  1. Getting ready to scare the pants off my instructor at a high speed TT.
  2. All the parts stores and brake supply houses down in San Antonio don't have the right fittings either. The 10mmX1mm fittings I have been able to buy here definitely don't fit right. I go to the JY and get old fittings and put them on new tubing that I bend and bubble flare myself.
  3. I think your right. It would probably require some fabrication and ZX steering arms.
  4. What about the '83 ZXT rack? Aren't the dimensions essentially the same as the 240 rack?
  5. Cant agree there. I have one but don't use it at all. I'll tell you why. On my car, to get the tranny in and out with out removing the headers, it needs to be rotated to the side a little bit for clearance as you put it up to take it down.
  6. The first time I tried to put a 5 speed back on I thought I could press it on like a weight lifter too. But that tranny gets pretty heavy after holding it up for a few minutes. Use a jack. It doesn't need to be a tranny jack, a regular floor jack works fine too. It's a 1 man job and takes about 15 minutes to get it in and bolted up. Use a jack to lift the tranny and get the input shaft lined up and started. Grab the tailshaft and work it side to side and up and down. Turn the output shaft a little if it seems like the splines aren't lining up. You should be able to get it within a 1/2" or so that way. Add the 4 bolts that hold the tranny to the block and tighten each one a little at a time to pull it up tight after that.
  7. Well no wonder, I just measured compression on my old tired motor - 90-100 PSI across the board. A squirt of oil brings it up to 180.
  8. In Texas, 30 yrs, scrounge up some old plates, and promise you will only drive in parades.
  9. I got killed (1 second) by 3 different Z06's last weekend on a short but very fast autox course. Time for new tires and some motor work. Of course the fact that one of the Z06's was being driven by multi year National Champs that pulled FTOD didn't help the situation!
  10. I found that my local Oreilly Autoparts had them in stock. I checked the stock on the Internet and then called to verify they had it.
  11. I'd dispute that. Me too. Everything had a down side.
  12. This kid has no fear ... http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=1107178&perpage=40&
  13. I think you are correct. I don't see very many purpose built race cars being driven to events. I think you will see a lot of different ways to adjust setup on cars, alignment, springs and sway bars being the primary way to do it.
  14. And a top fuel dragster would nail it in a drag race' date=' but still the Z06 is a sweet road car.....I am waiting for the Blue Devil though!!![/quote'] Very true. But the look on their faces when you spank them with a Z by a pretty good margin is priceless.
  15. Tom Holt has them in his car - he is very happy (and very quick). All of the cars I've seen them on are very quick. I have heard heard that they aren't any good 3rd hand from some race car builders - most likely because they are putting Penskes and Ohlins on cars. There is no comparison dollar-wise between Penskes and Advance Design.
  16. Buy my 240Z and beat Z06's at autocross.
  17. I had a chance to autox a car with paddle shifters - a buddies BMW M3 with a bunch of high dollar suspension mods and race rubber on it. Car was very quick and handled very well. When you hit the paddles though, my first reaction was WTF? WHEN is this thing gonna shift? It's cool and everything, but I think I'll stick with what I've got.
  18. Here's what I did. My problem was I had a lot of trouble modulating the brakes when driving competitively, and ended up locking them up all the time. I disconnected the booster and ran for about a year like that until I was sure I drove better that way. Then I took the booster off and cut it up and used parts from it to make the plate that mounts between the FW and MC, and took the actuator rod and welded a little extension on it so it was the right length. You can adjust free play with the clevis that attaches to the brake pedal. Works great for me. Now I really have to stand on it hard to lock them up and I'm able to modulate much better. The brake pedal is way too stiff for your average driver though so if you do this, at least you have been warned.

  20. I won't turn the radio off either. More like I'd smash it to bits with a sledgehammer. Thats the kind of fan I am.
