  1. Can you do the math cha cha can you do the math. I just thought of the pricing.. I paid 700 approx... I got 175 out of the neo, and hopefully 200 from the boost controller, and then there is still the ecu with harness afm etc... so I imagine the total will be a lot lower than 450 since selling the boost controller should drop it to about 275 or less... (50 for the ecu, harness, adn the stock injectors, heck I even have a turbo manifold I can throw in there.... hmmm may be a bit less ayy.) Like I said can you do the math... lol somehow I added all that stuff up in my head and came up with 250... lol umm I allready got 175 lol... And the boost controller is probablty going to sell fast for over 200.... Anyway I think I am sounding like the info I was talking about earlier circles and circles.... So till next time.
  2. moby, do you know how inspiring seeing your post's have been... If it wasn't for your posts I dont even think I would have EVER even known of megasquirt.. let alone its application to the 280zx.... I feel as though a legend has spoken to me... What I was saying is that I just purchased a module (gm hei) that has a built in rev limiter and pai over 90 for it.. I guess I should have asked about it first... oopss. But I can alway use the module I have for my chevy and swap the 2.. (as in use the one I currently have and replace it with the one I'm getting since the megasquirt has a built in rev limiter.... Boy already I have had alot of responses and good info from this site.... Oh by the way flattery will simply get you anything your little heart desires.... lol But anyway hopefully woday my megasquirt, and my used laptop come... (yeah so all in all total for the ecu swap to date will be near 700.)(But I already sold the apexi neo.., will sell the apexy super avcr II (boost controller) soon, then the ecu, and origanal harness after the install is complete...) So hopefully I can get the total spentr back to around 450... Anyway till next time.. same z channel same x time..
  3. Yeah I guess thawas sort of what I was saying in my babbling, about how I said to download it then go from there... I think that site just makes it a little trickier sounding than it is... (I may be wrong...). Also how about wiring in the ignition module... Does the megasquirt have a built in rev limiter?? I can't find that anywhere... I almost hope not since I just spent 90$ on a module instead of the 40 for the other one that was comparitive.. But anyway. I can set the rev limiter to anywhere from 5-10,000 rpms... But after I bought it I thought about the fact that this is a 6 cyl not an 8.... so Let me do simple math.... dur... so I guess I can limit it from 6666.6666 rpms, to approx. 13,333.333 rpms..... So I guess that I will set it as low as possible to start with(I was thinking I could do that and have a 5000 rpm limit.. shoot.. Now I have to start with a bit higher than expected...... But on top of that atleast my max rpm will be able to be raised from the stock 6500... I am thinking a good tune to that point and then richen and retard the timing after that rpm to start and tune from there..... Looking for a little over 7... like about 7400 I think for the limit and shift about 7300..... And see how it goes from there.... anyhow... till next time same z channel same x time
  4. Wow I am attempting to read, adn understand all the megasquirt tuning... is it just me or is it all talking in circles.... Couldn't it be put into simpler ways of reading. you know for those of us who understand that when it says somthing it doesn't have to reword it??? I try and rtead and understand thing which usualy takes a good 2 times reading the same statement to fully grasp and understand... They talk in circles... Is there any sites that give quick decisive directions instead of circle talk???? Should I wait until I get the megasquit then just down load the softeware and see if I don't understand stuff? I mean it helped with the injectors, but I am going to have to reread that part.... I mean that went circles upon circles on the injectors started here then somehow was back here then to top it off ended there also???? lol but I htought it was instruction and advice on tuning lol..... Was the writers as much of a babbler as me... anyway wow.... I think I need glasses...
  5. that 587 is completly assembled and delivered to m,y door, with all the modifications already done to it. Although I wonder what he would have charger had I gone that route instead... But this way it was assembled by the company I purchased it from (diyautotune.) of to which is a site that is recomended by the megasquirt site so hopefully I made the right decision... I mean heck it was cheaper than a preprogramed "performance" computer
  6. No, I mean the ecu was setup for a single ingnition output. And the 4 bar mapdaddy, and boost control mod where both installed in the unit.. And this also includes the harness and the sensors... Its complete... As for the tuned maps I think if you search around here you should be able to find some pretty good ideas about the basic tunes....(I hope..lol)
  7. Ok, I'm finally ditching the old flapper box and upgrading to the MEGASQUIRT:mparty: Yeah thats a dbl party...... Any way I am purchasing a FULLY assembled unit pre-modified to suit my needs.. As in run off the stock dizzy(turbo dizzy), control fuel and spark, 4 bar mapdaddy, and the boost controller feature..... Also I am getting the 2 temp sensors, harness, tuning cable, db9 adapter... Mind you the modifications to the ecu are all done by them(diyautotune) for a total of about $565... Sort of pricey.. But thats all the mods like I said. and the sensors to instal the boost control solenoid etc.... Boy if I could only solder.... Actually pretty cheap for the modifications only a few extra $(each).. Any way. I can't wait.. I'm estatic.... So if anyone wants to go the route I did its about 565 for a complete assembled m,odified ecu..... Thats 35 cheaper than a z store reprogrammed ecu.. And, I'll be able to sell my turbo ecu harness and the sensors minus the dizzy..... Ohh wait apexi afc neo, and super avcr... also will be sold...hmmmm lets see I sell them and at bare minimum get 300.... that means I spend 265..... woohoo Ok thats my 1st megasquirt post...... And I havent even paid for it yet and I am this excited....
