  1. After a year and a half long hiatus my Z will be coming back to life this spring....hopefully. First thing in order is finish my dash that i began over 2 years ago... im having trouble deciding between these two units so hopefully you hybridzers can help. heres the first option by SPA Technique http://www.spatechnique.com/product_pages/dashsystem.asp heres the second option by AIM Sports http://www.aimsports.com/products/mxl-pista/index.html The SPA comes out to around 1400 with sensors and the AIM would be about 2000 with sensors all ready to go. The SPA has no downloadable datalogging but is much more user friendly it comes with a harness and would greatly facilitate integration. The AIM has onboard memory datalogging, and is configurable 7 ways from sunday. its also expandable and could feasibly be used on future projects (potentially a race car) for years to come. so there it is. what would you guys do? photos of the dash are here http://www.autosportfab.com/gallery/240z/index.html
  2. hahah! i blew up a 36mm socket on my impact in the middle of a tranny job. it cracked in 5 places... out came the grinder and the welder.... its more of a 38mm but it still works! haha the best is when you cant get a broken stud out and you carefully tack and tack and tack till it builds up big enough to put vice grips on it, then it turns right out!
  3. good choice for your welder! i have a miller 135 that i built my Z almost entirely with. total my car has 22lbs of welding wire in it! the miller shouldnt ever let you down!
  4. Ron is correct. i neglected to mention my frame rails are 2x3 .125 wall tube.
  5. Ok, i edited it. its been made aware to me that a coolant pipe that fits tighter is available in pathfinders. time to source one
  6. no responses? i figured you guys would be all over this.
  7. like this? they are yet untested but as long as you can control fore/aft movement they should work just like any other mount.
  8. if you did something to open up both lower corners i think it would help it a little bit. photoshop it first to see how it comes out.
  9. http://www.engineswaptech.com/forums/1/1257/ShowThread.aspx This is copied from Engineswaptech.com the best source ive found for VQ swaps. heres some pictures of the preliminary trial. before you guys say anything about the seatbelt... it was the best way to lift the motor without damaging the composite valvecovers the tranny tunnel needs some sensuous massaging and the cross member needs a cut and paste. then an engine cross member, custom tranny and engine mounts, subframe connectors, custom tranny cross member then exhaust and wiring. more pics for you guys!! it will be a bear to load all of them. The manifolds are still towards the front. The built in oil cooler is out of the question. With some firewall massaging the stock plenum should work. (sans hoodlatch of course) The motor needs to shift to the passengerside about an inch. The transmission tunnel could have been left intact if i felt like drilling out every spot weld that held the stock tranny mount brace in place. Its easier to just cut the tunnel and weld a new piece of sheet metal in for me The water temp sensor should have just BARELY enough room to fit. Shifter location wont be bad at all aswell.
  10. http://www.engineswaptech.com/forums/1/1257/ShowThread.aspx i was just going to post a link to this in a new thread but here you go.
  11. ugh, you guys make me want to go back and finish my degree!
  12. very interesting, i never thought to take into account the pos vs neg pressure. cool stuff!
  13. nice work! i noticed the firewall was pretty flimsy in my Z aswell so i cut two holes in the rear part of the wiper motor tray and stuck two tubes through to two little 2in sq plates that are welded to the firewall. these plates are directly behind the angle braces and at the back in the cabin they are welded to my dash bar. can you still uses the wiper motor with yours? i had to "delete" mine
  14. the ONLY annoying thing about my speedglas is that the helmet in the raised position doesnt "cam over" meaning theres no click to keep the helmet in the raised position like there was on my 20 dollar crapo helmet. this is easily fixed by the adjusters on the side of the helmet though.
  15. my minimal work in header design has taught me to not ignore the pulses created by the valves opening and closing. dont forget theres a pressure wave AND a sound wave. im assuming intakes work similarly but i may be wrong.
  16. http://cgi.ebay.com/HORNELL-SPEEDGLAS-FLEXVIEW-W-9002X-WELDING-HELMET_W0QQitemZ130039926421QQihZ003QQcategoryZ92090QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem my gf and i split the cost of this earlier this year, its an EXCELLENT buy. my eyes used to get tired after a few hours of welding with my non darkening helmet but now with the adjustable shade i can dial it right in based on what im welding. also the flip up (flexview) option is totally worth it. any time your in a tight space or you need to weld grind weld it comes in handy. just dont forget to turn it on. talk about owwies i got it from my local welding shop for 355
  17. yeah i had a similar problem with tokico, the parts they included were the wrong parts and they said i had to talk to my supplier who had to talk to his supplier who had to send him paperwork then he would have tosend it back then they would sendthe parts to my supplier and they would send them to me. EVEN THOUGH THEY SENT THE WRONG PARTS. i was very confused. i dont know how big corporate companies get by treating customers like that...
  18. hope and prey that a hybridzer can help you, thats the only advice i can give...
  19. Recieved they look fantastic !!!
  20. no prob ill let you know
  21. did you get mine aswell?
  22. yes matt sent me his set, they worked flawlessly thanks though
  23. well i talked to raymond, he said they used to be able to do that but they cant anymore and now theres a whole paper trail that has to be utilized because they are restructuring the company.
