  1. Post pictures, I am over 4 hr. away. California is a big place, they need a 51 state starting north of Sacramento. Anyway, My friend deals only in Z cars. I have seen a lot come and go and have a good idea of what can be salvaged while not wrapping up to much money or time. In the past 260z have not been as desirable when it comes to collecting due to massive numbers being produced by that time. So, as time keeps going by you keep seeing less and less first generation Z cars. So, it could never be as valuable as a first year 240z in the same condition, however, the value keeps going up on these cars. If it is a minimal rust car, YES it is worth saving. Even if you just pass it on to someone else. You can get a spare tire well elsewhere. Or, if your car is in that bad of shape that it needs a spare tire well, swap bodies. Yes, it is a big job but you will have a better car and all 40+ year old cars need a complete going through.
  2. I like where that is going, Gulf Racing colors. What are you doing for fender flairs/color etc. Keep the post coming.
  3. I also have had the same issue, and also do not see a reason/need to limit.
  4. I know the owners of both 432s and there do not seem to even be rumors of any others in the states. They are considered a prize possession in Japan and transferring ownership outside of Japan is frowned upon. Each of the 432 owners also has a Fairlady Z. Sometime they have more than one Fairlady Z or Roadsters. Both buy sell and trade when money is to be made or a nicer one is purchased the lesser one may get sold. They each own other rare Datsuns as well. One of the guys is a dealer of rare and exotic cars and is one of the first to jump on the ultra rare Asian car market and helped move the value northward that has been seen in the last few years. So, as for numbers I have known of 6.
  5. Car looks real nice. Welcome to the site, enjoy the ride.
  6. I have to say the work on the dash looks amazing.
  7. It's a long road we travel to bring our cars back to life but one well worth the journey. Good work. In the long run you will always be glad you started naked.
  8. I have never seen that or heard of that occuring. I did have a 1966 Ford F100 that pulled/wallowed the studs through the hub. I had never seen or heard of that either. I felt something stopped and the wheel fell off with all the studs and lug nuts still attached to the wheel.
  9. It is rough. But a 1970 will be worth fixing. As stated above there are parts available. If you do not have a parts car someone does and may not need the parts you do. If you do not weld consider taking welding classes at a community college. You will need to become skilled before touching the thin metal on a Z. If you have the skills you are ahead of the game. A 70 deserves a bare metal start. Just my opinion. Do not be in a hurry, that car is deep in the hurt box and will take lots of time and money to be brought back to life in whatever form you choose. Make a plan and you will revise the plan as things progress and different parts become available to you. Before it is done you may alter your plan slightly numerous times. However a hurried job will be evident.
  10. Keep up the good work. Looks like the porting job went a little to far.
  11. Very nice work 310Z Thanks Strike.
  12. R_3, I know a guy with the same exterior set up. The green and gold look great together. My friends has tan interior that is stock. Somewhere on here there is a guy from Norway that has the green and gold color scheme with the most amazing tan interior, I think it is all hand stitched leather, gorgeous.
  13. There is an easier way that weighs less. You may want to visit my old thread http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/75085-stereo-install-in-240z/ You do not have to build a false floor and add all that weight when using a ported system. The tire well is the box and you just seal off the top.
  14. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/83577-the-build-of-a-240z-by-310z/ All of the build information on my car can be obtained by clicking above. Vintage 40 year old BBS Magnesium Race wheels 12.5 lbs. 16-8, 0 offset. Rear lips ground to the spot welds in an arcing fashion. Stock front valence and carbon fiber BRE spoiler had to be removed as there was only .030 clearance with the wheel turned. Tires are 225-50-16.
  15. I am not a fan of the me too club when it comes to new fad items especially halo lights on a classic car. I have seen some on various cars and it just does not look right. However, I think that halo lights on a Z might look good. The Z already has unique headlights and this may be a great look. As you mention you are working on rear LED, the car will not look right if you only have LED on the front. Just my opinion.
  16. I like what you are doing, great work.
  17. And I would have a collection that nice and varied if I had the money. So, since I am a working/family man I will stick with my Z and dream.
  18. That is in very rough shape and would cost a fortune to restore as Porsche parts are not priced like Datsun parts. However, A find like that does not come along very often. You are the lucky one. It is your option to take this once in many lifetime chances and enjoy it or just profit from it. If you have the time I would keep it and very meticulously put it back to stock with the Fuches on it of course and possible sell it down the line when everyone wants one again and they are mid six figure cars.
