  1. You have committed the #1, unforgiveable sin on Hybridz. The short answer is, if done right, the V8 will reduce the weight of the car and will position the weight lower and more toward the center of the vechicle. Some people think that is a good thing. Spend some time reading through the stickies at the top of each forumn. Especially rule #2 in this announcement http://forums.hybridz.org/announcement.php?f=65&a=2
  2. FWIW, prices on 2001-2002 F body pull outs on the site I linked to you went up over a grand since last December. I called that place and they only ebay list a fraction of the pull outs they sell. The guy said everyone wants the later engines. However, the supply of low mile, 4+ year old cars is getting more and more limited while prices on the LS2 stuff remians through the roof. Private listings (ls1tech, craigslist, etc) or buying a whole vehicle is defintely a cheaper way to go, but any cost savings can quickly evaporate should you get a bad engine or especially transmission. Most places want something like $1500 to rebuild a T56. At least with that Fparts ebay shop you have a chance of the guy shipping out a replacement unit under their warranty.

  4. You say the word "profiling" like it is somehow illegal or unethical. As long as the driver's race is not involved I see nothing wrong with what the cops did. It sucks, but not wrong. Go to court and see if you can beat it when the cop doesn't show up or on the outside chance the judge got laid the night before. Or better yet, have your buddy get rid of the fart can and tape the plate to the front bumper. Then bring in pictures to show the judge he got it fixed. Might get off with just court costs.
  5. Copper prices have been on a bit of a roller coaster lately. Same thing that is driving up oil: China and India. From the autometric sight, the line works for brakes and fuel and is "Available in all diameters from 1/8" to 1/2"od. (and metric equivalents). "
  6. Funny, I just visited a couple of auto parts stores trying to find a source of fuel lines. They all wanted to sell me the chinese made steel brake lines. Can the 90/10 stuff be used for fuel lines? Does it come in 1/2 diameter?
  7. http://www.ls1tech.com has an LT1/4 forum. I would try posting over there.
  8. That was always a worry of mine too. But I have seen pictures where you just need to get the car at a nose up angle something like 45° to be able o slide the engine, tranny and cross member out the front. Go to Harbor Freight and get a $20 funiture dolly (good to 1000#), lower the engine/crossmember unit down on that then tilt the body up. The other option is to get the eingine resting on the furniture dolly then sawsall the front clip off the vehicle.
  9. Took the whole family to see it. My boy has been talking about it for the last 2 weeks. I think I enjoyed it more than the kids. They got a little bored at first. Guess they didn't recognize a lot of the characters. But about the time Mater showed up they were into it.
  10. Are you swapping VINS or just replacing a whole bunch of parts? Today the current bid is down to $1000 with buy it now price of $8000. then in the comments is says the reserve is $30K. WTF?
  11. The stock MC may have been too small, I don't know. But you do realize having worn brake pads should have no impact on pedal travel. As the pads wear more fluid should fill the calipers resulting in the same pedal movement for the same brake movement. There is an adjustable push rod between the back of the MC and the booster that needs to be lengthened when swapping the MC. Or you could have the reaction disk problem Jon talks about. Or maybe there is air in the lines.
  12. Wierd that it is driven off the same serpentine belt driving the other accessories.
  13. I think reading through this will help. Especially item #2 http://forums.hybridz.org/announcement.php?f=58&a=2
  14. You know, I have never checked and never had a problem. Of course I do check for leaks once the engine is running. Must be those high quality Fram filters I buy.
  15. Looks like all he is really selling is the VIN In good shape cars like that sell for 6 figures. I guess it could add a bunch to the value of an existing knock off.
  16. Man I agree. Carpet simply doesn't belong on the tunnel of a 240.
  17. I'm just figuring out this MIG welding stuff myself, but I say turn up the heat just a tad and move the torch faster. Move too slow and the weld builds up on itself.
  18. Poly steering rack bushings and getting rid of the rubber steering coupler are two must have swaps IMO. Other than that, the Z front ends are pretty bulletproof. I had my 5 speed rebuilt and they did replace the shifter bushings. Made a big difference in the shifter feel.
  19. Just try the same test in a turn. Should be pretty easy to tell that way
  20. Try hooking both inputs up to the same sensor.
  21. You really need to buy the JTR manual, read it, then see how many of your questions were answered. Yes, ylou can make the mounts (the JTR manual gives templates). Yes you can reuse the gas tank and all the stock guages. Yes, the stock Z rear will work. Some will last longer than others depending upon how much HP you have, whether you are auto or manual and how you drive. Documented JTR swaps have been done for $1500. I can no longer find the link but a guy named Ron Tyler posted how he did it. I thnk the JTR manual says they did one for that. Figure maybe another $500 for inflation. The #2 most important thing to a low buck swap is your ability to source parts, but the #1 most important thing is having the attitude you seem to have: don't go crazy trying to do too much. Where most guys get killed is trying to buy a specific type of part or the dreaded "while I'm at it" syndrome. A rebuilt World Class T5 is probably a smart way to do, but if you get a killer deal on a 350 with an auto, go with that. Get the JTR manual and follow their advice.
  22. This is one of my favorite web sites ever. go down and click on the ghosttown link. http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/kiddofspeed/ This chick rides her motorcyle through the dead zone surrounding Chernobyl. Looks like she has a new one interviewing prisoners.
  23. I have had that happen 2 or 3 times in the past. Told the credit card companies the charges were not mine and that was it. The credit card companies took care of it with no other issues. Getting a single card compromised is really not a big deal. You get the bills within a month and can get the bad charges deleted without much effort. It is when they start making up new cards in your name that you have a serious problem. The bogus cards don't know your true address so you may not find out about them until a collection agency calls you months later. You can usually get all the bogus charges dropped without having to pay them, it just takes a lot of time monitoring your credit report and dealing with all the bureaucracy involved.
  24. There was a Z for sale a while back that had a "corvette rear end". After much debate we finally concluded that it was an otherwise stock rear suspension with a corvette pumpkin. It's possible that is what they are trying to sell here. Who knows for sure.
  25. There is a lot of spirited debate whether ethanol doesn't actually use more energy to make than it produces. So it is not really much of a solution. And you do realize the only reason E85 is cheaper is because it is subsidized. So by paying a quarter million a year in income taxes, you are in effect subsidizing your own E85 consumption. IMO, E85 makes a lot of sense if it can be produced on a small scale using fuel sources that would otherwise be wasted. But not many of us live on a pig farm or near an apple orchard.
