Happy New Years! I resolve to get my car "done" this year! Resolutions?

Why, home sick? Didn`t like it? Hate sushi and Japaneese game shows? -
Shelby tried to make lightning strick twice by putting a V8 in a british car, though they never had the popularity or following as the Cobra did. When Chrysler bought the company that made the Sunbeam Tiger they acually had to warranty them with the ford engine. When a Chyrsler engine was too wide to put in the Tiger body the car was discontinued. My cousin knows a guy restoring an old documented racer says, they require a one off oilpan that goes for big bucks. I say get it and enjoy a piece of history!!! Also,Maxwell Smart drove one in the "Get Smart" tv series. Mark

Yea, I thought about that while I was typing it, but Apple designed the engineering for the ipod. Our pads are used by 95% of the market world wide. If it has a chip in it chances are it was polished with our pad. It`s pretty amazing to see how a chip is made, especally today there`s so many layers of chemical pathways in something thinner then your finger nail or even hair. They easily fit over 1000+ chips onto a disk the size of a CD. Flatness is measured in 1-2 microns difference maybe smaller now, it`s been a few years since I learned about it. Mark

"rudypoochris: You wouldn't happen to work for Genentech would you? " Nope sorry I work for Rohm and Haas, we make the polishing pads used to make the semiconductors in computers. They gave us the ipods to show us that we`re more then just the PC market. I have tried the rebooting (several times) but no good the thing is shot. I just rebooted one that had a frozen screen and it worked like it should. Mark

Anyone have problems with thier ipod? My company gave everyone one because of the good year we`ve had. So I`ve had mine for 2 days, worked great!!! the sound is unbelievable!!! Anyway had it charging on the computer and it falls 12 inches face down off of the PC tower and hasn`t worked since...Not a hard fall either I think a feather would have fallen harder. I`ve tried everything to get it working again...It`s just DOA just makes clicking noises and the screen has no info just a black bar across it. These are made with teenagers in mind right? And a 1 foot fall scrambles it up? If I had acually bought it I would be pissed that it broke this fast and is this fragile. Then I read about people acually trying to break it and can`t....I thing what did it in was a drop from a building. Before that they were throwing it out of cars...one guy ran it though the washing machine..and it work fine!!! Hopefully I`ll find out monday if I can get another one. Isn`t technology great!! Mark

stock caster settings (front strut tower)

thanks, I thought it was 3 deg Mark -
I believe it`s the power to weight ratio the engineers have to go by in order to make the safety aspect of the goverment happy. Have you read about the concept Bugetti car? 254mph governed top speed. 0-60 in 2.4 sec. 1000 HP 16 cyl (I believe) w/ 4 turbos and a 7 speed tranny. That thing is a heavy porker!!!! From what I`ve read the power of that thing is unreal and puts everything else to shame!!! 254mph is the limit if the tires, know one knows the true top speed. Mark

Thanks for the replys, I sent an email to NHRA afew days ago, I`m still waiting for a reply I`ll probably end up calling them when the time comes.

I`m in the prosses of a full cage and frame rail reconstruction project for my 240z and am considering a solid rear conversion while it`s in the air. I`m soon going to get a 2006 rule book but until then my daydreams are getting the better of me!! I`ve read old posts about what the rules are for back in 2002, about what times you can run before your required to change over. And the rules aren`t clear about what to do whit the datsun setup. Since then factory cars are much faster now in 2005 then in 2002 and NHRA changed the rollbar/cage rule to adjust for that. Also Sport compact cars have come into play as the times on them are also up!!! I know the strength of the R200 setup from seeing quite a few members here running unbelevable times on the it. My question is what times were you forced by NHRA rules to change over to the soild rear? 10.99? never? 2004,05, now 2006? I should state that my car is becoming a race car only and I`d like to play in the early 10`s and dabble in the 9`s if the rules allow. Mark

The pin broke on me also at 114mph. Luckly the ring gear keeps the pin from going only so far(other wise I would have been in deep doo doo). I had some damage to the pinion gear but nothing I would worry about. I thought about welding it up but the gearing was do deep any way (3:90) so I just changed it out. Mark

