Maybe ZFAN is out there. I installed my Victor Jr. today and noticed two things...(1) I cant screw my datsun sending unit back in without cutting down the ridge on the back of the intake with a dremel. There is no room for an extension as the sending unit will hit the Distributor. I guess I need to trim the little ridge down to fit. Secondly, there is no vaccuum port for the brakes so I suppose I have to put the brake hose directly to rear of carb???? Then plug or filter the other valve cover? I see no other way less putting a T connector from the carb....anyone care to chime in. It looks good by the way. Terry

Kevin, thanks for the info! Well I already have the engine together minus the 400 crank and assembly. I have the 350 crank in there now with full Hydraulic roller retro fit. I am adding the balanced 383 stroker kit in a couple of months using my AFR 190s, Victor Jr. Single Plane, 1 5/8 block huggers and Proform 750 DP, with the XR282HR cam. Thanks again...Im excited about the build and looks like it will yield great DCR and SCR... 11s are definately coming soon to a raceway near me... I hate those damn Camaro SS cars. They talk so much trash. Theres one that runs a 11.7 here but I have something in store for those guys.... Terry

Kevin, the DCR calculations but I think it will be around 8.3 or so according the numbers I input 3.75 Stroke 5.7 ROD 4.040 BORE 4.060 GASKET BORE .040 GASKET THICKNESS 4CC Piston .015 DECK HEIGHT 282/288 CAM 110 Lobe Sep 106 Center Line Chambers 68CC Terry

ZFAN, my current setup yields 7.74 DCR with a .045 quench. Thats with 5cc flat tops. When I go to the 383 it yields 8.38 with the 5cc flat tops and 8.14 with 7cc. Do you know the cc size of those probes? Just curious.... My deck hieght is .005 since I had it decked. Terry

Mike I do stall it but it will only reach about 1900 RPMS before the tires spin...I have a 2800 stall. I hope that a 3500 stall will yield me about a 2500 stall at the line... Terry -

Hey guys, yeah Im gonna go with the Single Plane and 3500 stall before I slip in the 400 crank. The 275 Nittos calls for a minimum of an 8 inch rim. I have 4 or 5 inch back space and a 3/8th spacer. No probs with fit but is about 3/8s inch away from strut tube. It has never hit though. Be careful how your exhaust runs thru to the rear and dont get the pipes too close to the tires or you will hit them when making turns on uneven roads. I may have some pics on my site, I cant remember. Nittos are good on the street and last pretty long as long as you dont burn on em too much. I love em. But again mine are 275s so there is much traction, especially at the track. 11s are coming but I just want to track all the add ons with the 350 before I jump to the 383. I already have the roller retrofit rockers, lifters and cam. What happens when you retard the cam on the crank gear? More power? I think the 3500 stall should help in addition to the Single Plane. Ill have the Single Plane for sure by next months run. Then the 3500 stall. Afetr that in with the 400 crank and forged pistons..... Terry -

V8 280, I dont have coil overs, just heavy duty springs and Illuminas. I run an 8 inch Weld DragLite in the rear with a 3/8th spacer. My tires are Nittos 275 50 15s. They hook great, no tire spin even with the torqy 270 cam before. Nittos are great tires and last alot longer than Drag Radials. You could get by with 235 or 245s without out a spacer I suspect or maybe a 1/4 inch spacer, I have a 4 inch back space so that depends on if you need a spacer or not too. You should also put the longer studs in the rear to accomodate the spacers. You dont have to take out the stub axle to put them in, just drill a hole in the dust plate big enough to pass the stud thru and use a lug to pull it thru, unless ofcoarse you have already done the disk upgrade to the rear, it makes it easier... A lesson learned from ZFAN, invest in some tires before going to the track. His car should run high tens as is but was limited last night because of street tires...i.e. other than Nittos, Drag radials, Micky T ETs etc... You are gonna have a blast! Just wait till all the people swarm your car at the track. Im becoming pretty popular out there! Now if I can just stay married... -

