Need some help with 4 cylinder circle track racing(dirt)...
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Non Tech Board
A little update on the car... We are using a 1996 neon. We sold the Probe. The car is pretty stripped down on the inside and we are trying to sell as much of the interior as possible to recoupe some of the $350 that we paid for the car. The engine has been a fun learning experience thats for sure! We are using the 2.4L block under the 2.0 SOHC head. We did some research and a few guys said that it was doable with 99% stock parts. I dont know what they hell they were talking about because we have had to hack up the timing covers and mesh them together, modify the timing belt tensioner bracket, modify the alternator bracket, get a different alternator belt, modify the p/s bracket and other odds and ends. We also have to remove the p/s pump pulley and use a serp belt pulley rather than a V-belt. This is the only thing that might raise suspicion. everything else looks very stock. With a 20% increase in displacement we are hoping to gain roughly 20-30HP/TQ over the 132HP stock. We know its not a lot but it might be the edge we need to make up for our crappy/novice driving! Well apparently the one that I passed was very small. I didnt even see it or feel it come out. The doctor said I probably built up enough pressure to pass it from the kidney to the bladder and it broke up on the way. I am hoping that with a changed diet and a lot more water that the other 2 or 3 will break up too and I wont feel it...."knock on wood" Guy

Come on man do some research before posting questions like that! The kind of response your going to get to a question like that arent going to be what your looking for anyways. You could spend.... $70 for an upper engine gasket kit(head gaskets and intake gaksets) $0 for heads if someone just wants to get rid of them $0 for an intake if someone just wants to get rid of it $2000 for a good set of alluminim / high flowing heads with big valves $3-500 for a good alluminum intake. It all depens on what your going for right now. Do you want it to just run? OR Do you want to buy good parts now and then have an awesome motor. Guy

Yeah I was just laying on the couch with my girlfriend and my roommate when all of a sudden I had a pain in my middle lower back. I thought I was just a muscle cramp from laying on the couch funny but the pain just didnt go away. After rolling around on the floor for about 10 minutes my GF called "Nurses Direct" and they said it could be a kidney stone. So we all jumped in her car and drove to the emergency room. On the way there the pain stopped but my GF told me I had to go anyways just to be sure(at this point I didnt car because the pain was gone). Once there we sat for about 45 minutes before they saw me and then they only took my info. They I sat again for 30 minutes and they took my new address and insurance info. Then I sat again for 15 minutes. I then saw a doctor. After he asked me a few questions I had to pee in a cup so that they could check for kidney stones/red blood cells. After waiting and hour in a little room with my GF the doctor came back and told me I did infact have red blood cells in my urine. Now they wanted to do a catscan to check to see if it passed or was still stuck somewhere. So I waited another 60 minutes before I got a catscan. Then I went and got that done. Then waited again for the results. Turns out that the stone must have passed but there are 2 or 3 more small ones in my right kidney. So they gave me a perscription for Vikadin(sp?) incase one passes again and a strainer to use when I pee for the next few days. If anything else comes out I can take it in to see what its made of. All I know is that it was pretty painfull and Im glad its over for now! My GF is a dieation(sp?) and has been telling me to eat healther for a long time and now I see why. I am deffinently going to change my eating habbits and Im going to drink a lot more water/fluids. The doctor said to make sure I drink a lot of water to keep my kidneys "flushed" out. I already knew that I didnt drink enough but now I know. Not to mention my blood pressure was a little high, 163/92. The doctor said its a little high but it could have been elevated from the situtation I was in. My GF still thinks its too high. Its funny how you think your "bullet proof" until something actually happens to your health. My health habbits will be chaning thats all I know! No more pissing stones for me! Guy

Well first I would change all the fluids, including the gas. Do a complete tune up(cap, rotor, and wires). Then your probably going to have to go through the carbs because the gas that was in them is probably more like varnish now. So they will probably need some new gaskets. If you arent going to keep the original drivetrain then dont bother with any of that. Just rip it out and start with the rust repair! Guy

You can probably find a whole set for cheap on a camaro forum. Try www.lt1tech.com Guy

Sounds like your IAC is sticking. If you shut the car off and start it back up does it idle like normal again or is it still idleing high?

