  1. Transverse mounted engine. Looks like they took an FWD unit out of a Maxima or I35 and planted it in the rear.
  2. I'd jump over to one of the LS1 forums - like http://www.ls1tech.com and do a search there - or take a chance on a flame and just ask the question about the block identification.
  3. Just to muddy the water a little bit - about 25% of the 2001/2002 F-body LS1's also had LS6 blocks which have some nternal bracing that makes them stronger as well as having the LS6 intake. For what it's worth, my stock '98 Camaro LS1 dyno'd at 311 rwhp when I had a single 2 1/2" exhaust on it. That's about 365 flywheel hp.
  4. I have a '77 with the MSA kit. I removed the front shocks because they were easy to access. The rears were much more difficult so I just drilled a hole in the bottom of the shocks to let the oil out and compressed them. The rear cover fit over the top of them fine.
  5. When I was a kid a woman advertised a one year old cadillac in the newspaper for $50. A 17 yr old kid got it. The womans husband had died and his will stated that the car - or the proceeds from its sale - was to go to his mistress. Evidently the wife figured that's about what the mistress was worth.
  6. Do you pull your air from in front of or behind the radiator? Do you have emission controls that pulls crankcase air into the intake? As the engine warms up heat builds under the hood and the intake air becomes less dense resulting in less hp/torque.
  7. Reminds me a lot of the 1970 Mustang a buddy of mine had. It was very close to that green and had a flat black hood. The best though were some late 60's Fiat X1/9's that were almost a phosphorescent yellow-green. Iswore that they would glow in the dark. Impressive.
  8. I'll stick with my wifes Z32 convertible. Nothing beats that. http://www.zcar.com/month/2005/03/
  9. Project took 14 months at a cost of nearly $1k/month. That included a 3,500 mile LS1, the T56 and all the special fabricated components, electrical and mechanical install - including a fully functional AC system. On the other side I have 17,000 miles on it now with only a cooling fan relay failure and the engine/drivetrain looks like it's OEM.
  10. Superdan, I disagree that you can "pick any two". In my case it was just #3.

  12. Who are you? A Newbie?
  13. I just used the ones from my original L28. They're still working.
  14. I have one too. Great unit. I have a photo of it installed in my car in my album. Last photo on page two.
  15. I just went with a triangulated rear strut tower brace from http://www.racetep.com and an autopower 4-point roll bar. You can see them in my photo album. I had a very small crack on the passenger side B pillar before the LS1 was installed but it has not grown since then.
  16. I have AC in my 280Z with the LS1. I am running the stock 280 components except for a special high efficiency Japanese Compressor. The original system is good to about 90°F and then it starts losing ground against the heat - UNLESS - you go through and thoroughly insulate the car. I just did that and now it holds to about 100°F - even if the car is thoroughly 'sun-soaked' from sitting out all afternoon under the Texas sun. Amazing what a little insulation can do.
  17. Time to get under the car with a ruler and measure clearances with the wheels you have now - and the offset those wheels have. That way you will know exactly how much room you have on the inside, and maybe how much you'll need to roll the fender wells. I know that you can run 225's all the way around with stock springs, no flare, and a +5mm offset and just clear everything. If you want to run 235's and your coil-overs are at least 1/2" smaller in diameter than the original springs then you might be able to just go with a +10mm offset and still do nothing to the fenders - that might even work in the front which would allow same-size tires all the way around. Need to check not only nearest point on the tire to spring and fender but also nearest point on the wheel.
  18. When I installed the Nissan 'European spec' springs (15-17% stiffer) on my 280Z in place of the original stock springs the car lifted an inch. It now sits about 6" above the ground at the rails.
  19. The SRT8 Charger has the 425 HP 6.1 liter hemi - same as the Chrysler 300 version. I know the Chrysler has 4WD as an option but I'm not sure about the Dodge. I have a feeling that the Charger and the GTO will be very close performance wise but the Charger will probably be a bit less expensive. The original charger, not the Dukes of Hazard "The General", was pretty much a pig. Styling was mediocre and so was performance. Dodge has come out much stronger this time with a car that looks much better initially and also performs much better initially than the original 60's Charger. Yes, It shares a lot with the Chrysler 300C - that is how DC will keep costs within reason. I would imagine that a 6-spd would be an option in later models if demand is high enough.
  20. If you are running a lowered car I would definitely go the dual something approach rather than a single 3". I'm running stock height and occaisionally drag my dual 2 1/2" pipes on a steep break-over. Magna flow has a nice-sounding muffler with dual 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" inlet and a single 2 1/2" or 3" outlet. That's what I'm running. Dual 2 1/2" ffrom headers to a true 'X' pipe and then one 2 1/2" pipe routed the standard route with the other crossing the R200 mount on the passenger side using a 'frame clearance tube' and then both swing over to the drivers side to the muffler in the stock position. With a mild 350 sbc you should be fine with a 2 1/4" and it will help with cost & clearance issues.
  21. Roll bar is probably made by Autopower. MSA sells them. I have one also and the backing plates are about the same thickness as the mounting plates on the roll bar.
  22. If you just want the wide tires and to do the swap then go for it. I achieved your goals with a $500 3.70:1 R200 LSD out of a Z31 turbo. If you don't like the ratio then stock gears come in 3.36, 3.54 & 3.90 ratio's.
  23. GEt the last couple copies of Sport Z Magazine. They are running a series of articles on supercharging the L28 in a 280Z. They stuck with the EFI.
  24. 77-78 280Z's have fully a retractable one-piece lap and shoulder belt. I believe the lap part mounts in the same place as the 240 and the shoulder belt mounts on top of the rear strut tower.
  25. Jon, I assume just gutting the OEM proportioning valve and then adding the APR in the rear brake line will accomplish the same thing as a complete removal of the OEM valve? Bill