Mike I m glad your ok. yeah we all get a little frustrated with trying to go faster. Speaking of that it was a let down for me too. Well heres the deal...I got a lesson on HP vs Torque. My best time was 12.49 with the 270HR at 110.7. I ran a best of 12.47 at 112 tonight. My 60 foot times dropped from 1.85 to 1.95. I lost to a built Mustang 12.43 at 109 MPH to my 12.47 at 112. It was hard to lose that one because I was running him down. His launch was just too much for me to catch him..maybe two feet at the finish. Anyway it was fun. I may have been jetted too big on the primaries. 74/80. Ill try 72/80 next time. Its time to slip in the 400 crank and probes..... Heres the deal on the GTech....I ran a 12.47 at 112 and the GTech said 13.4 at 107!!!! Theres definately some discrepancy there. I would just use the GTEch for tuning purposes etc.... Lastly, I wonder if I go to the Single Plane....will I knock off a couple of tenths? I am going to order a 3500 stall as well. I know that I need to get the engine sped up quicker to take advantage of the bigger cam. Still all in all I am happy with the 12.4/5s at 111/112 for now. I want to document all the changes that are happening to pave the road for others as Mike has done for me and still doing. I keep getting girls wanting to ride the quarter with me...lol. I gave another a ride today and knocked of 2.5 tenths...she was skinnier!! Ill tell you one thing, this Z is a major attention getter and all the kids love it..... We had a cool night and no rain...perfect for racing. Hey I have a small clip of one of my races. Can anyone host it? Terry -
ZFAN, I got the engine put back together with the XR282 vice the XR270. It is a most definate noticeable power increase. Much stronger pull after the launch and seems to keep pulling. According to the GTech with the 270 cam I averaged 4.7 secs 0-60s (which was way off---it was faster Im sure). Anyway I tuned this cam tonight and went 4.7 as well....thats great news for my quest of 11s.... I now shift at 6000RPMs vice 5320. Also I tried the 74/84s on the proform and she didnt like it on launch. I jetted down the back to 80s 74/80s and she really came alive. Im running a 4.5 Power Valve as well. Ill run it that way the first run and then either go 72/82 or 72/80 to make sure I am dialed in properly. It feels like 11s are in the picture...I predict 12 flat or 11.9s...cant wait.....let us know how your quest for 10s turns out..... Terry

Assembly of intake gasket question
Corzette replied to Corzette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Thanks guys for the input. I hope the weather cooperates as well. I want to run it before changing to a single plane intake. ZFAN can you tell me what part number on the Victor Jr. you have? Also did you have it match ported to the FelPro 1256? Just curious....thanks in advance... Terry -
Is it wise to put sealer on the entire bottom side of the intake gaskets for proper seal or just around the water jackets? Going for 11s this Friday... By the way talking about extra weight and ETs. Iwent 12.49 at 110.7 with just me before and then with a passenger weighing about 160 I went 12.81 at 108!!!! It does make a difference...thats about 55 pounds per tenth...Im dropping my front fender and right seat on Friday to save around 60 pounds. After i change my 205s up front to the 4 inch drag tires and rims I will prob save another 20 or 25...The cam has been changed from the 270 to the 282 per AFRs suggestions...Wish me luck...11.99 or bust! Then the 400 crank goes in next with a single plane and forged probe flat top pistons.... Terry
-
Thanks Mike....yeah 110 consistant runs all night....so I wonder what the 282 will yield....I know it feels stronger by the seat of the pants....Talk to ya soon....Acoording to my GTech it was off by 3MPH as well. I remember testing the 282 and it showed 111 MPH as opposed to the 270 at 107. But the track said 110.7 on the 270 so I figure around 114 or so maybe for the 282?? Maybe 11s somewhere...I hope so. 383 in the coming months....lead the way Mike!...out....I need to get to Ennis sometime after my build and meet ya.....take care. Terry
-
Mike what is your 60 foot? Mine was 1.86 best so far. I need to get a 3500 stall.......
-
Damn Mike thats awesome. Hey get the CVs and forget about it. It was an easy swap. Well I got the engine torn down today and ready to put the 282 back in. I will post the new times on Saturday morning. Do you think I can hit high 11s with the cam change? Its only 4 tenths away from 11 now. Everyone was freakin on my car. I ordered some cutouts as well so I can run open exhaust to increase HP a bit. Well Mike Im following your trail. The next project is ordering the 383 stroker kit. I think I will keep my 282 because I dont want to change my springs on my heads. I was thinking I may be a little lean so I will try stepping up to 74/84 on the next runs after my initial with the 282. Also big question....are the dial a jets really worth the install? Has anyone dealt with these for performance? There is suppose to be a Viper coming to the track Friday so I hope I can line up with him. He is running 12.2s I hear. It should be a good race...wish me luck.....Still undefeated so far....i also run 1 gallon of Xylene to 9 gallons of 92 octane when I race.....seems to like it. Terry
-
Hey Mike! Good to hear. Well the cam is going back in before next month. With the 270HR I managed these numbers..thru the mufflers. 60" 1.86 1/8th 7.99 87MPH 1/4 12.4 at 110.89 No probs in hooking at all.... I am gonna get the stroker kit soon...I found one that has the damper and flex plate together and balanced for $1000. I will probably wait to put the 282 back in then but knowing me Ill do it before that. What jets are u running in the primary and secondaries? Have you broke anything yet? How much time would I gain by running open headers? Are u running 1 3/4s? or 5/8s? P.S. I also noticed this cam doesnt like any initial advance timing. The more I advance it the slower it ran. The more I retarded it the faster...Is yours like that? Terry

Roger that, thanks Scotty....

1ST SLIPS on the site but I posted ...hope you can see them... Terry

Scotty, I am going off the dyno test results from Comp CAms on the 270 vs the 282HR. It says on thier engine the 270 made 352HP and the 282 made 402. With that said shouldnt I run faster by swapping the old 282 back in? Any thought? I will give up only 20 in torque but pick up 50HP according to the dyno results chart. What should I do? Terry