Did you look at the link to the post I gave you? I used that fitting in my radiator hose and then took the drain fitting that they give you and replaced it with a barbed fitting. I then took the hose from the back of the heads and put it on the fitting. Sorry I dont have a picture of it. My car is currently tore down and taped off for paint so I cant take a pic for you. Guy

I bought a T-Fitting from Summit racing online to T in the coolant hose from the back of the heads. That hose is pretty important for the heads so that air doesnt get trapped in them an cause hot spots in the heads. I had the same question a few months back .... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=102657&highlight=fitting I removed the drain fitting and installed a barbed fitting for a hose and then connected that coolant hose from the back of the heads to the barbed fitting. I had to use this reducer anyways because my radiator outlet was some much differnent than the LT1 thermostat housing. Guy

I dont know the whole theory behind about why an inline produces more TQ but it does. Case in point, Jeep 4.0L is "legandary" for its TQ. Maybe Grumpyvette will chime in, Im sure he knows! Guy

Lube shop screwed me up... what action should i take?
80LS1T replied to olie05's topic in Non Tech Board
Grumpyvete, you couldnt have said it better..."you want everything done (YOUR WAY) theres only one sure method, ....LEARN TO DO THE WORK YOURSELF AND BUY THE NECESSARY TOOLS TO DO IT CORRECTLY" Savageskaterkid, I'm just trying to say that you get what you pay for. If you need something serious done to your car(obviously filling a tranny isnt serious) you arent going to take it to a quick lube. You take it to a dealership who services that make and model because they know the most about that car. In most cases the guys that work at a dealership are going to be more knowledgable than the guys that works at a quick lube. Of course there are always exception to the rule... Please dont take my opinions personal, Savageskaterkid. Guy -

I think you should "shut up and take it like a man". Sorry but I know what those lube guys were thinking when they pulled in an old car like yours "oh christ, do you think we'll even be able to get that drain plug out?!" Thats the way I feel when I have to work on old beaters at work(not saying your car is a beater) or if I have to do an oil change on some other make....toyota, suzuki, ford, etc... just because I know were not going to have a filter for it in stock and that we wont be upselling anything because they are going to be taking it to a dealership that services that make. Why didnt you just fill it yourself the first time? You can get a little hand pump with a hose on it to fill up your tranny. Thats what I do because the fill plug is so close to the tranny tunnel. And one more thing to think about...the guys that work at the express lubes usually aren't the best mechanics in the world. There usually is a reason they are just changing oil rather than actually fixing cars. A.)They are still in high school B.)They like changing oil(we have a guy at work like this) C.)They got fired from a place that they use to fix cars at because they screwed to much stuff up and now changing oil is the only thing they can do with out screwing things up D.)Its better than working at McDonalds! There is a reason they can do oil changes for $14.95, they only have to pay their "mechanics" $6.00/hr -
Props to you and Ed! Very nice work. I hope I can post pics of my car like this come spring! Keep up the good work! Guy

I work with 3 guys who race those karts. ONe races shifter karts and 2 race the smaller karts like yours. The shifter car does in the neihborhood of 100mph! One guy is going to let me race this year and a couple races! Should be fun! Guy

I think the SRT's are pretty sweet cars with a lot of potential. It would be a lot sweeter if it was RWD though. I might have actually thought about buying one since Im a Dodge technican(aka parts are cheap!). I would consider the swap for only this reason. I would probably do the 5.7L HEMI swap before I did the SRT-4 swap though(Im a V8 guy!). I am going to be building up a SRT-4 for a guy who doesnt know how to work on his own car. He doesnt know the first thing about wrenching so he's going to pay me to do it for him! I like modding cars when I dont have to pay for the parts to do it! LOL I dont konw what kind of HP & TQ numbers hes shooting for but he wants more than the Stage 3 can offer! I cant wait to see what 350WHP in a Neon is like! Guy

Maybe your misfire is from the leaky injector? Causing a lean condition? Just a though... I agree with z-Rex.... Guy

I was wondering if its possible to change IP addresses? Me and my room mate like to play Texas hold'em online but we cant register for the same tournament because its says that "there is already someone logged on from this IP address". We have a broadband wireless router hooked up to our cable modem. I was trying to find a program that changes IP address but no luck(looking for free programs). I dont know if there are programs out there that can do this or not? Any help would be appreciated! Guy

What do you mean your going to tint the whole windshield? Looks nice with the flares and the G-Nose! Guy

TBI motors arent the best for high HP. Your better off with a MPI(multi port injection) or carb. Guy

80LS1T replied to Mack's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Modern Motor Sports sells a rear coilover kit for $665 with 12 way adjustable struts.... http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=66 I didnt see anything avaliable for the fronts though. Guy -
Oh my LT1 block the top hole is used for the oil pressure switch. Im sure it that switch wasnt there it would leak. But it would be a lot of oil coming out of there. Not sure about the bottom hole? Guy

$3000K as in $3,000,000? or did you just mean $3k? Cause yeah 650HP would deffinetely be doable with $3 Mil! LOL First off are you a carb or EFI guy? If EFI dont bother with with anything other than the LSx motors. Power potential is huge and parts for them are only getting cheaper. If your going with a Gen 1 SBC, get a 2 bolt main and have the block spayed for 4 bolt mains. This is much stronger than a factory 4 bolt main and with the power you want you'll need the extra support. As for which years to look for, I believe there are certain blocks to look for that have higher "nickle" content. You wont really need to worry about the rest of the motor if your going for big numbers because you wont be keeping it stock. So I would just look for a good 350 block to start with. Guy
