I just noticed something in one of your previouse post on this subject...."useless shiny thing" So does that mean you have a chrome oil pan? Cause if you do you have to scuff up the gasket area or it will continue to leak even with a 1 piece gasket! Jusg get out some fine-meduim grit sandpaper and scuff it up and that should stop it from leaking wih the new gasket on there! Guy

Ok well the good news is that I am pretty sure I figured out what the ticking noise is.... It looks like its the lifters. It has to be because the noise is coming from the intake area and the only thing under the intake is the lifters! Now what can I do to fix this? Can I just find the bad lifter and put in a new one? Or can I find the bad lifter and "unclog" it if it has a piece of dirt in it that is causing it to not "pump" up properly? Also what is chance that my cam is junk now? What are my options here? Guy

I didnt pay anything for my car but I did have to pay $1600 to get it trucked over here(wisconsin) from California! I enhearted my car from my father when he pasted away 4 years ago. It had 109,xxx miles on it and NO rust! Gotta love those CA cars!

LOL Now as far as what is the easiest for a 280ZX 350 swap? I think you should got the EFI route and go with either the LT1 or the LS1. The LT1 will be cheaper but the LS1 has the "wow factor". If I had done more research I would have gone with the LS1 instead of the LT1 for my 280ZX. Dont get me wrong the LT1 is awsome but the LS1 just has that "ooo ahhhhhh" about it! Yes both of these engines are kind of pricey but they will be the easest to swap in the 280ZX. The LS1 mounts a little differnt but for and engine swap that is the least of your problems! The LT1 is still mounted like the old 350's so that isnt a problem. Do a search on my user name and you will see what I mean, or just go to my site(http://www.datsun-280zx-lt1.com) Guy

Oh well then its not "spark arcing" All my wires are on nice and tight. If I hooked my PCM up to the scanner it would tell me if the timing is being retared or advaced right? If it was being retard then that would tell me that the PCM's knock sensor are "hearing" the noise too. Guy

Well I adjusted my valve lash but the noise is still there? I am beginning to wonder if its just normal. I wouldnt have been able to hear it before when I had my "high idle problem" when it ran at like 1200-1500rpms! I guess I will just have to drive it to see if it gets worse or if it just stays the same. If it was a rod would the noise get louder with RPMS? I would think it would, right? Heres the deal.... All my lifters are pumping oil up the pushrods, they all seem to be moving the same amount and they are all adjusted properly. When I pulled the pan everything seemed to be alright. No big chunks of metal in the pan. That was a relief! So what do you guys think...runner see what happens?

Heres two I just found... I think this body kit looks pretty cool. I dont like the cheezy fog lights on the front air dam though! Is that an MSA kit that has been modified??? After seeing this car, I am thinking about putting those louvers in the fenders. I really like those! Guy

Joe that is exactly what I am talking about...you dont even have to brag you can have your friends do it for you with out asking!! 8) Last night I met up with an old high school class mate. He was talking about his vehicles and he said "yeah I bought a 93' Camaro Z28 with the 350 and the 6 speed tranny in it for $2000" I was like wow thats a great deal!" I told him that motor and tranny are worth that alone! Then he goes on to talk about how fast it is......"ya my Camaro will whoop up on anybody" thats when my buddy steps in a goes "woooo buddy, I dont think so! Guy here has a car that will whoop your ass hands down!!!" Then the other guy is like "oh really? well what do you have?" So I told him and hes like "nope I'll still beat you!" Thats when I stepped in....I was like "I have the same drivetrain as you except I have warmed my engine up to 400HP and not to mention my car weights a good 500lbs less than yours!" He kinda shut up right about then and stopped the smack talk'n! It was funny cause one minute hes bragging about how fast his car is and the next minute hes not talking about it anymore cause he know that if we ever meet on the street that I'll smoke his a$$ like no tommorow! Yeah its hillarious watching your buddies expressions when you really get into the gas when their not expecting it or when you can break the tires loose in the first 4 gears! Non of my friends can beleive how fast my car is! They all think its the fastest thing on 4 wheels. I know its not but to them it is. They go tell their friends(people that I dont know), how fast my car is and that I could beat anything that they have. I on the other hand try to stay pretty modest about my car because you never really know whats under the hood of the other guys car! I do know that my car will be most street cars just due to the "HP to Weight Ratio"! I still havent had the chance to race anything worth racing though. Every time I drive my car the only thing I see to race are Neons and Hondas and we all know that 99 out of 100 of those cars wont beat a V8 Z/ZX! Guy

Dont worry Tom I didnt take them as insults! I appreciate all the help I can get! I will adjust them tommorow night before I pull the pan. I wasnt going to pull any of the caps, I was just going to see if there were large amounts of bearing in the pan and if any of the rods were loose. So how do I adjust the rocker arms with it running? Well I am 100% sure its not an exhaust leak. It seems to be coming from the top of the engine and not the side. I have already tried unplugging each injector but that doesnt seem to make any change in the noise. The noise does not get any louder with RPMS...that I can notice anyways? I was using 10W-30 Mobile 1.(After 1500 miles of break in mineral oil) I changed back over to Quaker State 10W-30 to see if the noise would change but it didnt do a thing. There wasnt any metal in the oil when I changed that was noticable. Now about a collapsed lifter...what would cause it to collapse? The motor seems to be running fine but theres just this ticking noise that I am worried about. I am not going to drive it until I find out what it is. I cant afford to build another motor! In my 280ZX LT1/T56(93') I can cruise at 90MPH @ about 2200RPMS! I have a 3.55 rear end. So basically 6th gear is almost useless...unless you are doing a HIGH SPEED RUN! However like the other guys are saying...the T56 will take more abuse no doubt about it. I think its rated at like 450Ft-Lbs! Guy

Well I know the injectors make a ticking noise but Im just not 100% sure that's the noise that Im hearing though. I have to drop the pan anyways to change my pan gasket because its leaking so I wll just check over the rod bearings to make sure they are all there! Guy

My step-dad is a pilot. We have a 1949 Cessna 170(maybe its a 172?) Taildragger. Its currently in restoration project though. So it hasnt seen the "friendly skys" in like 3 years! We also have an "Areonca(SP?) Deffender" not sure what year that one is? Yeah my step-dad is big into flying. Hes an Aircraft Inspector for United Airlines and hes a big time skydiver! He tried to get me to be a airplane mechanic but that wansnt my thing! Cars are! Guy
