  1. A car is a hole in the air, suspended there by four rubber doughnuts which you can not eat. Into this hole, you throw money, which you will never see again. Tony's statement is true for the most part. However, S30 Z are starting to see an increase in value to the point that you may be able to come close to breaking even. So, as long as you are near a break even point you could sell it and you are essentially even. But you had the enjoyment of planning, building, and driving and that is worth something. Now, if you were an alcoholic and you had drank $30,000 where would you be. You might of lost your family for which you are still paying most of your pay check to if you could maintain a job. Your liver would be shot and you would soon be moving into that concrete bed you use to call the gutter. Or,commit a crime to go to prison so you can dry up and hopefully get the government to pay for a liver transplant. You will never get your health back. You will never get your family back. If you sell your Z you will never get it back either. Family, Liver, Z all thing you will regret getting rid of. Hummmm, choices, the money for the Z is already spent and you still get something out of it. If you drank the Zs worth of alcohol you may end up as mentioned above. I think I would keep the Z.
  2. Looks good. 275 that's some meat on the asphalt.
  3. If you have a 67 1/2 2L it is rare and valuable. If all the parts are not there they are available, you just have to get connected to the Datsun 311 crowd the parts are expensive. Rarity causes that, supply and demand. Now if you just have a more common 1600 tall window that would be a much less rare car to do an engine swap into and kits are available. Modern motors are sweet in a Roadster. Matter of fact I think the best of show award at the 30 th. annual Mt. Shasta Roadster show came from Arkansas. If you are set on doing a modern motor swap, you could possibly trade a 67 1/2 for a more common 1600 and come out with some cash for a swap. Just my 2 cents worth.
  4. Great job. Keep the up dates coming. I always thought that an L6 with a four valve head would be an amazing set up to have. Maybe I will have one some day.
  5. I would take that as I think you need to stay behind me.
  6. Thanks, Quality will count with this build. Funny you mention Brian Redman. About 2 yr ago my friend who built my car Steve Pettersen and I were in the pits at Lugna Seca. We were buying ice cream bars and this guy walks up behind us and puts his hand on Steves shoulder and says "Hi Stevie, how are you doing". We turn and start talking and then I was introduced to Brian Redman. Great guy.
  7. Great find, congratulations, document your restoration well and don't short cut anything. It will be worth it in the long run.
  8. It is looking good. Keep up the good work.
  9. These are photos of my car the Enkie -92 are 15x7 -0 offset 225-50-15 The photos with the three piece BBS race wheels are 16x8 -0 offset 225-50-16 With the 16 the stock lower front valence came .030 from touching with the wheels turned. So, the the air dam was changed. The front fender lip was rolled. The rears were ground down to the spot welds. Tires have never touched. The suspension is a stock configuration.
  10. That has to be one of the best looking wheels I have seen on a Z. They may be all over on other cars but I think that is the first time I have seen them on a Z.
  11. I am going to agree with Danger Dan, Those panels are covering up something most likely rust in the dog leg between the door and rear fender. The clutch petal shows a lot more wear than 20,000 miles. Parts under the hood have been re-plated and the dash is a cap. The car looks nice and do not get me wrong but it is not being represent for what it really is. I also know of a guy who use to be in California and his last known residence was Colorado. He was cleaning up the external motors from junk yard L series motors and selling them as 3.1. Be careful the story is not adding up to the photos. I have seen great cars sell for $10,000 this year.
  12. I would say your calculations are about right. Wheel design will be the deciding factor in clearance to the brake caliper. 245 tires should have no problem fitting and possible wider. I run 225-50-16 on 16x8 -0 off set BBS wheels stock suspension. Only problem was the front stock lower valence when turning, so in installed a front air dam. Nothing touches the tires.
  13. I have no idea. As I recall the alternator has a tapered shaft. Just take both parts to a machine shop and let them do the measuring.
  14. Reviving an old build thread. I learned something new about my car. I have never had the opportunity to open it up on the top end. Well, while on my way to the Mt. Shasta Datsun Roadster show 2014 I had a very long straight away. I started running through the gears and topped out in 4th at 118 mph and put it into 5 th. I thought it would fall on its face and just maintain speed. It kept accelerating. I hit 125 and it was still pulling. The car completely stable I backed off and coasted back to 70 mph and continued my drive to a Great car show, 30 years and going strong.
  15. I am using the Maxima 125 amp. Two alternator brackets were cut and welded together to make a long enough arm to reach on the larger unit. The pulley is off of an old diesel Maxima (same one you would get a stroker v07 crank shaft out of) and the inner diameter of the mounting hole had to be machined to match the alternator shaft. Then change the end on the wiring. It has no problem powering my car. I have 1900 watts of sound, run 100 watt high beams and an electric fuel pump. You can see some photos in my build thread. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/83577-the-build-of-a-240z-by-310z/?hl=%2Bbuild+%2B240z+%2B310z It took a little machining but it is all Nissan
  16. 45 would be just right. 40 will limit your breathing capacity and you will not be happy with them.
  17. As Leon said, with the Momo adapter, I am pretty sure the flat Momo wheel winds up in the same spot as stock. I have a Momo Champion that looks similar to the one in the pictures above without the red. Position is just right.
  18. Nice looking car. But that photo is going to be your favorite, your two kids in your new Z with that smile. I know who should be driving that Z when he and she is old enough to appreciate it. Priceless.
  19. Pace setter makes two, a smaller diameter and a larger diameter 6-2 header. However the collector is all wrong and would hang about 5 in. below the bottom of the car/on the ground. My collector was customized over approximately 20 in. bringing the two into one, like a tri-y set up to a 2.5 in pipe. I have no complaints about flow on my 3.1 L.
  20. No, I have never seen those before. They look to be three piece. I did not know Enkeis made any three piece wheels. They may have some value to them. However, I am assuming they are 14 or 15 x 5.5 or 6 in. If they are 14 or 15 by 7 or 8 there are your track wheels instead of those obnoxiously heavy, performance robbing, though not bad looking, steel wheels that are better suited on some American iron. By the way the car looks good. I will see if I can send a copy to someone who will know.

    A Z for 40K

Looks like a nice $4500-$6000 car if everything is pristine.Looks like the owner is fishing. Mine looked like that prior to stripping it to bare metal and starting over again.
  22. A 16x7 -0 offset will fit fine. You may have to run a narrower tire than a 225-50-16 such as a 215-50-16 however there are only two performance tires made in that size. So, you may consider a 205-50-16. Another option is 205-45-16.
  23. Great show, thanks for the video, I like the variety. Looks like a big turnout and Datsun is well supported.
