  1. I'm not sure about that racing capability thing.... unless you're talking about driving the freeway during rush-hour I've never done any car racing before- just bicycle racing a few years ago in college, and gasoline model boat racing currently. Car racing seems like a very different thing. the vintage racing thing came up because those guys look like they're just cruising around (from TV programs). So I thought it just might be cool to do a few laps "at speed" or other than what you do through the local metropolitan parkway system. Maybe Mid-Ohio has a day when you can do that? Do they require special equipment, like a rollbar? A helmet would be no problem.
  2. Anwers sare as expected so far. Can you tell me more about how things are in your area?
  3. I dunno what the rules are for vintage racing. Maybe somebody could fill me in as to whether a Z car would meet the rules. Probably in Stock form. I think it might be cool to go there with the GTO body on and do some laps.
  4. YOu should see my basement. I bet there's a blown 71 Mustang Mach I down there someplace.
  5. Here's my idea: Suggest something to your Grandma that costs like, $50 or so, and tell her it really costs $150. Then tell her you'll order it and she can pay you back. Then get the money from her and spend the difference on her! It should satisfy your conscience and she gets you and herself something to boot.
  6. The Stock wiring has them ALL go on at once, so you would still need to separate one side from the other. I still think it would look peculiar, seeing all those lamps flashing... j/k
  7. I got a call from the mechanic and he told me the engine was running WAY ririch (off the scale!) and it's because somebody tampered with the Air-flow meter, so it needs to be replaced. It'll be getting a new one, since the dealers don't use used or rebuilt parts. Would it be better to do this (replace) myself, with a used/rebuilt part, then have it calibrated, or just have the dealer do it all & bill me? I'll be getting a call Monday with an estimate. thx.
  8. I think you could do it 2 ways... You could just wire the side marker lights to the turn signal lamps. That way they'd flash, but they would no longer be used as marker lights. Make sure one side isn't connected to the other, ore both sides will flash. The other way, to have marker lights & turn signal combination, would be to replace the sockets with ones for the 2-filament bulbs, then connect the sockets to both the marker light and turn signal light circuits. I don't think I would recommend this because these bulbs will get much hotter than the smaller, marker lights, and probavly melt the lenses. It might be a better idea to replace the side marker lights completely with some lights designed to do both things.
  9. I think the F-car GTOs had exhaust tips called "NACA Snap tips" or something like that? I would like to poosibly find one or get one to see how it sounds. thx.
  10. Incidentally, on big airplanes like a 747, the weight of just the COLOR coat is like 300-400 POUNDS, but that's for the whole plane. That's why the older jets were bare aluminum. You won't save that much weight from your car- just an interesting fact.
  11. I took out the a/c on my 280Z with some other stuff on the front and it looks like the front end came up an inch or two??? It's either that, or the springs on the back are sagging down an inch? BTW, on my 280Z the rear (subfloor) is made of cardboard-like stuff and I left it in. I did cut a hole big enough for a full-size wheel and got rid of the mini spare. It was a piece of dried-up junk and the air can was missing too. I hinged the front of the (rear floor) so I can access the two storage wells underneath. Great place to store jumper cables, mini air compressor,TOOLS, etc.
  12. Dude, You need to be watching what's in front of you, not what's on the video screen. I think video screens should be outlawed unless they are placed WAY behind the driver's seat, so there's no way the driver can be distracted or look away from traffic. It's just like damned cell phones- no place for them in the car.
  13. You still have your hearing?? I didn't have that much air flow since I was in a rock band in high school! I bet you could reverse those things out the back and get another 5 mph due to "Jet power." I prefer smaller speakers to show off the full-range of classic rock-n-roll music.
  14. I talked to one of the guys that will be working on my car (other had a family emergency) and he told me he'll get copies of the printouts or write the screen results down. It helps to say you're going to show or restore the car, so documentation is REALLY important.
  15. The miata seats would be a good alternative to installing speakers on an older Z, because they don't really have any place for the speakers to mount. Mine has 2-4" ones under the rear quarter windows, and the old rusted wires don't let the amps get to the speakers, or maybe they are too old to make loud sounds. In either case, a fresh receiver and wires would do the trick.
  16. I'm interested in knowing which miata seats had speakers. Also how were the speakers connected?
  17. That's what I thought. With Arnold out of the acting business for the next few years, hHollywood will have to go to someone else fortheir action-hero. Maybe Stallone? who else is there?
  18. Local dealer has a tune-up special, so I think I'll take my 280Z in to get the WORKS. I would like to get printouts for all the calibrations or measurements they do while doing the tune-up. What, if anything, can I get or request to get? I think it would be nice to see specs on air-flow, fuel-flow, and other stuff relative to engine perfomance. I could use it as a baseline for (engine mods.) Also, I keep all the service invoices, printouts (diagrams, etc) that I can to document the car, or for my own records. That way you can show it to a buyer, if I ever sell it, and it should help you get a better selling price. They do it on collector cars. Also think I will get the engine bay/undercarriage steam cleaned while there.
  19. If Arnold is in office, who does Hollywood have to do the acting? Arnold? ba-DUM-dum! *ahem*
  20. I got my car from http://www.zdocs.com Thety have an online list with pictures. Everything from 240s to 5spd 280s, even ZXs and other imports & doimestic vehicles.
  21. Are John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd driving? Wearing black suits & sunglasses of course!
  22. No paypal for me. threy want your checking account # & stuff and I don't give that to anybody. nope.
  23. I sent a money order made out to the guy. I think I can dig up the sales receipt and the check stub associated with it if I have to. Good thing I forgot to take out the trash yesterday.
  24. Here's how I look at it: When we were kids, and rode on a bus (assuming you did) some other people get their turn at driving behind the bus and stopping (at every house) as the bus did. Now, we're all grown up with kids (maybe) and it's OUR turn to be behind the bus so (our) kids can have a safe ride to/from school. I still feel better when the bus turns off the road at the first street tho. That's just the way most things work. Even when it's your/my turn to be stupid. I just try to be stupid less often and to a lesser extent. Either way, everybody gets their turn. Try to be smart about it.
