Yeah, it is ridiculously large but very light. I doubt that I would want to live with it on there (not really my style), but it's well shaped and built for what it is. I'm thinking that it would look at home on a purpose-built track or drag car.

I have this fiberglass whale tail spoiler that is painted by a previous owner to match the car, but was never installed. I've looked, but there doesn't seem to be any manufacturer markings on it. It's in perfect condition. Anyone know who produced these and about how much they are worth? On the car for scale and reference:

The lower 280Z grill rests up against the back of the airdam and that should also give the center a bit more support at speed.

I ordered my fiberglass 240 style bumpers from Oscar ("paezfs" on eBay; "Xclusive Koncepts"). He produces them himself. I paid for them on April 14th and I finally received them on May 22nd after calling to inquire about my order on the 18th. Apparently, a set was sent out USPS without a tracking number and never arrived. The second came promptly by UPS. When they arrived, I found that the bubble wrap had left a pattern on the finish (in their haste to get me a replacement, the bumpers were most likely shipped before they were fully cured). Not a big deal as that will sand out. Unfortunately, a bracket on the front bumper was also loose and the bumper will need to be exchanged (according to Oscar, another couple days for them to produce it and then ship). My experience above may sound bad, but Oscar has always accepted my calls (his personal cell number may be found on his eBay listings; give it a call) and has been very helpful in resolving the issues with my order. As long as it all turns out right in the end (judging from his customer service I have no doubt that it will), he offers these at one hell of a deal and produces them to order for your car year, meaning that they mount to the existing holes and you won't need additional brackets. I'll update this when my replacement bumper arrives.

How many of the other gaskets in a '77 headgasket set will I be able to use on my stock '76 280Z? Needed the set for this weekend and no one seemed able to get me FelPros soon enough, so I went with the '77 Ishino set off of PartsGeek (they offer overnight delivery).
-
I'm sorry, but that makes it look like you hit something and didn't bother getting your bumper fixed.
-
Thanks, my '77 headgasket will fit my '76 n42 block. How many of the other gaskets in a '77 headgasket set will I be able to use?
-
Gah. I'm having a hard time finding even the FelPros in anyone's system around here, pretty much everywhere says the same thing, that they come from the factory. If I'm going to order them, I may as well do it myself online. Looking at the Ishino set at PartsGeek for a '77... besides the headgasket, how many of the gaskets in a '77 headgasket set can be used on my '76? (n47 versus n42 heads)

Mine came in last week and I installed it over the weekend. Not a huge problem, but it doesn't come with the mounting holes predrilled. I used a bunch of small C-clamps to align and adjust it, scribed marks for the holes and took it back off to drill them. Turned out pretty nice, will be taking it back off again to paint it and can not wait for my fiberglass bumpers to arrive.

Thanks for the response. The Ishinos that I am coming across in searches are for 77+ cars. What is the difference between the 76 and 77 L28? Can these be used? Also, is Nippon Reinz the same company or related in some way to (possibly a new name for?) Victor Reinz?

Looking for a headgasket. Stock '76 L28 with an N42 head. Doing a search and reading through old threads it seems that many people have problems with FelPro headgaskets, which are ubiquitous. The brand suggested most often in the older threads is Victor Reinz, which is no longer available (I've checked NAPA, O'Reilly, Advance, Carquest). The only other brand I have come across is Beck/Arnley. Has anyone had experience with their headgaskets? Better than the FelPros or should I just order FelPro and hope that their quality has improved? *EDIT* Nevermind, it appears that the Beck/Arnley that Advance offers is a 2mm gasket, not (correct me if I'm wrong) the stock 1mm thick gasket. I don't want to spend hundreds on a metal gasket, I just want a decent brand that I won't have to worry about. Any suggestions?

Looks good, except that you should remount your airdam behind the lower edge of the sugarscoops/headlamp buckets. That will fix the alignment issue you are having on the front wheelwell. Amazing. Normally I don't like bright colored wheels, but it really works on your car. What color is the car itself?

I also received my shipping notice this morning. Looks like I will see mine on the 1st.
-
I also ordered one this weekend. I see that they are also located in Michigan, so at least I shouldn't have much more than a day to wait after they get around to shipping it. The price difference from MSA is pretty incredible, and the fact that they also offer free shipping on such a large item is mind blowing.

Mine was redone in Porsche Slate Gray Metallic by a previous owner: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3976294/1976-datsun-280z

The new Dodge logo is 2 racing stripes, this is a nod to the popular racing stripes seen on many muscle cars. The two fender stripes have been used on many cars, including the original Corvette ZR1. That said, there's not much BRE can do about you applying two fender stripes to your own car.

Awesome, I was just looking at xenon airdams myself. How was your experience ordering from them? How long did it take them to ship? Looks like they are still offering the 10% off deal too... code is now "flower10"

How much of the rear holes are covered by the 240 bumper? Because if they still need to be filled, you may as well go for a shaved rear look in my opinion... Ordered a set of fiberglass bumpers from eBay seller "paezfs", who says that his mount up without special brackets (bolts to the stock holes in the sides and under the sugar scoops). He produces them to order. I also came across a post on another forum by someone who claims to know him and says that he is the supplier to MSA. Does anyone have pics of his fiberglass rear bumper on their car so that I can see how noticeable the holes are and can decide if I need to get them filled or not?

Looking at replacing a cracked head. What do I need (which gasket, etc.) to run this rebuilt P90 head, naturally aspirated, on my stock '76 280Z (N42 block, dished pistons): http://datsunpartsllc.com/cart/index.php?p=product&id=60&parent=0 ...and if anyone has run this combo NA, how noticeable will the reduced 7.3CR be compared to the stock N42? What issues will I be looking at if I run this NA while I collect the parts needed for the turbo setup? Thanks!

Car coasting to a stop in neutral, clutch out, brake on. I would have to time it to be sure, but the engine races for a few long seconds before settling down to it's normal idle. It revs up when I put it into neutral and continues for a bit after I come to a complete stop. This revs higher and lasts longer than what I would think is normal. Unfortunately, I can't give specifics on the RPMs as my tach isn't currently working (it's always something, right? lol). I'll break out the multimeter and carb clean this weekend and start chasing leaks.

manual 4 speed

When i come to a long stop and place my '76 280Z in neutral, the engine races briefly for a few long seconds before settling back down into the normal idling range. What could be causing this and how do I fix? Thanks.

What is your Top Speed. On or Off Track.

I hit the cut off in my Cadillac CTS at 148mph. I've had my Dodge Magnum R/T up past 140mph and it was still climbing steadily when I backed off. Not bad for a 2 ton brick. ...the 280z? 80 or 90 is the most I've braved with the condition it's in. lol
