount of space to mount a headlight. It would have to be rectangular and no more than 4" +/-. That's not a lot of room. Anybody know of any aftermarket or OEM lights that would fit the bill?
  21. That is exactly how I thought it would have to be mounted. Which headlights did you use? Aftermarket? And being road legal would be an issue for me, since I travel in both the USA and Canada with the car. Just out of curiousity, why would it be illegal? If the headlights throw enough light and they are adjustable so they don't blind oncoming traffic, wouldn't that be enough? I know nothing about this subject, was just wondering.
  22. Hey guys. I searched but couldn't find a relevant thread. Someone is selling road racer fenders with no headlights and I like the look. But it means the headlights would have to be re-located to the grille. I've got a 73 bumper on my 77, so very little room to work with. Has anyone used aftermarket lights or adapted another OEM style into the grille? I'm ok with removing the grille entirely if necessary. Any suggestions welcome and pics would be great if you got em. Thanks in advance for the help!
  23. I'm very interested in this thread. In a couple of weeks I'll be installing a REbello head that now flows 209 cfm at 25psi. And just received my Lonewolf Perf. ported and polished intake mani that James figures will flow 270 cfm per runner. Got the 60mm TB too. So I'm good on the intake side. But what about exhaust? At a minimum I'll match the manifold to the gasket, open things up a bit. With a 3" exhaust is the exhaust manifold going to be the bottleneck in this system? Should I port the mani more?
  24. My 77's not a rat rod, but I liked an earlier post that said rat rods were kinda reaction against too many pretty show cars. That's how I feel. The car's got Rustoleum white paint at the moment, gonna change to black in the next year or so. I'm toying with a fabbed whale tail spoiler. I'm looking for a company that can make custom steel wheels with baby moon hub caps (I'll powder coat them black). I guess the look I'm going for is "industrial." Lots of guys in the Calgary oil business have Beemers and Porsches or 350zs...then drive them like my grandmother. My car looks like crap but goes pretty good...and once the Rebello head and T3/T4 go on this summer, will be even better. But it won't look much better....
  25. Wow dude, that stuff always happen in the most inconvenient spot. Which town were you near? You must be working for Cameco....I consulted for them back in the 90s when I lived in Prince Albert. Which mine are you working at? Are there many AB guys working there? I know lots of SK guys that commute to Fort Mac to work in oil, you're the first one I've heard of that commutes to SK. Wish I had a spare head gasket for you. Only got the one for my Rebello head and need it right away. Have you tried Jim Karst in Calgary? He's got tons of parts and I'll bet he has a head gasket. Which head and block are you running? He's home all this week, I can ask him for you. PM me at markham@patch-marketing.com.
