  1. My question would be what is your purpose. Are you trying to get the most rubber on the ground for traction purposes? Or. Are you going for a look? My thought is always performance driven. I want as much performance out of a set up and it needs to look good and with performance good looks almost always comes along. So, if you look at sites such as http://www.tirerack.com/ and compare actual tire sizes and brands you will find out that not all brands measure out to the same size (brand X -225 may not measure the same as brand Z -225) You will also find that a 225-50 will put more rubber on the ground than a 225-45. Just some things to think about. None of them are right or wrong it is an issue of considering all the options and making an informed decision. Some times price of tire in a certain size help make decisions. I run 225-50-16 on a set of vintage factory BBS race wheels 16x8 - 0 off set. Having a set of rare vintage wheels made my decision for me of wheel size I would run.
  2. You do not have car parts on the kitchen counter do you? I would never do that. Ok, so my mother use to yell at me and my wife still does. Nice write up.
  3. The looks of the emblem is an American Racing wheel. I could be mistaken but I think those were made in the early 1980. They were a fake wire looking wheel that you could take the wire section off and place in the dish washer to clean. That was one of the selling points as Tru-Spokes or the holly grail Borrani's are hard to keep up and cost a lot more.
  4. You need too contact Pettersen Motorworks in Chico California 530-895-3606
  5. Great video! Nicely done car and great job promoting our Zs.
  6. Looks good. Like the interior and roll bar. Looks like may be some rust in drivers door to repair. Like the overall look and color combination.
  7. As for the shift lever. I did all the same things to make the MSA short shift unit fit, very stiff and almost popped in and out of gears as you moved it. Went back to a stock lever and cut 1 1/2 in. off the top and re-threaded it. With new bushings it was stiff at first then loosened up just right.
  8. SDgoods, really nice, good work. Quality never goes out of style.

    Holy Crap!

Our wives, they sure keep us from doing what we want. Dating super models collecting car,you know.
  12. I did not realize anyone is getting that kind of mileage out of R-compound tires. I have only had two sets of tire in over 25 yr. on my Z that reached the 12,000 mile mark. And no I do not have an alignment issue. Both of those tires had a 400 tread compound. I prefer a tire in the 180 to 200 for road use. If 10,000 miles can be expected out of modern R- compounds I will look at putting a set on I did not over look the Hankook RS3 it is the only tire listed that does not have an R- compound and it has a 400 tread compound as stated..

    Holy Crap!

You guy are sick. I heard there is no cure either.
  14. Very nice, I have a story but it started out embarrassing and I only have a little old 3.1. I was taking my wife up to Lake Tahoe via the Mt. Rose Hwy. I had just been lopping down the hwy in 5 th. gear then pulled off the hwy to a stop light. A BMW M 3 pulls up next to me. I had a feeling this guy was going to want to race but I knew If I revved the motor to clear the 3.1s throat, it would scare him. Plus I thought I would show off for the wife. The light turned green and we both jumped. My plugs being all fouled, the Z just stumbled. I clutched it, revved and it stumbled again. I repeated the process as the M3 is walking away from me. This time the motor cleared. I started rapidly gaining on him.(There are long distances between some stop lights in rural Nevada) As I shifted into 3 rd. he instantly started looking in his mirrors as he could hear the beautiful sound of the Webers sucking his M3 in.. At approximately 6000 RPM in 3 rd. I flew buy him. The look on his face, Priceless. Just an old Z car.
  15. Well, I would suggest going to Tire Rack and pulling up 225-45-15 or 225-50-15 and see what comes up. With the exception of one tire with a tread ware of 400 all the rest are R-compound tires and have a tread ware of 40-to 140. As I stated. Yes, an R-compound tire has a DOT rating and is legal on the street but they are not usually considered a viable street tire.
  16. There is another issue that needs to be brought up with this issue. That is tire availability. 15 in. race tires are available along with R-compound tires. However, the choices in high performance street tires in 15 in. are next to nothing. There is a bit more availability in 16 in.. Tire availability needs to be one of your main deciding factors in your choice of wheel size.
  17. I think you have answered your own question. Same price and heavy as hell. I would definitely eliminate that set. Performance usually does not come by adding weight, especially un-sprung weight.
  18. Welcome to the site, enjoy the ride. You will want to check out this site. He and his wife are great Z people. http://www.ztherapy.com/

    Muffler Opinions

The L-6 is a loud motor with droan through the rpm range that will drive you crazy as stated prior. When I was in my 20s I ran a straight pipe to a Super Trap. I had to ware ear plugs to drive the car. Now I have a Borla but there is a 18 in. resonator also installed. I also have 90 lb. of extreme dynomat in the car. it sounds great. it is still loud enough to get lost of attention though tolerable.
  20. Thank you, You might be able to find a set on your side of the Atlantic. BBS never imported the wheels into America. They were only supplied to European race teams approximately 35 years ago is what BBS America told me.
  21. Probably not exactly what you were looking for, but I installed fender mirrors on the doors. I wanted to do something different. The painted black is what came on Zs. The chrome mirrors came on other model cars.
