  1. Forgot to mention, I already have the TPS from a 60mm TB. I'd rather save the money whenever I can, do people normally get it?
  2. I'm about to purchase the MegaSquirt 2 kit & I would like to make sure I'm getting everything I need. I really don't want to have to order more than once. Car is going on to a 280zx N/A '80, but it uses an N/A version of the '81zxt ECCS (Crank pulley mounted crank angle sensor). I'll be ordering the unassembled MS2 kit from DIYAutoTune & I'll get the IAT & MAP sensor from the local parts store. For the idle control, I think I read somewhere that I can make use of the AAC valve. For the relays, I figure I can just do those myself as well as a small fuse block. I'm going to try make use of the current wire harness, unless you guys think it's better to make one myself or order the one from DIYAutoTune. Please let me know if I'm missing something. And also, is the IAT required? Thanks, Scott.
  3. I hate dealing with junkyards. I try take a few extra things to justify how much they rip me off. I went to get a head off a S130 one time & they wanted to charge me $450nzd for it if they pulled it off. So I went ahead and started pulling it off myself and took the intake & injectors, went up to pay and it was a different guy, so I said "some other guy said I could get all this for $150" Think I'm gonna pay $450 for a damn head that is in unknown (likely needing work) condition? Yeah right.
  4. "It's why I've eyed these for some time. I want the smallest primary body, with the largest secondary possible." Wanna buy one? I have two of the 40/25 ones, one from P65 manifold and one from regular L28 manifold.
  5. ozconnection, Could you get a picture of this TB & the TB mouth? interested if it's similar/the same as mine.
  6. JDM for the win eh. All these other goodies make up for our lack of L28 turbos... almost.
  7. The manifold mouth matches fairly closely, so it could be smaller than yours. I measured it properly and it's definitely 35mm on the top butterfly.
  8. Here we go! So there may in fact be another twin version, because I went and checked my TB on the car at the moment. It is two similar 'medium' sized butterflies, and although the TB was on the car making it difficult to measure, I could swear it was 35mm & 32mm. The 35mm looked smaller than the 40mm butterfly on the 40/25 I have. Is it possible your NAPS TB is a turbo TB?
  9. I know what you're going through all too well. The last few months especially, my zx has started a chain reaction of cataclysmic f*** ups. I don't have the guts to sell it even though it pisses me off to no end, so I have to try dealing with it, usually I'll just leave the car alone for a few days and clean up some parts or something instead, but I do have a few holes in the garage walls from when things go really bad. Usually it's the time to re-do/fix up whatever went wrong that pisses me off, so maybe call some friends around to help make the job easier.
  10. I'd like to see how to get a good seal on the oil pan too. While I don't have a bad leaking problem, I do get a couple drips occasionally. I make my oil pan gaskets out of cork gasket sheets, I've used it twice on my Z and once for my old mans Fiat. The material is probably fine, but maybe 7lbs of torque is just not enough. It sure doesn't feel like much. Also, I was considering using a thinner gasket (I think I used 1.5mm previously), and then possibly even stronger bolts so I could safely torque them up a fair bit.
  11. I had all of this info measured up & saved on my comp, but of course Murphy & his Law bitch slapped me hard - I lost everything in a hard drive crash. If I can be bothered getting out into the garage today, I'll take it off and measure it up to see if I have a different one or just the same. Now can someone tell me why I can't edit any of my posts? The option to edit seems to disappear shortly after I've posted...
