coilover and caster help!
majik16106 replied to majik16106's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
ok got it, thanks mike, my little helper. but still one major question.. how do you figure where to re weld the seats... i cant imagine your just welding and adjusting the coils to be in the same place, cuz that would mean one sits physically higher than the other, more lowered on one side. so. just pick a spot or what? and the lower seat is the only welded on part right? the rest of it just sits on the next piece correct? like up at the top, the plate on top of the spring rides up and down with the spring during adj. right? and the other pieces sit on top. on the caster, think your right, ive got a 225/45/17 on the front, im gonna have to take it out of the front end. was sort of my plan in the first place, but i figured it i could take it out with some caster adj. why not? you just confirmed what i sort of though anyway J, so thanks. -
need help on two basic problems, first is a caster problem in the front, my wheels are sitting too far forward, so i wasa wondering if anyone had used the msa caster kit? and secondly, any pics of the install? i think im going to need that and some body modification to keep em from rubbing the front end. second, i need some serious help with a coil over install. i have the kit, but im not really sure what is supposed to go where, and have no idea how to decide where to re weld the spring seats.. i have the modern kit. basically im an idiot with a pile of parts, i dont wanna pay someone to do this though, i wanna learn, so if someone could help me through it, id appreciate it, i can do this in private too. my e-mail is majik16106@yahoo.com

2003 Cobra Wheels are On
majik16106 replied to speeder's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
well the car looks fantastic, its wierd, about 3 days ago i actually ordered kuhmo ecsta mx's for the rear, 285/40/17s andim gonna use the 712's on the front for now, 225/45/17. save some money while im still dialing the car in, since i have to dial in the suspension and the motor. when is sez.... march? april? anyway, cant wait. Again though, the car looks great, normally not a fan of big five stars on z's, but that looks good. not good to hear about the flares, i never noticed on mine but i never installed them, maybe ill just use the zgs and make them a little bigger. -

Rick?! hey man, long time no see, although i havnt really been posting so maybe you have every day and i just missed it, that looks phenomenal, you must be trying to get me to steal the car, you said you had trouble fitting the 9's with the 285 in the rear? you must have a good bit of inside clearance then cuz a 10inch with a 5inch back space fits under a zg and the zg is smaller than that msa.. i know, right now im fooling with both to decide what makes the z look better, may have to take a vote... hmm. Anyway, been awhile but how is the foot? everything heal right? anyway, cant wait till the next sez, my gf is a photographer, im gonna have to get pics of our cars together... see ya man. Paul -
Hey, i posted about this a week or two ago. Anyway, Ive considered the bigger single route, but i dunno, all the really throttle responsive turbo v8s ive seen are all small t3 twin set ups. have u seen that video of the 700hp lingenfelter c5 on the road, it just taps the gas and boom, its haulin. A 366 or possible a 383 would be cool, but starting with a 400 small block, with all that exhaust and displacement to get those turbo's turning quick, a decent s/b 400 with forged insides, a .30 over piston some added chamber cc's to help knock a normal 9ish to 1 c/r down to 8 and a halfish from a good set of heads and if you do the smart thing and fuel inject it, run a mild cam and use a t56 or tko600 or some other overdrive tranny.. id say you get a damn responsive 6500 rpm 23mpg (depending on gearing) that should make just over 600rwhp. a 3.73 rear end... and your in tire smoking heaven. Wouldn't put it in a z though.. like i said, been planning something, a follow up to the z car when she'd done.. When I start my turbo build up I'll start a thread if anyone would like. LOTS OF PICTURES...

Need some tech help on turbo sb
majik16106 replied to majik16106's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I mean im knowlegeable on how to build engines, i know the theory, im lacking the experience. But as einstein said , " a real genious is a person who knows what they do not know.." and why i may not be a genious, i know a lot is said for experience i want all the help i can get, dont wanna be 6g's into an engine and find out somethings wrong, something i could have avoided if i had taken 5 min to post on this site. Mike.. i will definatly get with you, id love to talk to this guy. I can fabricate manifolds, or know a guy who can, my only concern is the induction at the throttle body/carb.. although im going to use fuel injection. As far as the tranny is concerned, ill probably use the new Temec Tko600, i want that .64 overdrive, with the tires i plan on running and a nice 3.73 rear end, ill be doing 70 mph at 2100rpm. Thats some gas mileage. I think my big concern is using the stroker crankshaft with a small bore (by comparison to what people usually match it to) and then building a head and cam and trying to spin it to 7000, i want this thing to be a good mid-topend car. Im used to supras guys, thats a highway car, 5.0 mustangs and even ls1 powered cars in my opinion cannot pull up top like a supra does. Im not saying this sbc has to pull like that, but i dont want something dying off at 5400rpm. i want it to pull hard to 6800-7000. its become apparent to me though, that a .60 twin set up with a t3/t4 should actually yeild somewhere near 750hp with a good intercooler and tuning. plenty for me. this car is a little heavier than the z, probably around 2850 when all said and done i would guess.. dont mind it though, i like bigger heavier cars, the z was a step in an odd direction for me. -
Hey guys, not for the z project but i figure'd this would b the place to ask since most of ya'll know more about this than other places. Im looking at building a twin turbo small block for a pro-touring car im going to start building after the first of the year. Im new to the whole old school v8 thing, IE im not used to picking out cams and such. I think i may just use the banks set up or build something almost identicle as far as the turbo's are concerned, a big t3, or smaller t3/t4s nice spool, good power. I know i wanna go full forged internals, probably try for like an 8.5 to 1 or little less on the compression side, and i wanted to lenghthen the stroke a little with say a .030 over pistion, make a 366 or something near that. I'll do all the port work and head work, getting some good valve springs and such. anyway.. i was hoping maybe someone could just give me a good basic small block turbo set up, say 600-700 hp, just so i can see about what im working with as far as cam durations, head clearances, springs and valves.. etc. id like a motor that can do 7k if possible.