  8. sort of how I feel.. But I got a good deal on the p90 hed (already milled)shipped for 250... Oh new rockers included... And I am goinna have to spend 50 on the valve job... So 300 and its back on the road... I'm going to get megasquirt so I can eliminate the flapper box, and actually tune my ignition and fuel curve, instead of tricking the ecu in to thinking less air is going in (less boost to a stock ecu = more timing (correct me if I'm wrong) which I think amongst other things lead to my head failure... And I figure I can always use megasquirt on another project when I fially upgrade my engine... Also on the note of a rotory swap being harder?? Im confused smaller engine in an engine bay.. engine swap = custom motor mounts no matter how you look at it... And if I did do a rotory swap I would be one who adds the oil to the fuel... Yeah its a rotella weed eater engine why??? lol.. and as for the external dump out... that could work on any car... . Of to which is one thing Ive been trying to focus on is I guess you could say universal parts, or parts I can adapt to other engines.... And as for the hp and tq curve... who needs hp when your wheels are off the ground.. but then again who needs torque when you have wings.... ok well anyway till next time...
  9. well to the v8.. I have a 350 I'm peicng together for another project... But I love the wirl wirl woosh noises of the turbo... Ohh I am going to put that in my 300zx by the way... but this just in... late breaking news.... I ended up buying a head off ebay.... So I guess its l28 for another year... But I'm megasquirting it so....... That, upgraded alternator, an aluminum crank dampner, and electric h2o pump... And I aught to be happy... so till I get my next bonus I guess its l28... but on the note of the rb20det being a low hp motor, whats that make the l28et??? that has even lower hp??? but ohh well the old mule wins again...
  10. Well I almost forgot there is also the 13b (rotory) swap... I could get a tuebo rotory swap it in with a turbo header and when I sell a few more things megasquirt that and go from there and hope it doesn't blow..... Thats one of the things thats leaning me away the rotory is I don't know of anyone with any experience with a rotory and imagine after shipping it out it could cost some money to send it out and wait for it.. etc if it did blow up... As in it might be cheaper to buy another.... So come on guys you have to have some sort of input...
  11. Thats where the whole 1200$ cheaper comes into play. I figure I can get the rb20 put it in, and get a few parts to bump up the performance and then next year I will be able to buy the rb25 and swap all the parts from this engine to that one.. alot simplier to swap it if its already there.. I mean don't get me wrong if I sell my camaro before I buy the swap I'm going rb25.. but thats doubtful.... But the whole deal is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  12. Ok well lets start where we are now (why not the begining, because it already happened) Well I'm debating swapping a rb20det in place of my l28.. Why the 20? mostly the cost (well ok only the cost). I would love to keep the l28, but I burnt my head badly(as in little wholes in a combustion chamber and it looks like white hollowed rocks???). So do I get another p90 and go from there? 250 for the head, 250 for machining... so theres 500 more in this motor.. (and how much for gaskets) So if I do that there goes 500. I do that and get megasquirt, and either an electric exhust dump, or electric h20 pump... And I am pretty much broke..... If I buy the rb.. I buy the rb, sell al the parts from my l28,(valves, cam, valve springs, motorsports racing oil pump, n42 intake, ecu harness injectors, pistons, act clutch, fidanza aluminum fly....... etc) and dump this money into the rb20 for things like header, timing belt, cam gears, the basics. and bring this rb to the power level my l28 was at (and be able to add everything that was on like meth inj and the likes) and have a car that has as much power with more throttle response (lets face it a 280zxt stock ecu isn't exactly race oreiented) and probably alot more reliablity... for the same amount (after my rumage sale) as I would doing the l28 1 step farther.... Oh and I also have a 300zx turbo ecu, harness Ill be selling along with injectors. etc whole 9 yards... anyone looking for an 89 camaro 5 speed v8??? lol 1000 runs drives awsome car good rubber all 4 corners.... and with that said and done I would also be able to sell the turbo, and dump pipe etc off the rb... (keeping the turbonetics...) So basicly here are my options l28 with current mods + megasquirt+ either electric h20, or dump out+ (almost forgot I thought I forgot something) upgraded alternator Or rb20det + header + my turbonetics + cam gears + installation (driveshaft) (custom motor mounts) + whatever else I can afford, depending on how sales go may even be another 500..... ARP headstuds, comotec head gasket, clear timing cover....... So let me know what you think.... give it all to me the good the bad the ugly (oh and the oooh so sexy jdm bling).......