  12. Alrighty, L28E 50mm Single butterfly TB: Butterfly area = 1963.5mm2 60mm Single butterfly TB: Butterfly area = 2827.4mm2 65mm Single butterfly TB: Butterfly area = 3318.3mm2 And the manifold & port sizes.. if it matters. L28 manifold runner size: 30mm * 6 Total area = 4241.1mm2 L28 head intake port size: 34mm * 6 Total area = 5447.5mm2
  13. I was wrong. So I have three or four different throttle bodies.. Here's the two twin TB's details. L20A Twin Butterfly: First butterfly = 25mm, Second = 40-41mm First butterfly opens to about 80% @ 1/2 throttle, then second butterfly opens from closed to fully open during 2nd half of throttle. My guess (probably wrong) is that the huge increase in flow area after half throttle is to make up for the long runner manifold - low end torque rather than top like the L28 manifold. First butterfly area = 490.9mm2 Second butterfly area = 1256.6mm2 Total area = 1747mm2 L28 NAPS Z Twin Butterfly: (From memory, It's in the car atm.) First butterfly = 32mm, Second = 35mm First butterfly area = 804.2mm2 Second butterfly area = 962.1 mm2 Total area = 1766.3mm2 And the P65 intake runners diamater is 27mm (572.5mm2) each. The Y70 head is either 29-30mm2. I'll take a look later. If the normal L28 TB butterfly's are 50mm, then it's 1963.5mm2.
  14. Mine off a L20 was a 'P65' & 28mm runners, which were suited to the Y70 head (30mm ports) whereas a normal L28 intake is about 30mm with 32mm ports on the head. You could port the runners to match a L28 head & be equal to a normal L28 intake I think mine was a single throttle. You may want to swap the TB out for a single plate. I have a twin butterfly on my L28 and had measured all my throttle bodies & my measurements of the twin butterfly weren't very impressive. IIRC the first butterfly is slightly smaller by about 1-2mm diameter. I'll get the total area measurement comparasins in a little bit.
  15. Voted. Please beat that abomination of a car ahead of you.. Pacer? I hadn't even heard of it before - I had to look it up on wiki. "In The Ultimate Classic Car Book[/url] motoring expert, TV presenter and 2004 Motoring Journalist of the Year writes: "Who will ever forget the...AMC Pacer?...truly awful...painted in violent hues, laden with safety devices and strangled by emission pipery." The car also appears in several humorously-written opinion-based books of "worst cars", including: The World’s Worst Cars. The Worst Cars Ever Sold. Lemon!. Automotive Atrocities! The Cars We Love to Hate, whose cover the Pacer graces. Crap Cars. The author, a BBC Top Gear scriptwriter and Evo magazine journalist, rates the Pacer the third worst car out of 50. "
  16. I can't either. What's the reason to using an auto bellhousing?
  17. "If you look hard enough in the stock wiring looms you will find wires twisted around wires and black taped together. The STOCK power wire off the back of the alternator was like this! Gotta love the old imports!" Yeah, there were a couple stock twisted together wires I have found on my '80zx which I found while freshening up the engine bay wiring with new wire tape & conduit.
  18. The power fender mirrors I have don't really get in the way much at all, but I wouldn't bother to take them off anyway cause they're a pain in the ass to get on/off.
  19. I bought an S130 Fairlady Z with the L20A. I was told it was a 280zx, as it looks almost exactly the same. The PO sanded off the plate which displays the displacement and whatnot. I never realized it was a 2 liter till taking a closer look at the block ID. The PO had an obsession with fiberglass, every bit of rust hole or dent was glassed up. I took a look under the car to see if it was all good, and it looked in pretty good shape. Later on when I was removing the gearbox, I went to put some stands under the frame rails just for safety. I noticed that the frame rails had been fiberglassed up and painted black. They fell apart very easily - they were f**ked.
  20. "I tend to get impatient and tailgate someone who's driving the speed limit (or god forbid under)" +1 After having an accident in the Z due to not slowing down enough on a corner in the rain, I'm quite cautious driving when it's raining.
  21. I would say the no wires on the dizzy till I realized must be COP. AFM is fine... The only thing I could possibly see is the thing on top of the TB?
  22. "I really dont like how the forum is run with the whole new posts at the bottom new ones at the top. You cant really bring up an older thread and ask a question on it because no one will see it. Partly i think its the sites fault for not making it easy to search for information." Bringing that up is a big no-no! http://www.zcar.com/forums/read/19/2085100
  23. Please post some more video of this thing running!
  24. I'm an exception, I'm always hoping the Aussies kick our asses.