Finally got em in
majik16106 replied to majik16106's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
working, alot, making my way up the corporate ladder so i can pay for all these damn cars i wanna build, but while im climbing dont have too much time. plus remember, still in school. anyway, no new pics yet, but soon i promise, car is coming a long way, im gonna wait till shes a bit more done, then ill "debut" the beast with some photos and probably a music video... since i dont think anyone would mine seeing a video of a Z whoopin up on some big dog turbo cars, i can tell you though, i went out tuning about two nights ago, and my boss was driving a customer car for compare and contrast reasons... and from a roll... i know for a fact now GTO's dont stand a friggin chance... i mean, it wasnt even close... -
after weeks of waiting, my wheels arrived, Boyd coddington custom made billet aluminum tuned wheel. 17x8 with 4inch back space f, and 17x10 5 inch backspace rear... look at the lip, holy crap! and here is the kicker.. im thinkin of selling them, but we'll see, i paid a good chunk for em, so if you want them make an offer. but who knows, may keep em, anyway, here's the pics... car is almost done...
-
you betcha it does! but i have so many good stories from there... I thought maybe Opaline by Dishwalla, wierd music, would be a good video, could do some cool stuff ...
-
dont you know it? Still need help thinking of songs..
-
haha, its a skeleton, its symbolic of how im going to end up... Actually.. i think im going to die following saying this phrase to several of my friends... " Hey guys.. Watch this.."
-
Got a pic! I'm still working on that video, i finished one, but it didnt turn out the way i wanted, so im going to get some more stuff and re-do it. any particular songs that would be good? im having trouble thinking of good "thank you" songs.

Um, soon as i get an answer ill take this topic off, after reading the reaction to my other thread, seems like a lot of us have some pretty good girls, and mine is going out of town next week for vacation, and another hobby of mine besides spending all my hard earned money on the Z is making some short music videos and such on my computer, well i just bought a ton of stuff she doesnt know about so I can FINALLY yank my digital video onto my computer. SO, i was thinkin since she's gone, it be nice to make a little video for her, and OF course the Z would have to be in it, as well as the rx7. So since the Z is in it, and the rx7, and me and since i figured the reaction was pretty cool, id kind of make it from all of us hybrid Z-ers to all the ladies who support us, and was hoping someone might host it for me?
-
holy crap, where were you a month ago.. i've spent the money i had saved, ok, so hey, NOBODY buy these for a few weeks, and ill take em!
-
thats what i kind of realized yesterday, even though she isn't as quote "into" the car thing as i am, she is looking forward to this car being done as much as i am. For a lot of the same reasons, and a ton of different ones. With you on that too Mike, Everytime Me and Chris (450rwhp mk2 supra) go out, people dont go "hey look at those old cars", they go "hey its Paul and Chris". We're known for it, its not just another supra, or another rx7, thats the other thing about this board, we all put so much of our personality into these cars, some people buy and mod certain cars cuz they are the car to have, supras especially, a lot of the owners of those 6-700rwhp cars couldnt change thier own oil, and they let some dude at a shop tell them everything to put on it. But all the people on here put a lot of themselves in the car.
-
I know that we here are all enthusiasts, and I often wonder what exactly it is that brings someone to a certain car, But more than loving a particular marque or model, we all have to have some real affection for our personal cars running or not. The time, work, money, and overall effort i think shows that we aren't merely crazy, but we really love what we are doing. I had a little reminder yesterday of why exactly it is that I spend so much time and money on my Z. My girlfriend likes cars, she thinks certain ones are cool and certain ones aren't. she couldn't change her own oil, she knows how to change a flat because dad taught her, but her interest in cars stems from something much different than mine.. sort of. Seemingly its purely shallow, they look "pretty". But in the case of my car, its much deeper and she brought to my attention one of the many reasons I could never sell the Z. I was messing with some of my parts in the garage, sitting on the floor, and she sat down in the door sill (my door is off and there is no seats in it now), and she started telling me about how much she was looking forward to me refinishing it, telling me how she loves the feeling of her head sinking into the seat when im having fun, and how any time me and the guys are gonna mess around the interstate, I frantically search for my linkin park CD to play Feint. Then it just hit me, looking at her smiling at me, to most people it may be that "damn car that takes up garage space", and my friends look at as the reason they get half the hang out time they want, but I just realize its all the memories I have with it. Don't know, just something to think about next time any of us get all pissed off that our cars arent finished or that its taking too long or costing more than we wanted. If my car had been running perfectly all the time, I probably never would have thought about it. All the times I get pissed and come inside and shes smiling at me and gives me a massage or something.. So here's to our constantly broken down being rebuilt out of date old Datsuns!

Boyd's makin the wheels for my Z... hehe...
-
I find myself constantly looking out windows of buildings i go into now.. just to make sure nobody is molesting my car.. last night i heard something in the garage, ran downstairs, normally id be thinking.. probably something just fell or a car or a racoon or something because i had left the door open, but not last night i went running down the steps with a beating stick literally thinking " if i catch him with his *$&% in my car im gonna kill him...."
-
bwahah, 1jz in a s30... who ever thought of such a thing?
-
ew... After a while, i kinda thought to myself, and im surprised this hasn't been posted before, I figured Alex would have put something like this up a long time ago...
