  1. Ross, I have a questions regarding your CV adapters. I have 1973 240Z with a stock drive-train (R180 UJ half-shafts, etc...). I will be putting in a R200 (75-83 280Z-ZX) and would like to upgrade to the 280Z stub axles. What exactly do I need to complete the conversion to CV half-shafts?
  2. I think these might incorporate into the Z rear shape. You would have to bury them a bit into a modified Z "tail-light surround" unless can you figure out to make the wrap-around part work. And if that don't work I think this is the way to go.
  3. For those of you that stripped your Z down to bare metal, how did you do it? Chemical? If so, what did you use? Sanding? Can you make a fist yet? Bead Blasting? Home Equipment, or take it to a professional? Other???
  4. The cost should be around $120.00 to $160.00 depending on what options you get. Check out www.speedhut.com for details. I not the least bit uncomfortble handing over a CC number as part of a pre-order. Because unlike other payment methods, it's very easy to dispute CC charges.
  5. I just received a bit of news. Speed Hut should be able to take orders around the middle of next week. After 20 orders they start tooling up. And I as far as I know it is only for '70 thru '78 Z's. Specifically '73-'74, Other years require you to send a digital photo of your gauge package. But if you get 20 280ZX owners together to pre-order they'll make 'em for you too. check out the thread over at Classic Zcar Club and post your questions to "240 4U2NV" He's ram-rodding this thing.
  6. Over at the "Classic Zcar Club" website there is a thread for those who would like to order Speed Hut custom "Indiglo" gauge faces. Speed Hut needs 20 orders to begin tooling up to make them. I think this is a far superior option to the MSA white face gauge kit, and even superior to the Autometer gauges if you can use the stock gauges (why can't you?), because you get to keep your dual-gauge center cluster gauges.
  7. Don't sell. Sit at home and collect parts. Get on a first name basis with the UPS dude.
  8. Anybody know of problems mounting 300ZX seats in a 240Z?
  9. I under stand that the JTR Engine mounts will not work, but can you not modify the setback plates to work with the LS1? By "modify" I mean use the drawings to fabricate plates that match up with the LS1 and Datsun cross member mounts using the JTR or similar spacers. P.S. I bet the folks at www.hotrodlane.cc can solve all your accessory mounting problems, but probably not cheaply.
  10. Thanks of the warning Ron. Lucky for me we have a HarborFreight outlet store near here so if I have any problems I can get "personal" with them. And I am leaning towards the Puma.
  11. Another Differnce between the Miller and Hobart is that the Hobart has four voltage settings and the Miller has infinite voltage settings.
  12. Thanks for the links Jim Powers. I completely forgot about HarborFreight. I'll take a look at them. I kind'a like this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=5730 Does anybody know anything about Puma air compressors? As for the "Hick" remark, I think he may have been referring the gentleman in the photograph above. I believe the guy is an employee of "Eaton Compressor & Fabrication."
  13. These are the best I could find for the same or lower price. Champion Model No. 6.5V80E $882.00 Craftsman Professional 80 gal. Air Compressor $850.00 (Sears) Ingersoll-Rand 60 gal. Air Compressor, 5 hp, Vertical Tank, 2-Stage Pump $1000.00 (Sears) Campbell Hausfeld Model: HS7815 $800.00 Porter-Cable 7 HP 80 Gallon 2-Stage Oil Lube Air Compressor $794.00 And none of them match the CFM @ PSI rating of the unit above. And this is true of most of the two stage units I looked at. What is the advantage of a two stage over a single stage? P.S. I'm an aircraft mechanic (A&P) by trade, so I have lots of air tools, but no compressor.
  14. I know little of Air compressors. What I do know I learned from friends that own them. The things they have told to look for were... 1. AVOID oil-less compressors. They don't last under heavy usage (Sanding, grinding, painting) 2. If you plan to do a lot of Sanding, painting, get a large capacity tank. (80 gal or more) 3. AVOID Single stage pumps. (I forget why) The biggest difference between 115v and 230v units is the Horse Power of the motor. I think 3.5hp is the most you'll get out of 115 volts. What doe this mean? I think it means two things... 1. It will take longer for your tank to get up to pressure. 2. The compressor will run at higher RPM. (More noise, more wear and tear, etc...) Any way, thanks for feedback on the compressor above. I've just about convinced myself to buy it. The only problem I have with it is the shipping charges. Almost $200.00!
  15. I'm looking to spend no more than $1000.00. I'll need it for some sanding, grinding, cutting and light painting. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1746501178
  16. Your In-dash Laptop plus Edelbrock’s QwikData™ Data Acquisition System could do that.
  17. Forget all about what JTR Says about computer controlled, fuel injected engines. Both Painless Wiring & Street & Performance offer "easy" wiring solutions to Fuel injected, computer controlled engines. .
  18. Wow, that Motown 427 sure is sweet. I wonder how much it weights. I also worry that it wouldn’t be too street friendly. The LT5 is just too rare and costly to be practical. I wonder if it would it fit under the stock hood of a Z. It sure would look sweet sitting in the engine bay though. Definitely a project for someone with more money than me. Right now I’m about half way to having enough money saved to get a used LS1 / T56 combo. The LS6 is also too rare and costly to be practical. Besides, it wouldn't difficult at all to squeeze 405hp out of a much cheaper LS1. (Fully dressed LS1 weights about 450lbs) I posted it because www.hotrodlane.cc (Street & Performance) is first place I've seen that offers Crate LS6's.
  19. My mechincal locks work. So if lose power I just use the key. But a remote power connector does sound like a good idea. Specially if you decide to "French" the door handle and locks.
  20. Not really a solution to your problem, but once you go keyless you'll never go back. Universal Power Door Lock Kit Keyless Remote Entry system
  21. $10,000.00 (reserve not yet met) for a used LT5! The BRAND NEW crate LS6 (Corvette Z06) engine above is "only" $8100.00. (including the chrome doodads).
  22. MY KINGDOM FOR 405 HORSES! http://www.hotrodlane.cc/
  23. I'd hold out. Look at this... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1839219762 and the "Buy it Now" price is $3900.00 If only I had the cash right now.
  24. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1838389257 Only two days left.
