I had mine up front like yours (bigger filter) but Im guessing it caused some sort of turbulance because my Z would start to run real hot. I moved it into the engine compartment, it's now in front of air vent at radiator support and that cured my over heating issues.
I am running the 300ZXT 3.70 ratio rear end out of the 87 thru 89 models. I love them, just rebuilt another with a set of clutches purchased in a group buy from a member on this board some yrs ago.
Well got it apart and it ate the front planetaries, sprag, bearing and some clutches got glazed. My transmission is getting a rebuild now. I sent my billet 9.5" converter back to Edge for a re-tweek. Going for closer to 3600-3800 now. Supposed to have everything back by Friday....fingers crossed!
Well, got the oppertunity to send my converter back for a reflash as my 4L80E took a dump. The forward sprag and bearing went out in it, should have it back in a few weeks, I found the qweak spot!!! I'm having the converter reflashed from 3100 to 36-3800. Only had to pull the passenger side header to het it out, small victories lol
I found 4 of the 300 zxt axles in Ft.Worth last year for 150 bucks. Took them home and cleaned them up (rebuild) for future spares. They are getting harder to find.
In 8 plus yrs of racing I have broken 2 CV axles at the shaft. I switched to the cv axles because I snapped the old u-joint axles and stub axles all the time. My stub axles are Modern Motorsport billets now, never have snapped one of those....knock on wood!
I have run a built R200 (extra clutches) from old group buy with CV axles and Modern Motorsports billet stub axles for close to 8 yrs now. I have broken/snapped 2 or 3 CV axles but nothing else, knock on wood! I am guessing around 600 rwhp max. My Turd ran low 6's in the 1/8th and 9.70's in the 1/4 mile plus a whole lot of street action too
Thanks for the info, I have given it some thought swapping to a solid axle set up. I have an R200 LSD plus a spare one, never broken one yet, just cv axles. I really like your set up, very nice!
How much interior space did you lose going with a mini tub and solid axle. I have seen a few Z's converted and my 6' 1" 190 lbs frame was cramped to say the least when trying to get in the seat.
No, they had R180's in them. I destroyed an R200 and several half shafts with a 300rwhp 240Z even with an automatic 700R4. I would step it up, but that is just me. A half shaft can also do a lot of damage when snapped, brake lines, lower arms, etc..