  13. that does sound like a good idea.. but the term "anti lag system" refers to a system that retards the ignition until a certain level of boost is reached in order to create a explosion down stream of the combustion chamber (in the manifold) to spool the turbo rediculously fast.... I think thats the jist of it.. also the large diameter exducer in comparison to the inducer on both intake and exhaust yet again to really increase spooling (no lag) But that could help I'm guessing you mean so you could leave it floored while you shifted correct? Also speaking of spiiting flames.. I had a 92 saturn that would spit flames every shift above 5000 ( even if a cop was flying past you) any way just thought I would throw a few words out there...
  14. Well the upgrades keep piling up and I haven't even started to put them on yet... Lets see here. I just got a air to water intercooler, heat exchanger, surge tank, and pump.. haven't even started to try and install them yet. I am still waiting on an earles oil cooler to get here. (still gotta get the sandwich adapter though). I alos have everthing except a few fittings to make my nitrous kit a direct port, but to do that I have to remove my intake and play with that for some time. I have also just purchased a methanol injection kit to install on it ... I also have a fitting for my bov to convert it to recirculation type for less lag on shifts... I haven't decided if I want to get another larger turo yet..... I am sorta still in limbo on that one.... everybody says lag blah blah blah... I like the 1.5-2 second flat spot before the power...... hhhmmmm any other sort of upgrade I can do???? hhhhmmmmm last year in a 3 week period I tried to shave a full second off my 18th with out the use of tires (and that was before the nitrous also) couldn't do it though.. only .7 seconds came off.... But since then I have gotten a few goodies.... (methanol inj, liquid intercoller nitrous(soon to be direct port) a little more weight savings (the sound deadening tar and little things here and there) Im shooting for low 7's with out drags slick or dot radial.. just regular street tires... considering last years were high to mid 8's I think with these mods, yanking out the dash, no passenger seat, and a plastic bucket drivers seat..... I think the low 7's should be a breeze...... If I could get some tires I seriously think low 6's could be done if I achive the low 7's.. since I am out of the power for atleast a full second before the turbo spools (If I try and spool it sooner I spin) ANd if I could launch har (already in the boost) And had traction I could hold the nitrous to go that much more.........Any way just wanted to lay out my late winter plans.... Who needs aero when you go horse power So let me know what you think.... thanking you all in advance for your input.....
  15. Well, I have finaly seen the "bumperless 280zx" in the first post... not a personal, but as I always say to all his own..... But I think now after seeing it done, with the right sculpting, I think you could clean the front up, between a little metal and a little glass you could get a large "flowing"(clean looking flow that is) without alot of work... But it depends where and what direction your going to spend most of your time... High speeds, close it up, low speed, keep it open, low speed high rpm drifting, open it up as far as possible.... Boy.... Hmmmm do I want a quicker, or a drifter......
  16. where did you get that front bumper??? Thats the baddest one I've seen... Is it custom? If not where can I get one... Or is that stock JDM??? either way sweet.
