  1. itd be sweet if it does work... I'm still debating if itd be (too much of )a PITA to use a s13 rear subframs/ suspension with s30...
  2. watanabe and pannasport also make banana style wheels, tho the watanabe wheels are pricey and forged.
  3. I feel your pain on that one... The floorpans are the only serious rust areas on my s30... heres a link to zed floorpans http://www.datsunzparts.ca/NewParts/summary.htm
  4. Just to let you know, the 260Z fuel pump does not run all the time, nor does it prime the fuel line like a modern car. The electric pump kicks in once the engine hits a certain rpm, (800 iirc) as per the 260z FSM. basically, it only runs while the engine is already running to prevent vapor lock in the fuel lines... You will either have to wire the new pump to a switch, or wire it like the 240sx pump circuit. hope this helps, sorry its a bit late...
  5. everyone forgets that the VQ swap is more complicated, electrically. IIRC, the vq motors out of a Z are Can bus setups- more wires, more stuff to source (or make sure comes with the motor) etc. The Ls wins in the department of simplicity on this one. hmm, I wonder if the LSx is lighter than a VQ...
  6. I'm surprised this hasn't been done yet, but I'd like to compile a list of different flairs for our Z's with pics, and/or links to where they can be obtained. maybe we can get this stickied? Please feel free to add to the list of options!!! Also, I have NOT had any experience dealing with any of these dealers, so feel free to add +/- feedback. 7. mmm turbo goodness= awesome... I have a Sr20det for my 260, though I'm tempted to trade/sell my bmw for a s13 chassis and throw the redtop in that... then put a blacktop in the Z...
  8. ok cool. Does it have alloy wheels? If so, what type and how much? i dunno if you're interested, but I have a 260Z motorset for sale, asking maybe a couple hundred... It's got early carbs (the bell shaped ones), but the crappy e88 head... I don't really know much about the carbed L series, but you could buy the motorset and make a stroker motor, assuming the head bolts up.(i'm pretty sure it does tho) I'm only looking to get a couple hundred for everything, motor trans coil, ac compressor etc etc... has a new water pump... I also have a low pressure fuel pump and regulator for sale, I ditched the piston type pump on the 260 for one made to run constantly... it has less than one mile on it... (I drove the Z around the block twice.) Maybe we could work something out as a parts exchange??? I kinda want a 240 front bumper and mounts, and I'd definitelly be interested in a set of alloy wheels. ( I have the stock steelies )
  9. how far are you away from 07001? once we finish cleaning out the sh*t the previous owner left in the driveway there will be enough space... out of curiousity what are you pulling off the car?
  10. Thanks for the info! While my current focus is removing rust and getting the chassis to an acceptable condition, I often randomly come up with "will this work?" ideas. Its pretty cool that someone already did this, as I have no intention of trying to reinvent the wheel... (unless they haven't come out with carbon fiber wheels for cars) Nevermind... http://www.carbonfibergear.com/weds-sport-full-carbon-fiber-wheel/
  11. Wow now that I'm some what awake, I'm impressed my first post made any sense at all... After thinking about it a little more, I'd have to find out if an a/c compressor can withstand being run on a 100% duty cycle... If not, it may only be practical to use for a short period of time, similar to using actual NO2, and its applications would be limited to say a 1/4 mile run, or perhaps a hot lap or two for time attack...
  12. Its like 4:47am, and I was wondering, often people will use co2, or perhaps nos sprayers to chill the intercooler. Would it be practical to have an intercooler with an A/c evaperator core built internally into it? It could definitely cool the air significantly, and I wonder if the power gains would be able to make up for the few lost HP to spin the A/c compressor. Would it also help with cylinder temps/detonation as the incoming air is cooled significantly? Say the setup were installed inside the cabin in place of the heater core system- instead of running the air conditioning, simply draw fresh cold air from the outside to cool the intercooler and use the warm air to heat the cabin. The only way I could see that not working well is if the heat energy generated by the compressed air of the turbos isnt really that significant... If the intercooler were in the cabin, having the intercooler insulated from heat soak from the engine would be benificial as well, correct? Sorry if this is a bit on the incoherent side, its a bit late and I think too much...
  13. i'm sure theres some way to make it fit in a Z... I mean whats the worst that could happen, you have to relocate the firewall? LOL... In this case the 2+2 chassis would be better, you could do that and move the driver seat farther back by removing the rear seat right? (this is speculation, as I've never seen a 2+2 in person up close...
  14. I'm not sure about cali law, but here in NJ you're allowed to put a newer motor in your car. As far as emissions goes a fuel injected motor will have less emissions than a L series carburated with no cat... that and newer motors are designed to keep up with anticipated emissions standards years from the date of manufacture...
  15. Wow, went out at 2am and got some washing soda... I wonder if the voltage/amperage has to be stronger for a larger volume of water... If so, how much washing soda and current would need to be used for a pool? (j/k) Out of curiousity, does the temperature of the water matter? I'm guessing that the reaction would happen faster in distilled warm, hot water... Is the black stuff left over still rust, technically? can it be painted over, or does it need to be removed as well?
  16. Or they could buy a Z as a second car...
  17. Not knowing about this builds existence, I was wondering how a chopped Z would look... Anyone know if he ever finished it?
  18. This is brilliant, and quite inspirational. - I was considering using a 240sx rear subframe because of all of the issues with updating the rear suspension/driveline of my Z.
  19. thanks!- Though after seeing it on a different car in red, it doesn't look nearly as appealing...
  20. I went on raceonusa's site and can't find it listed undet any of the s30 types... is it located somewhere else?
  21. looks like it has a bigger front splitter/lip than the MSA type 1 ducted...
  22. The easiest way to find if an injector is firing is to put a screwdriver to it while someone else cranks the car. put the screwdriver to your ear and listen for the "click" sound as the injector is energized. Or you can go to harbor freight and get a car stethoscope for probably $4 ... make sure the stethoscope isnt touching anything else, or you'll get background noise...

  24. out of curiousity what are you using for a rear differential and driveshaft? I was thinking about converting to a R200 and a clutchtype lsd... and then trying to ditch the u joint axels for Cv's... I wish there were a simple solution to upgrading the diff and axels and whatnot... Er, nevermind about the rear diff part, just realized I missed the answer to that one...
  25. i'm very interested to see how this thread develops as I just picked up a redtop SR for my 260z...
