  1. Ok thanks guys, I actually had the lines reversed and the fuel was going entering the return. Now that I got that that sorted I realized that I was getting no spark. I took the coil out and double checked it and it is in fact not sparking. Anyone have this problem?
  2. Im very close to getting my RB25 to fire for the first time. Im getting it to crank over but it seems like its not getting any fuel into the fuel rail. I may not be priming it right because when I unscrew that bolt on the fuel rail nothing comes out of it, no pressure or fuel. However when I pull the fuel line off where it connects pressurized fuel comes out. Anybody have any insight into this problem? Edit* Ive been going through the forums and really havent found any RB first start guides etc. Im new to the whole first start procedures on a fuel injected engine (my Crx project before this was carbureted) anyone got any advice?
  3. No pictures to post but I got the Z to crank over today! Isnt running yet and Im still sorting things out. However its nice to hear the engine finally make a sound. Very close :]
  4. Im using the McKinney mounts and it was tight. All i did was pry off one of the seats for the original transmission mount on the 280z and it gave me plenty of room to fiddle with the speedo gear. EDIT* These do not exist on the 240z, the mounts are different on the 280z.
  5. If you want it perfect and are willing to spend the extra money, McKinney mounts are the way to go. *Edit if Im not mistaken, isnt Mexicali in California? If so you are gonna have to smog your 1978, food for thought.
  6. Sweet dude, seems like Ive seen this engine bay somewhere, just cant think of where.
  7. Got the Z off jackstands today for the first time since buying it, so about a year. It is extremely close to starting. Undercarriage is pretty tight.
  8. Sweet! I started out with a $100 280z too and am doing an RB swap in it. Mine was in a little better shape though. Good luck with it!
  9. Exhaust System completely installed. Bought an APEXi Power Intake Installed FMIC Completely installed Bought a Greddy oil filter because I didnt like the fitment of the K&N filter, it seemed to cross thread and didnt fit right in my opinion. Hooked up a fuel filter. Optima battery I dont have too much longer to go, just need to hook up some wires and such, should be starting soon. I am waiting for a friend to get back from vacation so he can help me wire it because Im not really sure what to do.
  10. Disregard this post, father posted it and doesnt know how to use the search function. Sorry guys.
  11. I am removing that rubber bellow that connects the MAF & airfilter to the turbo inlet so I can make my current configuration fit and work. I need to remove the recirculating BOV piping to do this, I am going to keep the BOV in the stock position on the crossover pipe. Can you aspirate the stock BOV into the atmosphere? I dont really see why not, just need some guidance though. Thanks.
  12. Id love to put these mirrors on my Z. Anyone know brand and/or where to buy them?
  13. Got some parts. Downpipe, exhaust piping & intercooler kit from McKinney. Put on my muffler and began to mount it. Had to go to work so I dont got everything in. Heres some pictures so far. Not too shabby. Itll look better when its in... Bad picture but thats what it looks like... FMIC piping
  14. Well if your gonna go the ol' trusted Mckinney route: Mount kit: $525 Downpipe: $500 Exhaust piping & muffler: $550 Wiring Harness: $400 provided the importer didn't hack it up Dont forget shipping on everything including the RB, it can get up there. You will run into a lot of little stuff that will nickle and dime ya. It is most likely gonna surpass your six grand prediction, even if everything goes perfectly.
  15. Hey guys, kinda fell off the map for a bit. Havent been around because of some Army duties. But the good news is that the Z has not been forgotten, ditched or anything of that sort. Put in an order for the exhaust piping and downpipe. Ordering the FMIC and related piping pretty quick. Pics and progress soon.
  16. Consider an RB25, its considerally cheaper. Big HP is still possible and Im beginning to notice more and more aftermarket support for it because of its recent popularity. Im nearing the completion of my RB25 280z.
  17. Sweet deal! if thats the actual photo of the engine your getting then it looks to be in great shape.
  18. I am going to get rid of the bellow thing that connects your air filter/MAF to the turbo to pipe an fmic. As you know there is piping that connects from the BOV to the bellow. I am going to remove it all and was wondering if I would need to purchase an aftermarket BOV or can you just have the stock one aspirate into the atmosphere.
  19. I seemed to have misplaced my camera, now I have to resort to using the camera on my phone. Installed a new fuel pump from Summit Racing. Mocked up the exhaust, "I swear officer it came like that!" I got my MAF finally and bought an adapter from Auto Zone so it slips right onto my air filter. Heres the whole set up installed... Radiator bolted up finally, fits snug.
  20. I think Signal has a shop around there. Power House Amuse is a cool shop too.
  21. haha all those Greddy gauges would cost you about $4500. Man that is one sweet looking car though. The exterior is flawless. My favorite Skyline has always been the R32 because it looks like it means business, no frills. Im another jealous person haha.
  22. I bought a rifle scope through amazon for my airsoft rifle from these guys a while back. Hope nothing happens. Thanks for the heads up
  23. My first car was a hunk of crap Honda CRX. The guy I bought it from was planning on turning it into an electric car (lol) and had taken the engine and transmission out. He said you can have it for free if you want to put it back together. So I did and got it running. I was all proud of myself and I took it to get it smogged and it failed. I could have gotten it to pass if I dropped a few hundred dollars into it but I had gotten bitten by the Z bug and decided to sh*t can it.
  24. Not really related to the technical aspects of building an RB-Z but Im just curious. My girl thought it was stupid that I got excited when UPS brought me my new fuel pump. Why dont they understand?! hahaha
  25. Different parts suit different people. An autocross racer or drag racer should think twice about using a radiator like this. Im using this car as a daily driver to get to school and back and a little bit in between. If I sat around and saved up for every custom part that would make my car bulletproof then I would never finish it. I want get to driving this thing soon. When you know your car does not have the best then you drive it accordingly and I plan to do so. Not everyone on this forum has the capital to buy all brand new parts that are fit for racing. Some say I may be taking my chances but it looks to me that it is up to the job. I never reccomended this radiator to anyone I was just showing you guys one of the few off the shelf radiators that actually fit. Ill update on how the radiator is when I get my car running.