  17. I have a 1983 280zx I like to consider highly modified.. I put a turbo on and got a huge wing with 20's.... No not really. But I do have a 280zx I like to consider highly modified. Lets see ported polished p90 head 1mm overbored block balanced roting assembly high volume "high" pressure oil pump arp head studs Schnieder stage 2 turbo race only cams matching springs ss undercut stemed valves modified turbo manifold for 38mm wastegate, and my turbo turbonetics full size 60-1 24x12x3 fmic 440cc injectors full poly bushing kit kybgr2 turbo f+r sway bars and springs ac delete, electric fan conversion, anything unneeded removed 300zx seats 70 hp nitrous (obviously wet) walboro 255 lph pump act 4 puck unsprung hub clutch fidanza aluminum flywheel msd blaster 2 coil, accel superstock wires, iridium plugs(2 levels cooler) apexi super avcr lexan rear glass(huge weight differnce)(soon to include sides) aluminum radiator hid headlights (even there lighter) drilled slotted rotors ss brake lines 3" turbo back exhaust the list goes on and on and on...... About to start the bodywork Including rear quarter work, Custom tail lights (want recessed led's but not sure yet) front end... I currently have a half front bumper on there, when I was in my whole look at my intercooler deal more air = better... No bad idea its time for aero to play its role, a fiberglass dash for astetics, and weight reduction(every ounce counts) also looking to do a 5 lug conversion, direct port my nitrous (have everything but the jets), liquid intercooler in place of my fm, meth injection (just need to install peiced together sort of deal also going to be a direct port....) And thinking I'm going to do a sequential turbo.... All before next summer Well anyway....... Is this the sort of deal your looking for..... also I think I'm going to get some lightweight seats too...... anyway till next time
  18. Now thats a boat load of money for a rebuild.... I mean I got like 3000 in my engine. But thats no stroker... lol... If I gotta pay 7000 for the stroker somethings wrong there. But I also have a local machine shop that explained every step how to persue what future steps should be, potential limits of the current setup, thiings they recommend to do things not to do etc... I spent probably 20-30 hours talking about that sort of thing Before during and after the whole process..... I am happy with my current setup for what it is... But I am not satisfied enough to say its the same motor that will be in it next summer...... But if I had that money in it I better be happy for a long time..... Hell I am going to replace my whole bottom end fully machined and still have less than your 1st time over... I might even be able to fit my turbo setup in that price lol...... Either way good luck
  19. You know what sucks is I couldn't even see the first pic of the bumperless 280..... It appears to be highly shadowed....As in I can see any of the front , I can see the rest... Just not the front...
  20. I blew the #5 cylinder on my l28 and I bought a 280zx that snapped the #5 rod on an otherwise stock turbo setup...... hhhmmmmmm... Also my #'s 4+6 were close behind (badly misshaped), 3 shown signs(definitely not round), 2 wasn't quite perfect(slightly slightly not round)and the #1 looked good...... Damn felpro print-o-seal... I'm getting a cheap graphite gasket... I also run 24 psi..... ran 18 all the time.. always on 93... never added anything to up grade... I think I'm going to try leaded and run 27 though.... lol..... replace o2 sensor regularly...lol.... Only after I get a dual turbo and methanol inj.
  21. Then you'll want to get the added flow out. I imagine with a high flow exhaust, and a header and you would see a very respectable difference. But it also depends what was done to the intake and how much it sells for. If he just bolted a 60mm tb to it.... no difference would be there, and would hinder flow if the tb isn't blended into the intake. Not enough info or pictures to make an accurate description... did I confuse you enough lol.... But if they did it properly it would probably be an improvement as long as you improve your flow out of the car as well(exhaust upgrade at very least).... good luck
  22. Well thats what I was wondering.. And the tires were 205 65 15's (swastika). I also never said the car was stock. I was asking if you were saying that the cars aero was what was restricting the top speed. It just sounded like you were saying that it wouldn't go over x mph. This car has gobs more power and I guess I see your point because I had a 84 camaro that I dropped a stock 350 into it. With a th400 and a final drive of 3.73 with 225 60 16 I pegged that right out... litterally. 3rd gear (3 speed auto) pulled 7000 rpms do the math.... approx 170. But that car had almost no power comparitively speaking. as to where the 280 has gobs and 0-100 would make the camaro look dumb it wasn't as fast after that. (probably still quicker than the camaro was but...) any way... I don't even know whta just reminded me of the camaro... Also yes the camaro engine was a stock 350 minus a upgraded ignition (coil and module) and a edelbrock rpm performer. and that car swallowed a pushrod and lifter that day... don't know why???? lol But anyway I just now relized yes aero has a major role in tops... I guess I had to relate it to real life to realize it... feed me more knowledge...lol so till next time
  23. As in the 280zx body couldn't go that fast? or a stock na??? I can max 5th gear out quick as ♥♥♥♥. Stock 83 turbo rear diff. and trans. Yes 6500 in 5th. So I was wondering???? How fast is it???? lol
  24. 3 for me. Only 1 left 1st died before its own birth. Rotted floor completely off the body. Second $150 no title 2=2 no rust anywhere solid floors and all (2 rust holes in floor largest was smaller than a $. Cut it up because no title. Now I have a mock up engine bay. 3rd is in my driveway.....(shaded car port..)
  25. Hand sanding isn't as bad as you may think... I have hand sanded a many a times.. With my hand.... To be more exact the palm section of the hand..... Also only sand up to bends.. (points) treat a point as different flat points(as in sand up to the point but not over) sand all surfaces but no edges Hmmmm I wonder how much for 2 gallons of rusto, and the sand paper......hmmm I may fix my rear quarters sooner than later...
