  1. Hey, I was just wondering if my 74' 260 was an early version or a later version. When I look at the tag on the Driver's door jam it says 5/74. My car came with no bumpers so I have no idea if is an early or late version. Do I need the Vin# to check this?
  2. Quote: "Now on the transmission, of course I want a manual, but from what I have read, only the 1JZ-GTE (singe turbo) came available with a manual. So I need the bell housing from that and it should be a straight swap with an R154 5 speed right? Are there any other manual transmission choices (I think the weaker W58 is one? I need to check if that ones even available in the states...)?" all of the earlier 1jzgte's from the mk3 supras ect. were all twin turbo, not single turbo, and you could get them in a manual trans. The later version, the 1jz vvti was a single turbo, and as far as I know, was never offered with a manual trans from the factory, although a r154 bolts up. Also, I am using 2jz mounts on my 1jz, you can see pics in my thread.
  3. Sorry I haven't posted for a while but I was out of town. My intercooler is a 24x12x4 core that is from Driftmotion.com. I installed some toyota 4 runner brakes with some drilled rotors and stainless lines. I also have a 15/16" master that is going in also. Should be plenty of braking for the rig.
  4. yah, mine is located in the car where the spare tire used to be. You can see pics of it in my build progress thread. Not quite finished, but almost their. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=128263
  5. I am running a summit racing fuel cell with a 0-90ohm sending unit, so it works with autometer gauges. As far as the speedo, I can't give you an answer on that.
  6. I agree, John is awesome and does super nice work!
  7. Hey Tim, Can you post how this works out? I have a R154 that I am going to put in sometime soon, wasn't sure if the factory clutch master cylinder had enough volume to push the R154 slave all the way. I sure hope it works. If not, then I will have to a supra master and custom fit it. I think it should work with the Nissan master. I let you guys know soon.
  8. Did you put the clutch disk in backwards? If you put the disk in backwards, then you won't be able to shift into any gear.
  9. the bellhousing is not hard at all to find. My friend sells them from his shop as do a lot of other shops. They are pricey though. Driftmotion.com
  10. Hey guys, what kind of tires do you recommend for my 74' 260z with 17x7 in front and 17x9 in back. I will eventually lower the car on ground control coilovers. Let me know what you guys think or if you have any pics.
  11. I also have the EZ wiring harness that I am going to use for my 1jz swap. The EZ wiring harness has some circuits on relays, like the (lights ,ect..) but everything else runs through a fusebox, which is all you need for the rest of the wiring. No need for relays on all the other circuits.
  12. a couple more pics. I got the wastegate flange welded on and its mounted, and I built a little bracket for my fuel pressure regulator.
  13. Got the intercooler mounted and ready to make the piping. Here are a few shots. It fits perfectly!
  14. I have not got to the wiring yet, but it will be soon. I am currently setting up the intercooler right now. I will post some pics of it tomarrow. The manifold leaves plenty of room for a downpipe, and it works perfectly for my setup, because it keeps the wastegate at the top and makes it very easy to recirculate it back into the downpipe as I will do. I don't want to ruin the beautiful sound of the 1jz with a vented wastegate.
  15. I did a little test fitting of the new manifold and turbo before I have the wastegate flange welded on. Here are a few pics.I just need to clock the compressor housing down before I have an elbow welded on.
  16. I got my Kirk racing 6 point bolt in cage test fitted, But I think that I am going to weld it in. I fits really tight and is of excellent quality. Here are a couple of pics.
  17. yah, I love the shell sticker and I don't have the heart to get rid of it. It's old school and has some originality. Got to at least smoke a couple of vette's with the shell sticker on!!
  18. Here are a couple more quick pics, the turbo manifold on their will not be the one used for this setup. I just used it to have something to strap the motor to the engine hoist with.
  19. Well, got the 1jz into the car today!! Fitment is great! Here are a couple of quick picks I snapped. I have more later-
  20. fittings have the same thread pitch, but the length is different. Driftmotion makes them a little bit longer to compensate. This clutch hose is meant for a supra, but we have measured and came to the conclusion that it would work perfectly on my swap. It is full braided stainless so the clutch will have a nice feel.
  21. Progress is going pretty good. I should have the engine in the car this week, hopefully if everything goes good. I got a few new goodies for my new turbo. A custom Drewgo turbo manifold fully braced and coated, and a 44mm external wastegate. I just need to have the flange welded on, but I have to wait until the motor is in to deal with clearence issues. I also got a custom made braided steel clutch hose to use a 260z clutch master cylinder to a Toyota R154 slave cylinder, compliments of my friend Aaron at Driftmotion.com. Here are a few pics.
  22. chopping the shifter does shorten the throw . On a rear wheel drive car where the the shifter is integrated into the trans, shortening the the shifter does shorten the throw of the shift lever. I have done it on my R154 trans and it feels 100% better. It is a totally different game when using a shifter that uses cables.
