  1. Are you building this for a drag only car? Cause if not then the Powerglide is not the way to go. Heck even if your are using this just for a drag car I still dont think its the way to go. Most guys who use a Powerglide use a 2 speed rear end, this way they have 4 gear combinations. Dont aske me what a 2 speed rear end is cause I myself dont know. Thats just what I have heard about using a Powerglide. Guy
  2. Come on guys lets not start a flaming war! I think 150mph is bit fast for a STOCK Z but with a few mods I think it can be done safely. I also think that JoeinCA is a big boy and can make the right decisions on his own. If he thinks he can beat this guy up to 150mph then let him. If hes racing him and he doesnt think that his car can handle the speed then Im sure he will slow down, right Joe?! I personally dont think its a good idea to be doing this race at night, you did say at 2:00am right? Anyways I hope that you(Joe) beat this guys a$$ big time and show him that the Camaro SS is not the fast car on the block! Guy
  3. Yeah no kidding! I really hate the Yankees too! You just knew once they started to come back in the eight, that they were going to pull off the win. I doubt too many people that dont normally(like myself) watch baseball will watch the world series. I know I wont. I could care less who wins. Of course it would be really sweet to see Florida sweet the series 4-0! Send those Yanks home complete losers! Guy
  4. Have you tried MSA....(http://www.zcarparts.com)? Thats where I got my 4 point roll bar from for my 80' 280ZX. I think the cage was like $600+ though ! Guy
  5. Do you also have to have a full cage for 11's? Just curious! Guy
  6. I say race him to 100mph and you should win then but those SS have huge advantage up at those high MPH because they have 25+ years of aerodynamics on you! I dont think you really want to take a 280Z up to 150 with out some serious body modifications. Guy
  7. The strut brace looks nice! I basically have the same design for my 280ZX but I dont have those plates at the corners. When I made mine everyone asked me if they thought mine would even work because I couldnt adjust mine to put tension on them. I can see from yours that yours are also non-adjustable...what do the guys that made them think? Are they going to function like a strut brace that is adjustable or will they be less sturdy? I figure they're better than nothing! And since they are custom fitted to our own vehicle they should be a pretty tight fit anyways, right?! Guy
  8. Well I have a V8 in my 280ZX..... I love reading about the Turbo Charged L6's. Especially the Twin Turbo L6! I dont really care if your car still has the stock engine in it, just as long as you are trying to make it faster than it was! If thats the way you want to make your car faster then all the more power to you! The reason that I refuse to go to ZCar.com is because of the "purist" type of attitude. I almost got my head ripped off when I started asking about V8 conversions. I took a lot of crap after that post. All I would ever hear is "ah arent you going to put a V8 in your car? so why do you care about the L28 engine?" I was still in the decision stage of my swap and I wasnt sure if I was going to go with the L28 Turbo or the V8. I choose the V8 because I was more familiar with the V8 and I wanted as few problems as possible for my first engine swap. This worked for me but for a lot of guys the L28 Turbo works great! I say as long as your not a "PURIST" then your welcome to stay! Guy
  9. With my T56(93' out of a Camaro, .62:1 6th gear) and 3.545 gears in the rear...I am cruising at 90mph @about 2100RPMS I think its great for cruising on the highway! 1st gear for me is still very useable too. I dont know for sure what my 1st gear ratio is though? Guy
  10. I remember thinking the same thing about my 280ZX..."wow there sure is a lot of room in there, heck I might be able to get headers on there even" Yeah right headers! I can get a standard block hugger on the passenger side but I have to fabricate my own on the drivers side due to the large gear box that sits right in front of the 2 center exhaust ports! Just wait till you get all the manifolds and the fan and radiator and all the extra little things in there. Then you will see how much "extra" room really is in there! So when are you going to post some pictures? Guy