launching with air under the front tires
660Z replied to 660Z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Thanks for the replys to the thread, I decided i`m just going to shoot for the 10`s ...and 9`s on NOS every now and then. Since my track strickly follows the NHRA rules, I would have to change to a solid rear the faster I went, so I`m just going to bite the bullet and change over. I love the IRS system, I think it`s what gives the car one of it`s many charms, but for safety sake there`s just too many things that could go wrong for a system that wasn`t designed for 1/4 mile abuse, even though it`s stout enough to handle the power. One positive note is, I`ll feel more confident launching wheel stands with a solid rear backing me up, and if I do put in my 4sp setup I think a 9" has a better chance of holding up to the shock factor. Mark -
I`ve recently noticed 3 hybridz cars maybe more launching with the front tires hanging ( I forget the technical term) two of these cars have the irs system still in use. Needless to say I am blown away by this and would like to also achieve this in my own car. This winter I`m already planning on a cam change but am unsure if I should go with a 10" converter or putting the Richmond super T10 out of my nova into the z since It will be laying around during resteration anyway. Also I`m planning on welding one of the two rears I have a 3:54 or 3:90 And thinking of experimenting with NOS also 125-150 shot. I`m a little conflicted right now because I just found a local AutoX club that I would also like to try but I know the welded rear and 10" stall wouldn`t allow me to perticapate in this but the 4sp would. Although I still have my stock 240z to do the AutoX but the v8 one would be more fun. Any ideas on a well rounded car that can do wheel stands off the line in the 1/4? Mark

Could be the end to all the "ford 9 inch rear" questions
660Z replied to 660Z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
It`s the same suspension they use for thier Pro T car which is basicly a street legal race car. The wishbone connector mounted from the frame to the rear is adjustable for track conditions so no bars or conventional leafspring traction devices are needed. The springs are short and would probably give a hard ride. But my thinking behind all the 9" questions are for dragracing purposes. A friend of mine bought a t-bucket kit from them and was very happy with the quality of the kit he bought. I have trailer springs in the back of my truck right now for a future project from a 3000lb boat trailer and there is no way they could be subsituted for automotive use, so I think trailer springs are not an issue here. To me it looks like a good kit with a fair price. comes with everything even a a narrowed 9" rear and axles. Add brakes and a center section and hit the track. Mark -
in dragracing it was the thing before stall converters. Fairbanks was the last to make the setup for an automatic with a clutch setup. there`s another version of it in dirt track racing, where there is a solid coupling in place of the converter and the clutch pedal works a "dump Valve" in the trans valve body. Basicly when you depress the clutch pedal the valve opens and "dumps " the line pressure. relese the pedal and pressure returns. when I looked into it a few yrs ago, I was told it wouldn`t work well for dragracing because the trans needs the tourqe multiplacation of the converter for lunching off the line. Yes that`s the pin i`m talking about...my best bet would be to buy a new pin and weld up the gears. Anyone know where I can get a new pin? Leith280zlt1: thanks for your offer but this is just a spare I have laying around and a spare thought in my head. Mark

I have a 3:90 r200 with a broken center carrier pin. the gears are fine. Can I use this rear welded just for dragracing without having to replace the pin? (In other words leaving the broken pin in and welding the gears around it.

I`m getting ready to make my 240z into basicly just a dragcar with driving to and from the track only. one of the projects I want to do is remove the brake booster and datsun M/C and replace it with a nova drum brake M/C. The main reason is I`m making a simple style fenderwell header and the datsun unit would be in the way ,not to mention the resivors are plastic. I`m thinking a nova drum M/C would work because I still have the stock calipers on front and the M/C is sized for wheel cylinders so the volume should be close. Has anyone put the M/C inside the car? Like the 55 chevy under the dash kit? just doing research for now. I ran a search and didn`t come up with info I was looking for. Thanks, Mark

2866 miles and the 05 Victory 8 ball didn`t skip a beat, and with the stock seat even!!! Left from Wilmington,DE thru Gettysburg,PA down to Shannondoa National Park in VA and the Skyline dr. thru to the BlueRidge Parkway in NC until the 300mi marker. Then headed south to Charlette,NC then Savannah,GA all on back roads. Then I95 into Jacksonville, FL from there to RT1 thru St. Augustine and Daytona beach and finally to vist familly in Orlando for 4 days. When leaving took RT50 to I75, (which I75 IMHO is not motorcycle friendly) with a rest break at Don Garlets Dragracing Museum in Ocala,FL! (which was a bonus becaulse I forgot all about it being there!!) Back home on I95 until Richmond,VA where 301 was the road of choice into Annapolis,MD where there was (I assume) a Navy Graduation going on with what looked like 4 of the Blue Angel F-18 fighter jets buzzing the city in formation for what seemed like forever (yet another unexpected bonus!!) Then the ride home into DE in the pouring RAIN and COLD!!!! That was the longest most miserable part of the trip! I just wanted to get home!!!! But up until that moment it was a great trip!!! Mark

You know... That is just plain wrong!!! Here we have snow in the forcast and you guys are driving around showing off your cars with jets no less! Where is the justice! And yes im at work on a Sunday night and a little testy! Mark
