Is a 76 280z driverside window the same as a 73 240z window? Mark

I`ve been using model paint pens. Started using the silver but found the white worked better while using the welder and plasma cutter.

Thanks, I guess the wrecker towtruck will get thinned out paint then. On the 10% one did you try to wetsand the wavyness out for a second coat? I`m doing a 2 tone and really don`t want to spend a full vacation week on it so I though a thick to thin process would work out. I noticed on the table at work once I broke the outer layer, sanding went easy but the outer layer took longer than I though to sand though. Mark

Two questions about the rustoleum method.... #1 For the rollor method, what`s the drying time for each coat? #2 has anyone tried applying the paint right from the can (no thining) and wet sanding/polishing afterward? I tried sanding a spot on a table at work with #400 emery cloth and it sanded smooth and I had no problem getting the brush strokes out. I`m thinking it might be worth it to foam brush it on thick in one or two coats and wet sand it down in steps. Thoughts? Mark

Back in my street race days I used to run my 68 nova with the sleeper look. aka. COPO look, bench seat, collum (sp?) shift and linelocks activated through the horn button. Just picture that car light blue with light blue rims and same dog dish hubcaps and thats it. Pepole still remember the car! Not the owner just the car...lol And it was because of that look! Mark

When this rain stops and I`m finally off on a good day. I`d like to start on my 72 chevy wrecker. I`d like to do a metalic color but since I have to do the truck outside I`d like to use the roller method. Common sense sez it shouldn`t work with a roller any one try it yet? This is what I`m going for? Gold ,Green or Almond Mark

Thanks, sorry I know it was vuge to say the least. I was at work and the thought came to me as my break was ending. Anyway, I have a 72 c30 dually wrecker that was owned by a local body shop that has owned it since new. It only has 19,000 miles on it believe it or not and the body is pretty solid for it`s age. I got it for $500. A few years ago when the shop was slow they told the guys to paint it up. So it`s white with big multi colored scollops and a checkered flag design on the hood and rear of the wrecker body. After it was painted they got work in so the truck sat outside. The white is faded but the painted scallops are still shiny good paint. I`d like to remove the scallops and try to restore the white center section and paint the rest of the white body green. A typical paint design for these trucks. I`d like to use the Rustoleum painting method discussed here lately since the idea is to just make it look presentable and not a studio 54 reject. It is after all a work truck. Mark

"---It looks like a pretty clean car but that rusty frame rail kinda softens the deal...---" Opinions are welcome but I think for being a northestern car it is in really good shape. Did you see the floorpans? The rails are also good and strong It`s just the outer patch panels that needs repair. Most 240z`s have this problem. "---so does the auto trans."---" The automatic isn`t a bad deal breaker either. When shifted manually it hits second rather nice and third isn`t too bad either. I`m guessing that`s why the floor boards are still in good shape because it`s never had the twisting and bending from power shifting and dropping the clutch. "-----"No reserve", but a starting bid of $3500? I think that's pretty much a "reserve".---" The no reserve was put in there becuase I usually put a starting bid then a reserve and a buy it now price. This time I thought I`d just put what I want for the car. Just wanted to put the car out there if anyone was interested. And I`m not holding anyone to thier Ebay winner comitment. Mark

yep, the rear was narrowed as far as it would go so they had to make the car wider to match it. Mark

How to get 14's with your econobox (posted on EFI Live Lounge)
660Z replied to DaleMX's topic in Non Tech Board
Years ago Hot Rod magizine did the same thing to a Cadilac with a 472ci or 500 engine. Can`t remember how fast it went, I think it went 11`s maybe early 12`s but it was down to the frame by the end of it all. If someone did that to an early Z I don`t think they would go much faster, since there`s nothing to them to begin with Mark -
They have no choice but to built it. Discontiuing the Camaro /Firebird and replacing it with the GTO was a huge mistake. The arogance of you`ll buy what we build no longer applies. I think it`s bull that the Camaro and Challenger won`t be built until 2009. If these platforms were still in use we would see these cars the next model year. Chysler didn`t start picking up speed until they started going retro with the 300c and Hemi, hence rear wheel drive platform. For years they relied on front drive "performance" cars. Remember the Laser,Daytona,Charger, Shelby and Omni GHL platforms? They could be made to go fast if it was a turbo car but none of them light a fire in your soul. For years they refused to build an affordable rear drive muscle car and let Ford and Chevy have the market while they played with trucks. I`m convinced if they had made an aforable muscle car with power and rear wheel drive they would have cleaned up, but what did they make...The Viper... not exactly afordable to the masses. And that`s one of the reasons why GM is in trouble. Every car except the Corvette is front drive and the GTO isn`t selling becuse it`s a con on the past, and everyone knows it. Remember when Dogde redesinged the ram truck and how it set the truck market on it`s ear and forced better, stronger and more apealing trucks from everyone including from Japan? That what GM needs to do with this car. The folks that grew up in the late 60`s early 70`s can afford a car that can take them back and GM is blowing it yet again. Retro = a market that`s ready to buy memories of happy times long gone by. Mark

" I can't wait for the retro versions of the AMC Pacer and Gremlin." Hell yeah can`t wait for the Mean Machine and The Rebel....just bling them up like they did in the 70`s...Man they were some fuggly cars back then but very patriotic none the less. Mark
-
yeah it looks like a Mustang, GTO hybrid. I`m guessing just as bloated as the GTO also. Now the Charger has the right idea..that car is sweet!!! Mark
-
I`m really indifferent to it...My thought is too little too late...yawn. I wish GM would put down the keyboard and pick up a pencil and start drawling somthing with creativity and excitement. Mark

remounting the Master Cyl inboard
660Z replied to 660Z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I thought it was Lokar you were trying to remember so I checked them out. I looked at that setup but I`m still running the datsun unibody and ground clerance is still an issue. Im only replacing the engine frame rails and adding a cage with some improved stuceral modifications like recessing the side exhaust into the body and reshaping the frame connectors for example. That pedal is made for the UP to 50`s streetrods and is really big, but thanks for the info! You did give me another idea on how to mount the M/C, acually I have quite a few ideas but won`t know until I dig into it on which one will work. Mark -

I found another one But all these are way too much money for what I have in mind. I think I`ll do something along the lines of what jmortensen suggested in his last picure post. And that is extend the brake pedel up through the housing and mount the Datsun M/C there facing in my direction. Of course this is just a thought for now, since I`ve been sick and haven`t been able to go out to the garage lately. Mark -

660Z replied to 660Z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Thank for the replies, those pedals aren`t exactly what I had in mind. but would work. I might try to mount the stock unit that way. The idea I had was somthing like this. But I only want the linkage to make it work with the stock setup and I`ll fab the rest. EvilRufusKay: "question...why would you not use the booster anymore? " Because a big cam lowers engine vacuum to a piont that the booster will no longer work properly, and the vacuum canasters are a pain to deal with, so it`s just better to change over to a manual brake system. Mark -
I`m currently tubing my front end along with a full rollcage and i`m planning on fabbing up some wheel well headers. Since the M/C is off the car and I don`t plan on using the booster anymore. I`m thinking making the headers would be easier with relocating the M/C inside the car something along the lines of what the Chevy shoebox guys do (55-57) only in my case without relying on the dash for support. Has anyone done this or know of a simple kit? I think the major issue is finding a reliable pivot pin to use. Mark
