  1. Went to Ennis this evening, too many street tires made for a slick evening. Only made 2 passes before a huge drop in tire pressure made me aware of a leak in the drivers side rear drag radial. I picked up a nail/screw at the track of all places....damnit! First pass I spun to a 1.67 60 ft. but still managed a 10.91 at 125.45, last pass was even worse, spin fest, 1.77 60 ft. ran 11.03 at 125. I drove the "Purple Turd" 70 miles each way, no trailer queen here...LOL
  2. IMG_0371.MOVFinally made it to the dyno, made 418rwhp and 397tq thru a power robbing 4L80E. Tuner said the 4L80E eats 30-40 more rwhp than a 4L60E....crap! He said that thru a 6 speed It would be in the neighborhood of 475-490rwhp, makes me want to put a manual in it. Sorry for the crappy phone video my friend made, forgot my good one.
  3. Drove around town last night with temps at 64-68 degree's and it ran between 165 and 180 degree's. I also set the fan speed to low as well.
  4. I will check it out this weekend, may try and put a spring in it for that reason-sucking/collapsing. Thanks everyone!
  5. It's pulling for sure, moves a lot of air on hi speed. The radiator is a Griffin 24x19 aluminum radiator, nothing super fancy, been on the car for years.
  6. I am going to check the thermostat this weekend, it's a first gen sbc 160 thermostat, reason is we used the straight neck billet water outlet in place of the traditional LS style that is mentioned on this site. The lower hose has not collapsed that I know of, the condition of the hose seems ok, maybe I need to install a spring though just for insurance. I do not know if you can control both fan speeds by ecm only, currently I have the hi speed hooked up but will switch it to the low speed and see what happens. We evcuated all the air from the cooling system at my buddies shop, they use a machine for that purpose. What would restricting water flow do to help keep the car cool on the highway, not sure I follow that one, sorry. We are going to redesign the fan shroud as well, the newer cars have flaps that allow air to move thru the radiator and shroud more efficiently.
  7. Well, I moved the large cone filter away from the front of the radiator and also found the the new radiator cap was not sealing, replaced it and drove it around last night. It ran 180-195 on the highway and 165-180 around town. Hopefully fixed the issue. The Taurus fan is wired on high thru the ecm and comes on at 180 and shuts off at 170, I am running a 160 thermostat. I am going to seal around the radiator and core support as I have a gap of around 1" on either side of the radiator that is open and see if that helps force more air thru the radiator.
  8. I am having strange cooling issue and was wondering if anyone else has gone thru this. Driving around town it runs around 180 degrees, on the highway it runs around 190-200 into a head or cross wind. As soon as I drive down the highway with a tail wind the car heats up to 225 and eventually will overheat. Has anyone had similiar issues? I am running a L76/4L80E combo with 4 core Griffin radiator/Ford Taurus fan on high, fan comes on at 180 and shuts off at 170. Was wondering if I have a turbulance issue, trans cooler and cone air filter are out in front of the radiator which can effect airflow but why only with a tail wind. I am looking at blocking all circular vents on the radiator core support and sealing up around the radiator core support to force more air thru the radiator to see if that helps, kind of crazy, never was like this with my old set up. We took it to my buddies shop and made sure all the air in the system was evacuated, installed a new radiator cap (15 lb), not sure what to do next, maybe an air damn deflector or something to drive/guide more air into the radiator area. Thanks for any idea's or comments you might have. Mike
  9. My tuner said that in a 600rwhp car (Corvette) with a 4L60E transmission that broke twice, they swapped in a 4L80E and it only put down 540rwhp. A 60 rwhp loss swapping from a 4L60E to a 4L80E, I about crapped, that is a rediculous power loss. Makes me want to swap in a 4L60E but the idea of breaking the trans has me on the fence. I am going to take it to the track and see if it picks up anything before taking it apart again.
  10. Well that 4L80E is a power robbing SOB!!! Put down a best of 418 to the rear wheels, had some strange vibration issues on the dyno, got to rebalance the drive shaft before it tears something up, not to mention losing power too. Going to have to send the converter back too, it was supposed to flash to 36-3800, only flashes to 3100, that will not work at all.
  11. Replaced bad ecm and got a base tune in her, she goes to the dyno today for her final exam...LOL I took her to the track on a base tune and went 6.91 at 99 just rolling out not stalling her up just off idle. Was kind of dissapointed but she may have a lot left on the table that we will find on the dyno.
  12. John at PSI (Wiring harness maker) says it is not the ECM but adjustments in the ecm/tune that need to be made. He asked for the file/tune be emailed to him for adjustments. Fingers are crossed, hope it works.
  13. LOL, kind of funny how some things happen. Did you have to push it far?
  14. ECM took a dump, what luck, car left me stranded on the street tuning segment.
  15. She is ready for her tune on Sunday and then on the road she will be. If all goes well I will take her to the local track next weekend for some base numbers.
  16. I slightly modified my collectors on my long tubes from the group buy. They know work great with a big 4L80E in my 240Z, it can be done!!!
  17. I run coilovers in the rear (250lb 10" springs) with a 7" rim, 255/60-15 Mickey Thompson drag radials and the combo works great for me. I did slightly roll the fenders though. I am now running a 4L80E transmission, used to run a 700R4 with my old sbc combo. Looking forward to the final tune and getting some track numbers!
  18. Did you call the guy who made these sets, last call he had a few sets left.
  19. Well, transmission will not shift, goes into first, nuetral, reverse and park only. Maybe a tcm issue. I am going to pull the main plug socket and make sure there is no trash in the recepticle/socket on the trans side otherwise I will have to pull the transmission....yuck!
  20. Got it running today, still have some loose ends to clear up. I have video but not sure how to post it...lame I know, I am no techie...LOL
