Yah Gritz, you are right, I am doing exactly what you are talking about, and spending too much time and money doing my bushings, suspension, rear end, ect. when I should be concentrating on getting the thing running and drivable.
Very good job Gritz! Its coming together nice and quick too. Yah, I had the same problem with the tranny crossmember getting in the way of the exhaust, so I made I new one kinda like the one that RUSS made. Mine is not the prettiest thing but it is strong, braced and works. It gives pleny of room for exhaust.
I am still wayyyy over what I thought I would spend on my 1jz swap. Its the bunch of little things to make the swap work, that add up real fast. Always more than you think you will spend and I did all the work myself!!
my 1jz never ran hot when it was in my Mk3 Supra. I don't think it will be a problem in my z either, because their is even more airflow through the front of the car than their was on my z. I think as long as you have an upgraded radiator and a high cfm fan, then you should be fine.
Hey guys, been busy on the project, got the downpipe done, mk4 supra waterpump with billet pulleys and shortened belt with s2000 idler pulley for no AC or PS. I got a new aluminum radiator installed with a 16" spal high CFM fan and all 5 ply silicone radiator hoses. All intercooler piping is done, but it just needs to be welded. Here are some pics.
This is the clutch hose I used for my 1jz/r154 swap. I works perfectly and its cheap for a full length clutch hose.

I am running the aluminum radiator in from the first post on this thread with a 16" spal high cfm electric fan. Quality is nice and fitment is perfect. We will see how it works when the car is done!
Yeah I live in Hidden Hills (Calabasas). I used to go when I had my Supra, but since my Z is not quite finished yet, I haven't been for a while. I wanna see your z in person some time!
I finally got the tranny mount for the r154 done using the stock mount and a custom crossmember similar to RUSSJZ's to make room for the exhaust. The shifter is an inch or two foward, but will be perfect with the soarer shifter housing that I will install.
I haven't posted in a little while due to some other things I had to take care of, but I am back on the project now. Got the 15/16" master cylinder/booster in and the custom braided stainless clutch hose installed onto the toyota r154 slave cylinder. Also picked up some sweet Recaro racing seats. here are a couple pics-
yah,
I am stressing on what rear end and gear ratio that I should run with my 1jz and a r154. I need to decide soon so I can get a driveshaft made ASAP. I have the r180 and their is no way that it will hold up.
