  1. Actually, to go from the 4L60E to the T56 you would have to lengthen the driveshaft. The 4L60E is longer than the T56. "shortbed454 wrote: the length on the 4l60e is 30 3/4 and the length on the t56 is 26.37 both have the same spline count. hope this will help you."
  2. I also bought those same headers for my ZX. I bought for the passenger side, as the driver side needs to be custom to clear the steering box. Passenger side fits perfect.
  3. When I put it in gear, I better have my foot on the brakes. as the car wants to jump forward. I've been told, with a lighter car, the stall will be lower than advertised.
  4. I am, by far, no expert. All I can tell you is my similar setup and how it works. My 79 has a 350 +.030, 9.5 comp., a little more cam, Performer intake with a 1" spacer, Holley double pump, 700R4, R200 w/ 390:1. I have a Bowtie Overdrive 2200 rpm stall converter. I wish I had a higher stall (@2600 to 2800) converter as it still has quite a load when it's in gear. I hope this helps.
  5. Motor mounts for the ZX are simple. Just follow the JTR manual dimensions without the setback plates. Just remember to add the thickness of the setback plates to the spacers thickness. Also use the same Chevy truck motor mounts as in the JTR Manual. Here are my mounts. Driver side mount Passenger side mount Trans mount
  6. That happens by my house all the time. At least once a month I have to navigate around cows in the road. So far I've been luckier than those guys, though... ... no contact.
  7. I fabricated mine. This is in a ZX, but I used the same concept without the setback plates.
  8. My best story was over before it started. I was sitting at a light on M37 and a fully riced out Honduh pulls up next to me. This Honduh had everything, Full groung effects, 18" wheels, gauges galore, a "fartcan" muffler, wild graphics paint, triple tiered wing, and many many stickers. Well, young bozo in the Honduh starts revving, so I can hear his turbo. He keeps revving way too long. I just sat there chuckling. When he finishes, I just give my throttle a quick blip to about 5k. Young Bozo hears the sound of very slightly muffled American muscle and shakes his head "NO". When the light turns green, I'm way down the road before Honduh guy starts to move through the intersection.
  9. Listen to what Rototiller says. The GM mounts dampen transfer of engine vibrations. By design they also do not allow much movement of the engine either.
  10. There used to be a kit car company that sold a fiberglass replica Mini Cooper that used a Hyabusa for power. How's 800lbs. and 190hp. sound? It was called the Ninja Mini. I'm sure they are no longer in business, though.

  12. Several years ago, I was privilaged enough to ride on the maiden voyage for a 38ft cigarette boat that just had two British Lycoming jet turbines from Huey helicopters installed. On Lake Michigan, at 75% throttle, we were doing 110mph in 1' to 1 1/2' seas.

    Z vs ZX ?

I have owned both a S30 and a S130. Of the two, the S30 was faster (both have 355 sbc) but I prefer driving the S130 I presently own because of the creature comforts (I'm getting soft in my advanced age). As for weight, my 79 ZX is only 69 pounds heavier than my 77 Z was. I believe that is due to the 700R4 (ZX) vs the TH350 (Z).
  14. How about getting a friendly competition going.
  15. Here is my ZX. Here's my daily driver, #6 of 6535 made.
  16. My favorite is the McLaren F-1 forum - Some punk kid in a F-16 tried to race me.
  17. I went through the whole disability documentation thing when I got out of the Army many years ago (back injury), so we are aware of what is involved and needed. Chris is now assigned to the Construction Shop on base at Camp LeJeune, or as he calls it "the Marine Engineers retirement home".
  18. Mike, my son's back on leave (Camp LeJeune doctors approved convelescent leave), his Batallion Commander finally sent him back to camp LeJeune, circomventing the medical, basically he just cancelled his temporary duty assignment to Iraq. For over a month his commander was trying to send him back on a medical, that is why no new equipment was issued, but every Sunday, when he got to the Bagdad Hospital with his new orders, this doctor would tear them up and send him back to Al Asad airbase. The problem was he had to wait for a flight back, so usually he didn't get back to Al Asad until Thursday evening. Then his commander would start the whole process over. What really upsets me is that this doctor was going to send my son back to active duty with only 172/20 vision in one eye and limited mobility/use of one arm... instead of the needed surgery to his eye to correct the damage and the proper time to let his broken elbow heal. My son has not been given a medical discharged as, with the proper care and treatment he should regain full or close to full capacities. Besides, his four years of active duty is finished in June.
  19. This Thanksgiving was very special for us. We finally got my son home just a few days before Thanksgiving Day. Because of politics between branches of service, it took six weeks to get Chris out of Iraq after his injuries. His unit Commander (Marines) kept trying to send him home and some Army doctor in Bagdad kept sending him back to his unit. The last time was back to active duty, even though he has no vision in his left eye. We then stepped in and made some calls and got his Batallion Commander to cut orders to send him home, circumventing the hospital in Bagdad. According to the specialists here, he will need surgery on his eye, tissue grafts to repair the scar tissue on his eye. He also spent those six weeks in a combat zone with NO weapon, flack vest, or Kevlar (helmet). If there was a way to get that doctor in Bagdad reprimanded, I would try.
  20. This is from memory. I believe my first edition JTR manual has something on this. If my memory is correct, there was something about running a carb'ed engine with the stock EFI fuel pump. The manual said to use the stock EFI regulator to bring the pressure down to @40psi and then use an aftermarket regulator to bring it down to @6psi from there. The stock regulator has the return line back to the tank.
  21. 2.5L V-6, 200hp
  22. On the first two S30 swaps that I did, I just replaced the gas pedal with one from a mid or late 70's Camaro, and used the camaro cable. The Camaro pedal ends up being in the same location/distance from floor as the stock Datsun pedal. It just required three new holes in the firewall to install. This might be a simple option for you.
  23. For me, I would have to say Greiman, Mikelly, Grumpyvette, 80Lt1, Tim240z, Denny (don't remember his full sight name).
  24. Having had a race prepped 66 Mini Cooper when I was stationed in Germany, they have a warm spot in my heart for them. Cool site. I remember several years ago someone was making a kit car that was a tube chassis, fibreglass replica Cooper that used a Heyabusa for power. They were talking a complete vehicle weighing in at @850 pounds with the power of that big bike motor.
