  1. I know this is probably a long shot, and some will say just find a Fairlady ZX and get the parts you want off of it, but I have always liked the smoother look of the Japanese/Euro/Aussie bumpers on the 79-81 280zx, and I was just putting it out there if anyone knows of a source or a parts car to cannabilize. I had thought about using the MSA fibreglass airdam and rear valance and just cutting off the lower portion, but I still don't think I would be happy with the look. I am originaly from Australia, and have lots of relatives in the Melbourne area. Anyone from down under want to ship a set to me? Oh well, one can dream! Aaron
  2. Well I have the motor/trans out of my car again. I had all the front suspension pieces powder coated and ready to go back in. I noticed a few spots of rust where the bolts for the crossmember goes through, so I started to remove the paint. It seems that the rust just keeps going for a while under the paint. The more I remove, the more I find, but it does end before the trans tunnel area and is not under the undercoat. This rust is really light, I can remove it with some light sanding. It is definitely surface rust as this was a SoCal car all its life with 60k miles until I got it. The car is garaged and probably won't ever be driven in the rain again. I guess my question is should this concern me? I will sand off and repaint as much as I can see. Is POR overkill for this? I definitely have a case of the "while I'm at its", as this project just keeps getting bigger. Thanks all Aaron
  3. From what I can tell, they seem to be high quality pistons. Haven't had any issues, yet. Aaron
  4. I went through Summit, but I bought Ross pistons. You can order them through Summit, pay Summit, then call Ross and tell them the specs you want along with the Summit P.O. #. Ross has a few L series piston specs on file, including turbo pistons. Also, you'll want to tell them that the price you paid included rings, clips and pins. I got my turbo pistons with rings, pins, and clips for $463.00 to my door! I had to have my connecting rods modified to accept floating pins, but it really wasn't that big of a deal. If you are looking for 8.5:1 compression, then you don't really need the turbo dished pistons, just flat tops. Hope that helps. Aaron
  5. The Toyota 2RZ and 3RZ do infact use the same tranny mount configuration. The 5VZ-FE V6 can also be bolted to it, although I don't think it (tranny)would last that long. Ever consider the older 22RE? I think they are the cheapest most plentiful engine on the planet.
  6. 2126, Yes I did take carefull measurements, made mock-ups, and yes I do think they will work, but I have been around aircraft and Z's ( I have owned a Z in some form or fashion for the past 17 years, mostly 240's) long enough to know that even the most carefull planning, measurement, etc., can still cause problems that a person couldn't even imagine. I am only trying to get opinions and others experiences to back up my own numbers, not have someone make up my mind for me. This is a big chunk of change to let go at once, so I am only wanting to be 110% sure. Aaron
  7. I was looking in to getting these for my 280ZXT. The measurements I came up with are; front- 16x8 with 4.5" backspace rear- 16x9 with 5" backspace I have searched to find info on wheels for 280ZXT's but just came up with alot about the 240's. I have heard of this combo fitting on 280ZXT's without modification before. Just wondering if the fronts/rears will rub. I was going to put 225/50's on the front and 245/50's on the rear. I have taken carefull measurements, which tell me they won't, but you never know. My car is all black with black interior so I was going to get them with the charcoal centers. I think this is a great color combo from what I have seen on other Z's. I was looking into getting them from Mid-Atlantic Motorsports for about $410/$425 apiece. Anyone have any experience with these guys, or possibly someone else that sells these that are priced decently? I would really like Watanabe's, but availability and $$$$ are an issue! Thanks in advance, Aaron
  8. I am ready to purchase some new struts for my 280ZXT and was wondering if anyone has an opinion on either of these struts and there differences. The car has been off the road for quite some time, so input is appreciated. My suspension has the typical mods like urethane bushings, swaybars, etc., but the springs and struts are stock. Car is ( will be ) driven on the street 95% of the time with some possible strip/track time later on. I was looking at either the Tokiko HP's or the KYB GR-2's from JDMwerks on Ebay. This place's prices are cheap, are they for real!? Are these knock-offs? Thanks in advance Aaron
  9. At least from my point of view, on aircraft, Honeywell owns Garret/Airesearch, which bought Turbonetics a few years back. We were getting our aircraft turbos overhauled by Turbonetics after sending them to Honeywell. Lots of premature failures. I will not install a Turbonetics "overhauled" turbo on any aircraft or car for that matter again. Just my .02 Aaron
  10. Got any pics of your whole car?
  11. I'll bid on them. I'll let everyone know how they are if I win. Aaron
  12. My 280ZXT did the same thing. Use dielectric grease on the connectors or Dow Corning DC-4.( available at aircraft supply places). Hey Alex, do you have a phone number you can be reached at? I had a few questions about your standalone and other parts. Aaron
  13. Z-Gad, got any specs or prints for those hydro lifter adapters? I was thinking about doing adapters also as I have 2 extra P90a heads. I was thinking it would be just like a giant heli-coil, so to speak. Maybe you could produce and sell them....? (hint, hint) Aaron
  14. Never actually counted the splines on the GM T5, just going off what the driveline shop told me. Sorry for the mis-info. Aaron
  15. You could take the 82-83 ZX 5-speed and put the Maxima diesel first gear in it which is a 3.36 first ratio. It goes right in. really livens up first gear, and you have the good fifth ratio for the freeway. Aaron
  16. My driveshaft shop made me an entire new unit with two 1310 solid joints. They took a non WC slip yoke from a GM T5 and machined it down to fit the Nissan T5 tailshaft housing. I used the larger rear flange on the 300ZX LSD, also. All off the shelf stuff, besides the machine work. It's not aluminum, but I think its probably better than the stock Nissan unit, and I can change the joints cheaply and easily. It only cost me about $400 all told for a complete custom shaft that bolts right in. If memory serves me right, I think the 300ZX T5 has the same slip yoke size as the 280ZXT trans. Aaron
  17. Anyone have the Denso part numbers for the 2nd Gen RX7 injectors, both Turbo and non-turbo? Aaron
  18. I have been trying to find someone who will sell just a 1.5" flapper for an internal W/G, but the closest I can find is from Forced Performance which is only 34mm. I have been reading some of the older posts tryng to find info but came up with only a few mentions of a Turbonetics housing with the 1.5" flapper. Turbonetics was no help, either. I don't need the housing, just the flapper! Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Aaron
  19. Ross p/n through Summit was #35-32 (forged dish). If you want the best deal, do what I did and only call Ross to tell them what you want. They might want a sample piston. Tell them the price you paid to Summit incl. rings and pins. Don't let them jack up the price. Doing it this way I got pistons, rings, and pins for $463. Aaron
  20. If you use 100LL avgas, mix it 50/50 with super or regular unleaded. If you use it straight for extended periods of time in a cars fuel system, it will eat seals, rubber parts, and noncoated fuel lines. Also, eventually you will foul your plugs. Just my .02 Aaron
  21. Was the car you removed the engine from an auto? If so, you may have left the spacer on the back of the crank. Don't ask me how I know this! Aaron
  22. I have a 57 trim E wheel with a .63 a/r stage V in my car ( 280zxt). I tried both the .60 a/r comp housing and the .50 comp housing. The only real diff I noticed between the two ( at least on my car) was that the .50 housing started to turn into a restriction on the top end (18 psi) as compared to the .60. This is from my "seat of the pants" dyno! The .50 housing doesn't require a spacer on the exhaust flange, either. I like the .60 better. Either way, it is a fantastic turbo IMO. My $.02 Aaron
