  1. If it was a lifter though wouldnt that stop it from moving up and down like a normal lifter. All the lifters seem to be moving the same amount? Guy
  2. Well I have it up on stands now. I tried to pin point the noise and I "think" its coming from the bottom end? Man I really hope its not my rod bearings! I would be very pi$$ed off! Oh and my rear main seal is not leaking its the oil pan gasket. So atleast I dont have to pull the tranny! I am going to pull the pan tommorow night to further investigate the ticking noise. Oh and this noise just started when I switched over to Mobile 1 Synthetic? I think I might dump that oil and put some mineral based back in to see if it changes it all. Heck Im dumping the oil anyway I might as well try it! There goes $25 worth of 50 miles old oil! Guy

  4. Yeah the LT1 was "made" for a 280ZX V8 conversion. However like other small block chevys(SBC) the drivers side exhaust header/manifold is still an issue. I used the stock LT1 manifold on the drivers side cause it fit perfect. However for the passenger side I used a small header(smaller than a blockhugger, height wise). I should have just used a "ramhorn" style manifold on that side because the header that I have on there now has been nothing but a problem from day one!(it leaks like you wouldnt beleive!) But they all seem to be working! The question you are asking have been answered a hundred times and all you have to do to get the answer is use the "search function" Trust me you will find more than enough info on a 280zx V8 swap.   8. Now Im not 100% sure if I actually am hearing some thing but I am going to try to find out if there is something wrong with my engine or if its just the injectors that I am hearing. I can hear a ticking sound when the engine is idling(800-900rpms ) and once I give it more throttle it seems to go away. Now Im not sure if its still there and I just cant hear it over the exhaust? How can I check for... 1.) bad rod bearings 2.) bad lifters/collapsed lifters 3.) bad rocker arms What else could cause a ticking sound? I know its not an exhaust leak. It is coming from the drivers side(I think). I pulled the valve cover off tonight and all the rocker arms are moving and look normal? I also pulled the injector harness off the drivers side 4 injectors one at a time to see if the ticking would go away, but it didnt(would this be the same as pulling off a spark plug wire to see if a rod bearing is bad?) Oh yeah and Im not feeling any lose of power either? I just want to make sure that Im not doing any damage internally. I say better safe than sorry! Its going up on jack stands tommorow for some things that need to be done so I will try to pin point the ticking noise if I can. Guy
  9. Yeah Im also impressed with the #'s. You shoul have about 375HP at the crank then!(thats with a 15 % drivetrain loss) Isn't the torque usually higher than the horsepower though? Oh and do you have the LT4 Hotcam or just the LT4 cam? Guy
  10. The reason that the pre 96' engines are better is because it is a lot cheaper to have the computer tuned or buy software to tune them because they are OBD1 engines. In 1996 they went to a OBD2 system for all cars that are to be used in the US. Its basically just a set of guidelines all manufactures that want cars in the US have to follow. Its things like emission controls, location of the scanner connector(underdash connector), etc. I think with a supercharger on that engine it would make a great swap. You could have 400HP easy and save some weight with 2 less cylinders! I thought about doing it but choose the V8 N/A route instead. Although it is a possiblity for my next swap! Guy

  15. Yeah for the most part all the "gremlins" are worked out. I still have to fix my header once and for all! But atleast I know what is wrong there! I plan on taking it off this week and and welding it up so that there is no possible places for it to leak. It wont be pretty but it will be finally fixed. Guy

  17. Ok so I am bored tonight so I figure I will cruise into town and look for some trouble. So I go over to pick up a buddy of mine and we head into town(30 miles away! ) So we head down into the heart of Appleton and start to cruise lookin for "trouble", aka ricers. Well I went through town twice down the main roads that there is normally people cruising and we didnt really find anything that I could mess with. So I said "ah one more time and then we can call her a night" so I turned around to head back into town and I get stopped at a light. So we are sitting there and the light turns green and we start to go but there is a full size truck that pulls out on me! So he gets in the left lane and Im already in the right lane so I gun it to pass him to show him that he was an A-hole for pulling out on me, and I go flying by him. Then we get stopped at the next light and he pulls up and its 2 guys that are about 16-17 years old, and the passenger turns over and says "hey what the hell is that?" and I look over to him and say "its a Datsun" and he goes "its a what?" So I was like "its a DATSUN" hes like "who makes that?" "Nissan" I say back. Now I've peaked his interests and he's like "what you got in there?" not wanting to give up too much info I say "stuff! " and hes like "no really, what do you have in there?" and I say "stuff" again. Hes like "oh so your just another ricer?" that really kinda set me off! So hes buddys like "you got a 350 in there?" and I was like yeah "chevy 350". Then the light turns green and we go. Since we are both turning left (we were both in left turn lanes) we are still side by side so I decied to do "as show of power" So I drop it down in 2nd at about 30mph and do a nice little burn out! Then he gets behind me and gets in the right turn lane. Since I had to slow down for the car in front of me, he gets next to me and the driver yells out the window "holly $hit thats a fast a$$ car!" So we continue on and head home. But before we get home I stop in a little town called Black Creek which is 15 mile from the town that we were just in. So we go in and my buddy goes in back to grab a Gatorade and I go to the Tyme machine to get some cash. Thats right about the time I see a truck pull up in front of my car, which is parked right infront of the window where I am getting money from the Tyme machin, I look at the truck and I think "no way, that cant be those guys, we're like 15 miles from town!" So I yell back to my buddy "hey I think its those guys that like my car!" My buddys like "no way, it cant be" I'm like "yeah I think it is....." So we pay for our stuff and we go outside and sure enough its those 2 guys! I was like "whats up" and their like "man we had to stop once we saw your car here" I was like "let me guess you want to see whats under the hood?" their like "hell ya we do!" So I pop the hood and you should have seen their faces! Their like "WOW whats that out of?!" I say "a 93' Camaro Z28" then one of the guys goes "is that a Vette engine" and Im thinking "hmm I thought I just said it was out of a 93' Camaro Z28?" So I just say "no but its got a cam like the LT4 vettes but its a little bit bigger" Then the passenger goes(while looking at my strut braces)"what do you think your engine is going to go flying out?" and "I was like nope those are to help keep the car straight when I accelerate hard" then I got the "Oh"("Oh" like I have no idea what you are talking about but I dont want to ask any more questions about it because I would feel stupid if I did). Then the driver goes "all I know is I have never seen a car accelerat that fast before!" I was like " " I didnt really know what to say to that! All I could do was smile! Oh those guys made my night. I can't wait till its painted up and has not only the "GO" but also has the "SHOW" Guy

  21. In my LT1 280ZX I have a CSI electric water pump, 1 speed Ford Taurus electric fan and a Griffin 26x19 2 core aluminum radiator. Now for like the past 2 weeks we have had some 90+ degree days...My car still runs at the 180 degrees that I want it to. I could actually make it run cooler by turning the fan on sooner but 180 degrees is a good temp for me! I think with the combination of the aluminum radiator, the taurus(even if it is only the 1 speed fan), and the CSI electric water pump it is perfect for cooling a Z/ZX! Guy
