  1. Ive seen one in the MSA catalog. I thought that there would be others that would work with the Nissan stuff.
  2. What would you suggest for the 78 280Z with the original engine? In terms of maybe an aftermarket product....
  3. I wanted to order stainless brake hoses (who has a good deal?) from Tweeks. They had the best price I saw. When I called them, they told me they only had Porsche stuff and gave me a phone # for a place called Zbonds? Any info on that? Thx.
  4. Your point is that BOTH bearings and races are are replaceable, so do both?
  5. I was driving down the freeway at about 60 mph the other day, and I felt a ticking feeling through the steering wheel. It might be a bad bearing on the front, with a tick every revolution. Only thing was you didn't feel it at street speeds. My 78 280Z has 105K miles, with no apparent misuse. Should I replace the bearings? BTW, do the bearing races wear? Thx.
  6. Basically, but I want to do this on a Z car, which uses a pushrod from the door handle to make the door lock open. The pushrod pushes DOWN.
  7. I have those thrunk lid locks. That is what I was going to use on the doors.
  8. I saw one at the shopping center the other day. Just a button sticking out of the door, just like the lock on the hatch of a Z. If somebody has pictures of the mechanism of the MG door lock, would you please check to see if it uses a pushrod that pushes down, as the Zcar door uses? I thought that it would be easier to just stick two MG pushbuttons on the Z car doors and adjust the length of the pushrod. That way you could use the MG key for all the locks and the Z key for the ignition. Much simpler than designing a new lock mechanism.
  9. The stock Datsun TS switch is just a SPDT switch, so you just need to look at what you got, and figure out how to configure it as SPDT, if it isn't there already. The headlight dimmer is just a push on-push of SPST pushbutton type. At least it is on my '78 280Z... I haven't taken apart the headlight/wiper switch, so you ogot me on that one.
  10. I never thought of it that way! What do you think would happen if the fan was changed to something like the new metal kind for racing. Mine is the white (plastic) fan with, I think, 8 blades. It seems as long as you have the proper shroud, about any kind of fan shhould work. I would like to quiet the fan noise down some.
  11. I got a really nice straight cut with a (wide) blade. Make sure it's SHARP. I did have to go back and trim some really thin slices off to make it really smooth, and a little scraping with the blade, too. I have more to do yet; I didn't want to get it all at once. It'll be better that way. Remind me to put tape on my knuckles next time i do this. Keeping the blade flat & low rubbed my knuckles raw.
  12. OK, I took mine off: Chrome pulled off easily. Scrub off the crud underneath with scrub brush & lots of water. Then go get your best pocket knife and sharpen the blade. Sharpen some more... now you can slice off the ridges holding the knife flat along the paint. Take your time & do it right the first pass. Now, I just need some black RTV stuff to fill any gaps, or is there a better method? One corner of the windsheild pulled out a little to leave a small hole. The rest looks nice with the wide rubber seal. Maybe just a little (rubber) polishing?
  13. If you remove the chrome pieces, does the window leak when it rains? I would like to get mine off, if it won't leak.
  14. The bulbs were all good. As a last resort, I took the TS mechanism off & cleaned it. Somebody put gobs of grease on it, so it wouldn't lock on. I also cleaned the switch contacts, which were dirty & greasy. Works fine now, except I need to go back under the column cover and LIGHTLY gease the TS mechanism. NOW, I hear a KLUNK with every tuirn of the wheel to the right. the TS pin must be hitting something. Aaargh.
  15. Dude, This web page will help you locate the information you requested. i.e., a "parts interchange guide." http://www.zparts.com/literature/icminfo.html
  16. Datsun supposeedly (strole) the design for the 6 cylinder engine from Mercedes, as is known from an old lawsuit, won by Mercedes, but what engine was the design copied? It might be useful when thinking about hop ups.
  17. I wouldn't need to cut it off. Mine (rubber that hold the chrome) breaks off in little pieces, and now the rain drips in at the lower right corner of the hatch window. Can anybody confirm this and tell me why it's leaking? Is there a fix? I just put some clear packing tape on it so far, but it won't stay on long.
  18. Has anybody put vents on their hatch window? I like the GTO style. What di you do? Otherwise, any suggestions? I need a way to let the hot air out better with the windows closed. side vents just seem to let winter air IN. Thx.
  19. I was thinking of getting one of those resonating import mufflers for some Italian sound, and the guy asked me, how loud do you want it?" Apparently, there are several chambers/resonators inside and you can take them out to adjust the loudness? Anybody got any recommendations or experiences? Should I just go with the stock muffler because if I take the resonator out, it'll be too loud? I wouldn't want to get pulled over because it's too loud. thx.
  20. I checked at the local 'Import custom Shop' about the "key-transmitter" thing. He said there isn't anything besides OEM (mostly luxury vehicles even) on that. Too bad; I thought a ring with a Z-logo and transponder chip would be cool. Maybe I will ccheck the security shops next. A friend suggested you tap off an accessory switch to a starter interrupter. What's a starter interrupter? Sounds like some kind of switch or relay thing that completes the circuit to the starter solenoid. If you wanted to do the timed- shutoff, it would be easy to design a timer circuit and relay from Radio Shack parts. You just splice into the ignition coil circuit, and add a bypass/deactivate switch to turn the thing off so the engine runs. You could wire it so you need to hit the switch every time the engine is started.. You could then hide the deactivate switch on the switch panel with all the other accessory switches.
  21. I'm not sure if it was asked before, but Arethose aftermarket EI ignition modules any good? Would it be a good idea to put one in before the original one goes bad?
  22. Is there anything you can do you those plastic dash caps to make them less reflective? sanding/buffing?
  23. I suppose any foaming stuff that "goes away" would work, but the tire foam also leaves a protective coating and cleans and treats the wires and rubber hoses too. Like putting Amour-All on after you clean. t's why I used it.
  24. Got a few spots from trans fluid on the driveway. Is there a good cleaner or method to use to get it out? Thx.
  25. I was thinking of stuff to use under the hood to clean off the gunk & protect what paint there is under there, and I saw my can of tire foam on the shelf! I just foamed it onto the painted areas, let it sit a couple, and then wipe off the dirt & shine it up a little. Got some on the wires & hoses, but it should do them a little good too, because it's supposed to (moisturize?), clean and protect rubber stuff by design. After treatment, I let it dry up a while to eliminate fire hazard.
