LSx s30 Longtube group buy thread
Zfan1 replied to 1 tuff z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
My friends and I took a real close look at these headers and do not see why they would not fit an automatic transmission set up. The bell housing is all the same auto or stick, the pan is the only real question and if need be the collector could be slightly re-routed. I have had to this before. -
Fuel Lines (Pros Cons) Push Lock/Hardlines/SS Braided?
Zfan1 replied to EastTnZ's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
The Bosche is better and a little less noisy but costs a whole lot more. I picked up my Bosche pump thru Amazon where I am a member and it set me back 235.00 with Wix regulator, filter, return. Bosche pumps can run around 300-350 retail from local parts houses. The Walbro's are much cheaper, just make sure it is the real deal what ever pump you buy! The cheapo Chinese knock offs are everywhere and some are hard to tell apart. -
I went to a parts house and tried several thermostats and found a Murray cheapo for 4 bucks, best fit of all of them. I think/hope it will work with a little elbow grease!

No pic's? What thermostat did you guys use with the Jegs/CSR thermostat housing? Does it call for the stock unit or after market type?

Fuel Lines (Pros Cons) Push Lock/Hardlines/SS Braided?
Zfan1 replied to EastTnZ's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Just installed a Bosche 044 pump and Wix Corvette style filter, regulator, return unit. I used An fittings (push lock) 10an to the pump and transitioned from 8an to 6an up front. I didn't use any hard lines. -
I am watching the season finale this evening...can't wait. Also Game Of Thrones season 3 just kicked off! Now I just have to take some time to work on the ride...LOL

Yep, I used that upper hose, was perfect. The problem is my L76 lower housing is 1.50 and my radiator is 1.75, that hose is too small, wish it had been that easy!
-
I broke down and purchased the straight neck thermostat housing from Jegs, too much looking around wasting time and getting zero results.

10-4, thanks! That's good to know!

how far foward does your ls sit
Zfan1 replied to ls280z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
2700 lbs. just guessing!!! -
Good idea, now why didn't I think of that...LOL

Ebay, they have plenty of them. My problem is my lower radiator inlet is 1.75" and the LS is 1.50, this is proving to be a pain in the butt. Did your upper hose include the spring to keep it from collapsing, just curious as the one I am using does not.

Jake who? I know a Jake and Jake Jr. they did an LSX Mustang.

Well we got her in this past weekend, cut the ears off like you mentioned. My friend is a wizard with hard lines, used 3/8 brake line and away he went with his bender. We made a temporary mount for the 4L80E and will fab a mount for it this week/weekend. I'll have to pull it one more time to do a little clearancing on the drivers side for the socket/plug, it is too tight for my liking. Will post more pic's soon. Mike

Going from a 240sx to a 240z ls swap
Zfan1 replied to actionjackson's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Not a lot, welded in 6 point cage with door bars, everything welded in solid, no floor pans welded. That really tightens up things. Also custom built rear diff. front mount. Car has seen hundreds of passes on the track and street. My ride has been sbc converted for approx. 30 yrs. -
Going from a 240sx to a 240z ls swap
Zfan1 replied to actionjackson's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
What he said, build a stout r200 or 230, I built my own R200 LSD, pulled it apart added better clutches and shimmed it tight. Added Modern Motorsports stubs and adapters along with 300ZXT cv's. Mine has seen dozens of 9 and 10 second passes with only 2 axles snapped in 7 yrs. -
Well it is official we got it in this weekend! A little messaging but if anyone doubts it, it ain't near as hard as I figured going into the swap. Will post pictures of the purple turd tomorrow. Just need to figure long tube headers out, drive shaft shortened again, radiator lines and harness. Got the fuel system in using a Bosche 044 pump, Wix Corvette regulator, filter and return. Made our own hard lines trans cooler using 3/8 hard brake line and my friend who can bend anything...friends are a good thing...LOL Mike

Coil pack covers , what do you think ?
Zfan1 replied to Domzs's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Damn, looks like a 454..LOL Kind of confused me for a minute! -
I did the swap to discs, 300zx rotors on all four corners and 240sx rear and toyota 4 runners calipers up front. I also swapped to the 280Z master with newish booster. My brakes suck, the back are weak and the front just lock up. Anyone else have that problem? My drums and stocker fronts were way better than this combo!

Transmission options? Currently TH350
Zfan1 replied to rayaapp2's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I am swapping a 4L80E as we speak, I just did a test fit with my L76 motor and 4L80E last night. I was really surprised at how much more room than I thought I did, guess that serves my right as I have not pulled it apart in 4 yrs.