  11. Just buy the new IR TNT...1000Ft-Lbs of torque!!!! I bought one and boy is it nice! Of course I use it every day at work so I didnt want to buy a cheap one. It costed me $250 and it is worth every penny! I havent encountered a bolt that I couldnt get off with it yet. Guy
  12. Actually I think you have two tools there....one is a serpentine belt tool kit(the long metal rods and the set of attachments) and that claw looking this is an oil filter wrench that you can attach to your 3/8" drive wratchet and extension. I have both of them at work. The oil filter wrench works great on deisels and on new vehicles(Dodge torques their oil filters at the factory to like 1,000 Ft-Lbs! Atleast thats what it seems like! ) Guy
  13. I noticed in the pic that Davyz posted that it looks like your radiator has a bracket welded on it? How is it mounted? Guy
  14. Normally you would be right but the JTR kit and manual does NOT cover the Z32's, however the manual does teach you the fundimentals of a engine swap. Guy
  15. Sweeeeeet video! I loved the "Star Wars" type scrolling of the words at the end! Cant wait to see you in the 10's! Guy
  16. No there are a few more differences between the all of the LT1's....The Camaro LT1's have a better cam, alluminium heads, and most likely higher compression(10.5:1 in the Camaro I dont know what the Caprices had?) The Camaro LT1 was rated at 285HP while the Caprice is rated at 265HP......now the Corvette has yet an even better cam, better flowing heads than the Camaro and even higher compression(10.8:1). I think the Corvette was rated at 320HP? If your going to leave it stock then all this may matter to you but if your going to end up putting after market parts on(heads, cam, pistons, etc) then this really doesnt matter. The iron heads on the Caprice supposedly flow better than the alluminim heads but they also weigh twice as much! and it a Z any saved weight upfront is a good thing! Do some more searching on here in and go too http://www.lt1tech.com if you want more info on the LT1. Guy [/u]
  17. Hey jmead easy killer! I thought some by the name of "nsxperformace" or something like that was working on a "kit" for the Z32 swap? Guy
  18. Are you sure it wasnt just a halfshaft? That should have gave before the R200 did? Guy
  19. Well if you cant reason with the owner of the shop to do it over then here's what I would do.... Just wait until its really busy there and go in and start yelling about what a shitty job they did and just basically through the biggest $hit fit you can! You may not get your money back or the job done right but atleast they could loose some buisness! "Eye for an Eye" Guy
  20. Well if your going to spend $750 on an LSD you might as well spend the extra $250 and pay for a Quafie! Guy
  21. Well I havent really notice an increase in this type of "flaming wars" yet but I hope that it doesnt become an issue down the road. I really like seeing pics and info on crazy hybrids(like the Mazda LS1!) and I dont mind if guys post info on other hybrids but if they start posting about how fast their car is and how it could smoke every Z/ZX on the board then I really frown on that. It's kinda like what has happen to most of the Chevy sites that I have been on...Ford guys come on just to piss off the Chevy guys. Its really childish and I dont want to see that happen here! Oh and Thurem....
  22. The R200 should hold 350-400 easy. Maybe the one you had was ready to go? I think you should find another R200 and see what happens. Otherwise I think you are looking at a R230 swap. Guy
  23. Heres how much my 280ZX has costed me so far to swap in my LT1/T56... http://www.datsun-280zx-lt1.com/Big_Pictures/OtherStuff/Money-on-ZX-Conversion.txt This also includes some L28 engine parts that I bought before I started the LT1 V8 conversion. It also includes some interior parts also, but you should get the idea! Guy
  24. Hey Brad D what size and brand of tires are you running at the track? I saw in a previous post that your running 225/45/17 BFG Drag radials, is that what you run at the track? If so then how do you get it to hook so good? 11.75 seems really fast for "only" 348rwhp. I should be in the same neighbor hood with HP with my LT1 (400HP@crank = 348@ wheels with a 13% drivetrain loss) I know my car will weight about 500lbs more then yours so low 12's should be doable right? Guy
